Putting Basic Achenbach Driving Techniques Into Practice

Following up on last week's video demonstrating basic Achenbach techniques on our rein machine, today we are putting those driving techniques into practice. Come along with Ranch Ride Carriage Drive as we navigate trails, hills, roads, and traffic on today's training drive.

A bit more fussy than I care for just driving a pair, but I use a similar technique driving a 4 in hand, using my left to hold the reins and the right as support and to reach forward to grab a leader line as needed, no whip as I drive workhorses. 4 Percherons can put a strain on the forearm if they are feeling good and fresh and the lines themselves weigh 20 pounds. Farming and logging calls for compromises I guess, get it done while you stagger along in the snow/ice/mud.
