It was the US that provided weapon for japan at the Battle of Chongqing while thankfully Soviet was willing provided his weapon and also send many of its soldiers on defending Chongqing. While on Nanjing story, i don't have much information about it.
If Japan make the 1st move than most likely China will not hesitate to flatten it as payback with or without the US helping them. China can forgive but not forget.
I first became aware of this tragedy when I read a book several years ago entitled "The Rape of Nanking" by Iris Chang. It was an eye opening and gut wrenching account of what the Japanese did to the people of Nanjing. In her book she said that even the Nazis were appalled at the brutality and torture that the Japanese solders inflicted on the innocent Chinese people. During this time, the Japanese soldiers held competitions to see how many Chinese people that they could kill with a sword and the results were regularly reported in Japanese newspapers. I also read a book about John Rabe "The Good Nazi" and as you said, he saved the lives of hundreds of thousands of Chinese people. When the war ended, the Germans were forced to pay for their war crimes, but the US saw to it that the Japanese received very little punishment in return for the documentation on the inhuman biological experiments that were conducted on the Chinese people. Thank you for such an excellent video and for raising an awareness of what happened to Nanjing in the past and where it is today!
I've heard stories from my colleagues who had visited Japan but they're very dark things that I better not repeat on here. All I'd say is outwardly they do appear polite & civilize.
A sobering video well put together for us to reflect upon that as we bask in the safety of today, that we must always remember the sacrifice of yesterday.
Remember : Japan never apologized for its war crimes. Later most of the designers of these war crimes were awarded top positions in American backed post WW2 government.
The saddest thing is that the survivors of the Nanking Massacre are dying one by one, and there are no witnesses to accuse them of their crimes, they can more leisurely deny their crimes

I did learn many things while reading about Nanjing’s history, but watching this video afterwards, it not only increased my interest, but also brought forward emotional feelings never expected. Yes, as always, your drone footage was amazing. Yes, the Chinese are to be recognized and applauded for their advanced technological and infrastructure seen like nowhere else in the world. The city of Nanjing looks beautiful and alluring. The high point in this video was the history of Nanjing, and how you presented it with pictures, film footage, and an absolute touching factual narration, which brought forth tears. I once referenced Opium Wars info from Wikipedia. Subsequently I noticed the Wikipedia content on the Opium Wars kept changing like almost every week & now it's drastically different from the time I referenced the Wikipedia material which was not too long ago like 2 to 3 years ago. Wikipedia is NOT a trustworthy nor a reliable source of info. Nevertheless whatever Chinese history you read on the Wikipedia (which is very anti-China in my opinion) you can bet that the Chinese suffered much worse under the japanese occupation.

Honestly, I was looking for a quick reference, and as it popped up on the computer screen first, I went with that. Have you heard of the book "Rape of Nanjing" by Iris Change and the museum for Unit 731 in Harbin city of China? Please do some readings on it. Iris Chang killed herself after finishing the book because she got a huge trauma from this cruelty.

Please know that not all of us Americans hate China. Though we have love and respect for Japan today, we are not blind to their atrocities, and we are not indifferent to the horror the Chinese faced. When I saw this video, it made me proud to see China's historic rise from poverty and oppression. Though we do not agree with some of the policies of the Chinese government, we do respect the Chinese people and their achievements. It is regrettable that our leaders are so against China and view them as an enemy rather than as a potential friend with whom we can one day hope to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.

After seeing those many videos of China cities, i conclude that in next 5 years or more China will change into the largest multi-ethnic and multi-culture country in the world when people around the world will want to move in to live and spend their entire lives in there. And one thing need to told is this is the reason in this video shown that Jiangsu - Nanjing help and aid Tibet Adm Region a lot even surpassing other aids from other provinces for poverty eradication and Tibet Adm region development program.

Nanjing has been through hell and back and not a lot of westerns knew the scale of atrocities the Nanking people had experienced under Japanese invasion. The book has some detail accounts from some of the survivors.
Very well sourced documentary especially with period video and images. Beautiful architectural designs of the new and the old add a comforting balance to the city's beauty. This was an important video to remind people of the horrors of war and the triumph of a city of Heroes rising like a Phoenix from painful ashes. The night fly by drone footage is always so captivating. I don't usually comment on your narration but it is a critical part of your excellent videos. Well done!

Nanjing is a beautiful city with a lot of tree-lined streets. Besides the city center, there are many wonderful tourist destinations in Nanjing. There is a picture that epitomizes what happened to the people of Nanjing during the Japanese invasion. A Japanese soldier murdered a baby by skewering the baby on the bayonet of a ruffle gun. Pregnant women were raped and killed. Those Japanese soldiers were demonized. But thanks for showing and doing this beautiful video.

What happened in Nanking should be a sobering warning to all who would embrace excessive nationalist pride. No country or empire is above the world. We must remember all who suffered in World War 2 so we do not repeat these mistakes. We all come from different countries and have different ideas about optimal government, but we must never forget we are one species and we share this Earth. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to be better than those who came before us. We can find common ground and work together for a better future for mankind.
Yes it had one of the darkest chapters in World War 2 history. But then, World War 2 had a very happy ending. Or two in fact. Both in August 1945. 😊😊😊 Best endings in human history!! Great work as always Alex!

Iris Chang, a Chinese American author, had made it a crusade to bring this tragic episode of Japanese atrocities on Chinese civilians to a global audience. When her award-winning book and solo roadtrips of community seminars finally succeeded in rallying a groundswell of interest among ordinary Americans spanning both coasts, she was tragically found with a bullet wound to her head on a quiet deserted road. The official verdict was that Ms Chang took her own life as a result of depression. But the timing of her death and the fact that she finally found traction with her message and crusade to the world renders that verdict a dubious one.

Named in 2017 as the Number 169 International Peaceful City in the World is also the greatest tribute to their people as a whole, those who perished as a result of the so called Second Unknown Holocaust commited by the Imperial Japan, and to those who survived and were destined to the reconstrucion and the passing of legacy to their following generations.

I went to Nanjing in 2018 and visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Presidential Palace and Xuanwu Lake. This is an incredible city that endured and recovered from one of the worst tragedies in the history of mankind.

Have you heard of the book "Rape of Nanjing" by Iris Change and the museum for Unit 731 in Harbin city of China? Please do some readings on it. Iris Chang killed herself after finishing the book because she got a huge trauma from this cruelty.

I talked with at least 5 Americans, no one know this history of China in nanjing , they are allies of Japan, always positive about any news about Japan
Please know that not all of us Americans hate China. Though we have love and respect for Japan today, we are not blind to their atrocities, and we are not indifferent to the horror the Chinese faced. When I saw this video, it made me proud to see China's historic rise from poverty and oppression. Though we do not agree with some of the policies of the Chinese government, we do respect the Chinese people and their achievements. It is regrettable that our leaders are so against China and view them as an enemy rather than as a potential friend with whom we can one day hope to achieve lasting peace and prosperity.

After seeing those many videos of China cities, i conclude that in next 5 years or more China will change into the largest multi-ethnic and multi-culture country in the world when people around the world will want to move in to live and spend their entire lives in there.
And one thing need to told is this is the reason in this video shown that Jiangsu - Nanjing help and aid Tibet Adm Region a lot even surpassing other aids from other provinces for poverty eradication and Tibet Adm region development program.

Nanjing has been through hell and back and not a lot of westerns knew the scale of atrocities the Nanking people had experienced under Japanese invasion. The book has some detail accounts from some of the survivors.
Very well sourced documentary especially with period video and images. Beautiful architectural designs of the new and the old add a comforting balance to the city's beauty. This was an important video to remind people of the horrors of war and the triumph of a city of Heroes rising like a Phoenix from painful ashes. The night fly by drone footage is always so captivating. I don't usually comment on your narration but it is a critical part of your excellent videos. Well done!

Nanjing is a beautiful city with a lot of tree-lined streets. Besides the city center, there are many wonderful tourist destinations in Nanjing.
There is a picture that epitomizes what happened to the people of Nanjing during the Japanese invasion. A Japanese soldier murdered a baby by skewering the baby on the bayonet of a ruffle gun. Pregnant women were raped and killed. Those Japanese soldiers were demonized.

What happened in Nanking should be a sobering warning to all who would embrace excessive nationalist pride. No country or empire is above the world. We must remember all who suffered in World War 2 so we do not repeat these mistakes. We all come from different countries and have different ideas about optimal government, but we must never forget we are one species and we share this Earth. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to be better than those who came before us. We can find common ground and work together for a better future for mankind.

It has been under-publicised because it embarrasses the militarist and hawkish Japanese government while inviting inconvenient questions for Washington. Iris Chang, a Chinese American author, had made it a crusade to bring this tragic episode of Japanese atrocities on Chinese civilians to a global audience. When her award-winning book and solo roadtrips of community seminars finally succeeded in rallying a groundswell of interest among ordinary Americans spanning both coasts, she was tragically found with a bullet wound to her head on a quiet deserted road. The official verdict was that Ms Chang took her own life as a result of depression. But the timing of her death and the fact that she finally found traction with her message and crusade to the world renders that verdict a dubious one.

The most beautiful and touching doc celebrating the historic city of Nanjing. Named in 2017 as the Number 169 International Peaceful City in the World is also the greatest tribute to their people as a whole, those who perished as a result of the so called Second Unknown Holocaust commited by the Imperial Japan, and to those who survived and were destined to the reconstrucion and the passing of legacy to their following generations.

At this difficult time, I could see a video speaking for Nanjing, which made me, a Nanjinger, very moved. It is hard to imagine that while many Chinese are insulting Nanjing, there are still some foreigners willing to tell the greatness of Nanjing. You give Nanjing affirmation at this difficult time, just like the foreign friends who rescued Nanjing people in 1937. I salute your team!
I went to Nanjing in 2018 and visited the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Presidential Palace and Xuanwu Lake. This is an incredible city that endured and recovered from one of the worst tragedies in the history of mankind.

Nowadays some people seem to like using the term "genocide" indiscriminately. If they really want to, the Nanjing massacre fits the bill.
