    Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on UA-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on UA-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on UA-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
    If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
    This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

    At 2.5 years old, my son danced all over and pounded the TV when the "bubbles" swirled around. He's 42 now and still dances to this song!

    Captain Lou, doing his best Dad imitation. Originally written by Robert Hazzard, yes a man. Corded phones, real old school. One of the classic video's of the 80's.

      Good ol’ Captain Lou. Not only Cyndi’s music video dad, and one of the wrestling greats back in the day, but also the first live-action Mario.

    She’s such a great singer! And her style is so quirky and wonderful. I remember going down to South Padre island with my friends circa 1983-84, singing this at the top of our lungs when it came on the radio. We just wanted to have fun!

      She is the only singer I have seen live. It was a tour for the Memphis blues album, which wasn't for me, but she played some of the hits.

    For all those too young to know this. The falling out of the door scene near the end was inspired by the Maxx Brothers. They used that gag in two of their movies, where they packed the room with more people than they should fit, and someone opens the door for everyone to fall out of.
    The song at the very beginning is called "He's So Unusual," for which Cyndi takes her album name.

    This song and She Bops are two really empowering female songs off of this album. Also the scene in her room is a recreation of a Marx Brothers scene on a boat.

      Hmm....I was there in the 80s. She Bop was about a girl masturbating. Is that considered female empowerment now? Weird.

    I always liked this song. I Iiked her voice and singing style. But I didn't really appreciate her fully until I saw her perform live (on TV) with the Boston Pops at the July 4th celebration in 2001. I gained a whole new level of respect and appreciation for her. She's not only a great singer, but also an extremely talented performer who knows how to work a crowd.

    My late wife and I share a birthday with Cyndi, June 22nd. She always loved that fact, liked this song and especially the whoops that Cyndi let out. She would always laugh and let out a whoop of her own. "She's so Unusual" is the perfect name for an album from Cyndi! She was definitely different back in the day. Check out "Money Changes Everything" from the same album. The music video shows off more of her singing talent.

    Cyndi was the singer for the band Blue Angel, and their one album is pretty great too. I hope you like this enough to keep diving into Cyndi’s music. I’m sure everyone will suggest Time After Time next, but I’d recommend All Through The Night, She Bop, and When U Were Mine, which was written by none other than Prince.

    Fun Fact: Cyndi released a different version of this song in 1995 (1994 if you live in the UK) with a pop-reggae twist; newly titled Hey Now (Girls Just Wan to Have Fun) and yes, there is a video as well (Cyndi directed it) - whole new set of "Girls" dancing around. During 1993 while touring for her 4th album Hat Full of Stars she started playing around with the song Girls Just Want to Have fun during the live shows and the final pop reggae version made its way on her Best of CD titled Twelve Deadly Cyns...and then Some. It's an official video release if you dare to meander and take a look.

She is a really good singer songwriter & has had a lot of hits especially in the 80's such as "Time After Time", "All Through The Night", "True Colors", "Change Of Heart", "I Drove All Night" etc.

    Love your channel Shawn. Cyndi flipped the meaning of the song by changing one word in one repeated line, from GIRL to BOY"
    "The phone rings in the middle of the night
    My father says, "My BOY, what do you want from your life?"
    Father dear, you are the fortunate one
    Girls just wanna have fun
    Yeah, girls just wanna have fun."
    So the original was sung from the perspective of a young man out all night chasing sex with woman, then excusing why's he still living at home by telling his parents to blame it on the girls.
    Cyndi also cut out the third verse and made some other changes, but the key one was that of perspective -- that girls should be just as empowered as boys.

    Thanks so much for this reaction, Shawn. Carly Simon sings "You say we'll soar like two birds through the clouds
    But soon you'll cage me on your shelf
    I'll never learn to be just me first by myself" in "That's the Way I Always Heard It Should Be." In the 60s, 70s, and some of the 80s, women were expected to get married. Parents could be cruel, "jokingly" calling their daughters "old maids" if they chose to be single past their early 20s! Unmarried men were just "sowing their oats." I'm really happy and relieved that isn't the societal norm any more, not for a long time! This song lets it all hang out, and made us 80s girls feel free to have fun! ✌️🎶

    • @bearballin
      @bearballin 29 днів тому

      Great comment on Carly's video, but it posted on his reaction to Cyndi Laupers "Girls Just Want to Have Fun". Mistake or were you relating to his comments about the caged bird?

    • @subwaygoddess1
      @subwaygoddess1 29 днів тому

      @bearballin was relating to what Shawn said about Cyndi singing about taking a beautiful girl and hiding her away from the rest of the world. It is a reference to the caged bird he was talking about. It's that so many girls "disappeared" when they got married, they were expected to have kids and fun was basically over for them

    • @ShawnSalvadori
      @ShawnSalvadori  28 днів тому +1

      Thank you! That was definitely another reference that made a connection with what I was think about, but the one that slipped my mind in this reaction were actually the lyrics to the song "White Bird" from 'It's A Beautiful Day' 😁"White bird; In a golden cage; Alone; White bird must fly; Or she will die"
