1960's Omega Seamaster 120 Basic Restoration

- This little beauty needed a few things done in order to ensure its safe whilst being used out in the wild. The gasket was completly perished which meant it wasnt waterproof, and the small crumbs of hardened rubber could dislodge and fall into the movement. I hope you enjoy this basic restoration.

Beautiful work, Elliot! The soft spoken narration and the calm music give this video a very classy feel.
It's gorgeous, deffo my kinda watch
Spent the last few weeks watching every Wristwatch Revival watch repair video and now Elliot's doing retro watch repair videos! 🥳 Love your vids Elliot, keep up the good work.
Simple, yet Wonderful how it turned out! Congrats on refining it, Elliot!
Be careful with old watch dials. The "T Swiss Made T" means that watch has radioactive tritium painted on the hands and dial. Watches from the 50s used radium which is even more dangerous. Even though it no longer glows it will be radioactive for many years to come. I love seeing watch videos - keep up the good work!
Yeah the tritium in these watches are long since dead, radium on the other hand that's still a huge issue and will last centuries
@@ComicalSatania You don't have to worry about the Radium.
The Radium Girls would lick the paint brushes while painting on the radium to get sharp lines.
And nothing happened to them right?
@@DavidMarvin them poor women smh
"T: indicates that tritium was used, as opposed to radium. Tritium, introduced in the early 1960s, had replaced radium (Radium-226) in watches largely by the end of the 1960s, and although still radioactive and potentially hazardous, the beta particles are not able to escape through the watch glass or skin (but it is a health threat if ingested). Both tritium (H-3, half-life of 12.3 years) and promethium (Pm-147, 2.6 year half-life) are radionuclides, but emit much lower levels of radiation than radium (Ra-226). With promethium’s relatively short useful life span, it was replaced by tritium.
With the introduction of tritium came new markings on the dial, with “T” added to watch dials circa 1963. Tritium was used until 1998." Source: alphahands.com
@@aromaticsnail Going to agree with Aromatic here, what he is saying is that Tritium is a much lower hazard than Radium even when new. Since it's half life has certainly passed by now it is a dramatically lower hazard now than even when new. To be safe never ingest or inhale any potentially radioactive particles, but radiation from Tritium that is this old is less than background at this point.
I'm really enjoying 'watching' the content today
This is so awesome! Watches are fascinating, I really like your approach to the restoration. Cant wait to see more.
was literally watching Wristwatch Revival restore yesterday on the same watch! beautiful timepiece
This video was really worth a . . .watch. .
I'm so happy with this content me being a watch collector and viewer of watch restoration channels
like the new format very chill and fun
pro tips: Go watch how watchmakers and watch enthusiasts UA-cam channel record their shots. How to frame? How to place your camera? How to zoom and more importantly How not to zoom. It will help greatly and avoid your viewers some headache while watching your watch related videos.
PS: I love that you are adding this watch content to your channel! it is so cool.
Enjoying the new direction 👍
Great watch have a competent watchmaker clean and lubricate, you'll have a watch forever
Loving the watchmaking vids. This is something I’ve been wanting to get into for years, and hopefully I can learn a thing or two from you and try my hand at it some day!
I used poly watch on my planet ocean crystal to remove the anti reflective coating because it was scratched. It worked a treat. Great video by the way. I have now subscribed.
Looks very good now. Special sort of video jut I like it.
Let’s consider this the first episode of ‘Watch and Learn with Elliot Coll’.
That's a cuality video , I loved the voice over and the filming
Awesome to see you put out some watch content 🙂 I collect funky seikos
This reminds me of his early Gameboy repair videos.
Please do more restoration videos on watches! Love your Nintendo vids and your watch videos! I’m a noob at watchmaking and love watching you! Keep it up!
Ah, finger cots. Reminds of my life working in a Colorectal Surgery Dept...
I love them. I have the no date manual and the no date auto, 1968 and 1966, both on original bracelets. They feel so comfy and have that distant look of a vintage Royal Oak or Nautilus. Lovely pieces.
YESSSS Finally some watch content, have been waiting to see you talk about some of your watches for a while now ;)
Would love to see more watch restoration videos!
Again that was a great watch! Suprising how AMSR these videos are! I always enjoy watching Vince fix watches too!
Keep the watch vids coming.
I've always wanted the Goldeneye watch, the Omega Seamaster 300M. It's just too expensive but maybe I'll get it someday.
Just get straight into it. I like it.
Very good video so exiting to watch.
Nice to see you being true to yourself and branching out, keeping the fire alive, mate. Keep it up.
Beautiful video, very relaxing :)
This was fun and different. Really giving me Wristwatch Revival vibes lol (albeit without the knowledge and proper tools tbf)
This is fantastic. I love this type of content
You have so much cool stuff and you really smart
Love seeing stuff like this! Also a video of your watch collection would be really cool as well!
My favorite way to spend my morning after a night of work. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 Elliot! Take care and keep safe.
Great video.
Mastering the craft already
Nicely done my dude
this is absolutely fantastic, I could watch this absolutely whenever, you are an absolute joy to experience through everything
Cheers ! Well done , I've also added a bit of clock repair and restoration to my fixes. A switch from strictly electronics. Plenty of clocks available to rescue and the mechanisms are challenging , some worth a fix and sell for some pocket change.
this is so calming, lovin it
amazing video man
Nice work, it is enjoyable to see people expanding their knowledge. It was also nice to learn a bit more about watches.
lovely to see your interest in watches is growing, keep on going!
Enjoying the watch content today and loved the style of this one.
Nice man! I don't know why but I feel out over seeing old and new tech taken about and fixed. 🔥🔥🔥
Lovely watch, have been hunting eBay and Craigslist for a vintage Omega myself. Final result is great and not overly cleaned - hate when a vintage watch is too polished up. Shows its age appropriately.
Fantastic! I've watched your main channel for quite a while and just discovered this one - I'm also a younger person (29) whos into vintage watch restoration - mainly Heuer's and Omega's. Wait till you get into servicing the movements, that's good fun 😄 A good set of Bergeon screwdrivers is the single best bit of kit you'll buy
now with watches, i really like this channel amd its content
great narration and the background music was so relaxing.
love the video and the watch elliot. keep it up man! 😊
I love to see the inner mechanisms of watches.
Very nice video with your Bob Ross voice :D Love it! Also like mechanical watches, but let's see if at some point in time you might tackle an early LED watch as well, if you get hold of one. Cheers!
For this being your first jab at this kind of video it turned out really good. Just my two cents, I typically watch (hehe) these videos before going to sleep so I appreciate a softer and formal way of speaking, so I'm not really partial to jokes in the middle of the narration. That being said this video is very much your brand and style of repair, so I get the tone of the video overall.
Man learnt quick 🔥😎👑
Wow brother that looks absolutely amazing!
Such an enjoyable and relaxing video. 10/10. Would love to see another.
I'm also very pleased
haha i love how you invite feedback after you slip in the voice over... Awesome video, looking forward to more of these
Most relaxing video ever mate, I'll keep an eye out for more of those 👀
One day I'll own one. Such a beautiful piece
Haven't laughed so much when you slipped on the rubber johnnies lol just bloody loving the new hobbie. i'm a big watch fan and still wear my Casio Calculator watch which is 41 years old and was a xmas gift from my parents i was 14 years old at the time.
Wow
That's a fine looking watch.
I feel like the next step in the natural progression from electronics repair is to get into watch making. I just jumped in myself.
pinion 😁 loving the new content on you channels mate
When it comes to scraping without damaging, I value wooden toothpicks / cocktail sticks above any other tool. 😁
I'd love to see more vintage watch content! Beautiful seamaster, they're my favorites!
Can't wait to see this restoration!
Really love the watch content!
I saw your comment on wristwatch revival. I knew you were going to pick up this hobby. 😎
You're very courageous Elliot, watch repairing seems terrifying with so many small cogs and screws and such
Dude, so awesome! Keep up the good work!
What a lovely watch! Not to mention you show serious potential as a watchmaker!
Use a scotchbrite pad and apply gentle strokes towards you to give the clasp a polish. Or a Dremel if you dare hehe.
Like it, keep them coming!
Excellent video! Can you do a before and after side by side at the end of the next one? The results you achieved were superb!
this is top satisfying! I loved it! amazing translation of what you used to do with the game boy repairs :3
YESSS WATCHES
You might wanna check the crown gasket as well
Mooooooore watches!!!!
Yes Elliot! Yes! Sublime video! #Satisfying
Yes Elliot, loving a bit of watch content! Bizarrely I am not only a fan of Gameboys but I also love watches so this content is perfect for me. That's a beautiful piece btw
looks like a great amateur restauration. I will be attempting the same on a couple of my own vintage watches. For the future, however, I would highly suggest not putting any vintage diving bezels into the ultrasonic. I think you got lucky that it didnt damage the lettering on the bezel.
Casually picks up a freaking Seamaster... alright boyo.
Two watch themed videos in 1 day!!! Really enjoyed the music and narration, great format. Would love to know more about where you find watches like this.
You must now change this second channel's name to "Coll Watch Repairs".
No excuses.
As a tip do not use metal to scrape the case but rather wooden sticks.
Totally agree - cocktail sticks or matches are a good alternative.
@@Ucofatoffski there are special sticks for watchmaking that are a bit more durable but softer. But cocktail stick are probably a good alternative.
@@Coconut7403 absolutely, but for someone just starting out, they'll do great.
It's when he buys a set of main spring winders and a cannon pinion remover, that we know Elliot is really getting into it!
Was this your first attempt?😲😲 Dude, you're tallented. By the way if you're also into photography and analog camera, it'd also be cool to see analog camera repairs, with electronics or fully-mechanic!
Brilliant job Elliot, big fan of your content and this new direction is the icing on the cake.
I’ve always loved the engineering of watches but find the scene very overwhelming, any suggestions on a first purchase automatic?
I would love do watch restoration but tools needed are expensive
Keep it up!! :D
You should get a Time Grapher to know how healthy and slow your watch is running.
Should've used some Mr. Sheen.
Next items on purchase list, timegrapher, a dial press, a case opener, watch hand removal tool, a digital microscope, various lubricating oils and the list goes on. If this continues, I'll be looking forward to 1 hour long videos. Ps buy cheap non working automatic watches on popular auction sites and post your practice attempts here. Brave going in with an Omega.
Introduction to watch making ..next video, sea master restoration. That escalated quickly!
Thats a really nice watch! Have you seen the gameboy watch? Wasnt sure if you cover a video about it.
I would never put the case in the ultrasonic cleaner with bezel and crystal in place...
