The Edge on guitar for Where the Streets Have no Name was genius. The simplicity of that intro playing just 6 notes with a dotted 8th note delay proves less is best for that mesmerising chime effect. My fav album of all time
This album marked a point in my youth where I was going from grade 6 into 7 in the summer of 1987. It was the end of my childhood and the start of something else entirely.
Saw them at elland rd, leeds on the joshua tree tour 1987. The bands who played were the fall, the mission, the pretenders, then u2. It was a truly memorable gig down near the front of the stage. When we were leaving the stadium we were bumping into madonna fans who'd just watched her at roundhay park on the same night...great memories. I thought i looked great in my u2 joshua tree tour t shirt with the venue and date on the back...
@@mixingmasteringonline I think I saw simple minds play roundhay park in 89 on the street fighting years tour. The bands were martin Stevenson and the daintees, the silencers, all about eve then simple minds...twas a good gig spoilt by my mates chatting up some girls and wanting to explore the fair stalls around the perimeter of the gig so it kinda spoilt it for me...u2 and simple.minds are.not what they once were...halcyon days!!!
Love this record. U2 was always big on atmosphere and they captured an American one on this without sounding contrived or compromised. I read that Edge wanted to write material ready made to be played live and the whole album sounds that way. I think this the last one where they referenced any glint of their past Christian rock roots lyrically.
Dan and Eno really were giving the lads lots of inspiration...after Achtung it kinda of all just became hits...they were a lp band that had hits not a hit bands with lps...they dont even have the fire they once had...Aerosmith kind of went this route too...
Great album. I remember perusing in my local music store and they played it on their stereo system while I shopped. Bought it immediately. Afterward, Bono would unfortunately succumb to brain damage.

I was 14 years 😊
I grew up with this album as a guitarist and always tried to get that delay sound. I was way off! Thank you for this!
Love thar you used One Tree Hill as background in the beginning. I think it's my favorite song ever.
This channel deserves many, many more subscribers! 🧡🧡🧡

Beautiful analog recording and mixing album. Vinyl 30 anniversary is best.

Great memory! I saw Michael Jackson at Roundhay park in 89, can't believe Leeds had two massive names like that on one night.

Masterpiece, so many incredible memories when I think of and hear song from this record
@3:44 Maybe they had access to a prototype, but the Eventide H3000 hadn't yet been released at the time of the recording of The Joshua Tree.

Fascinating. Good bit of footage from the UF & AB sessions here too though. That's OK - there's so few images of the JT recording.
Thank you! It was really difficult to do with so few images.

For some odd reason, I never really like this band but I have to admit that the Edge guitar playing is awesome.
It all went slowly downhill after Joshua tree as Bono’s head began to expand.
Great video!
What are your thoughts on the band Spirit and their album
The 12 Dreams of Dr.Sardonicus?
the déjà-vu tree 😀
😂 nice!
can it be verified that the summit eq was the 200b? just curious...assuming he used this to track?
I presume so but not sure.
"Bullet In The Sky"? C'mon. It's written on the sleeve.
Bono spent time in El Salvador
Don't know why they didn't put Womanfish on this album, thought it was a great song.
"religious significance" is being very, very nice
Still haven’t found, with or without you,in gods country, and bullet have many biblical refrences that went over your ungodly head
