    Heh. If there was one person on earth who wanted more reverb than John, it was Spector. Nice to have that on record, figuratively.

    Nearly _SIXTY_ years later and with all the technological leaps and bounds one could hope for yet still, that "home studio" setup is still absolutely tops. With it's Neumann mics, it's analog, transformer coupled console with it's CADAC modules, Urei 1176 compressors, early 60's Fender electric guitars, basses and amplifiers, Steinway pianos, Ampeg "flip top" bass amp and maple Ludwig drum kit with it's Supraphonic snare. Many if not most professional and even semi-pro and quality private studios you walk into today are still employing the same pieces of kit on a regular basis.
    Btw, imagine a Neumann KM84i - from the private collection of John Lennon and used to record the _Imagine_ album no less - popping up on _Craigslist_ of all places??? It's odd enough for _any_ KM84 to show up on Craigslist these days, never mind one of John Lennon's! Quite strange indeed.

    “Jealous Guy” is timeless. “Imagine” is eternal. “Oh my Love” is gorgeous. “Gimme some Truth” bites and “How do you Sleep?” is vicious. And then to wrap it up “Oh Yoko!” is jaunty

    Great video with lots of new (to me, anyway) information and pictures. 8:15 - the harmonium was actually played by John Barham (Bah-rum), not Barnham. What a difference an 'n' makes..

    Great video. I believe the U47 were the fet (solid state) versions, not the tube version and the km were the 84i, predecessor of the 184. Greetings from Argentina.

    The home studio hadn't been considered before this? What about Joe Meek in the early 60s?

    Spector turned the reverb way up. John Lennon immediately turned it down.

    John once replied to Paul´s congratulations for Imagine: Oh c´mon, it´s only a pop song. And by the way: If John would have taken his words seriously he would have behaved differently to his sons, family and to Paul.

    those are Neumann U67's not U87's

    • @AnodyneHipsterInfluencer
      @AnodyneHipsterInfluencer 2 місяці тому +1

      Of course I'd tend to believe it just because Lennon using a U67 on vocals instead of a U87 just makes sense but it is also likely/logical that they had U87's on hand for recording amps, drums other odds and ends. So my question is, what makes you sure they are 67's instead of 87's? Sourced info? I'm not being snide, I'm legitimately curious. From the photos, I can't see the color of the Neumann badge to indicate one way or the other and I'm fairly certain _both_ the vintage U67 and U87 could be fitted to swivel mounts, so I'm wondering how you can tell or if you were aware from prior information.

      @@AnodyneHipsterInfluencer 87s just have an xlr connector at the bottom while 67s have a Tuchel connector that goes to its external power supply

    NO, the Beach Boys built a home studio years before the making of this album.

    8:54 Incorrect. This would have been a KM84, not the later variant (KM184) that was introduced in the 1990s.

    And Imagine is written ironically about communism. John said he wanted to avoid confrontations, but if he sweetened the pill a little, people would swallow it.

    Um...Pete Townshend was working in proper home studios, and in various incarnations, since 1964. Natural fact. You can find that only all over the internet. Just sayin' that's all.
