  • First look at the 10W AS-5 Laser Engraver used for small projects. This laser is a great little tool for engraving wood, plastic and marking certain types of metal such as stainless steel and aluminum.
    Here is the Link to where I purchased my machine:

    I saw a 10W laser engraver, it's Neje but in the description said that need 10W of power to be on, if you put a lower power this don't will be on, but I don't know if they said the Laser need 10W of the plug or the Laser cannot be modified to work with a 5 o 3 W laser

    You mentioned being able to just set the whole unit on something big to engrave it, but then you showed that small platform jack that is used to get the piece up into the focus of the laser. Does that mean that I couldn't actually just set this whole thing on a large cutting board to engrave a logo or something, because I wouldn't be able to focus the laser at that distance?

    • @thejuanchomich
      @thejuanchomich 6 років тому

      Did this guy ever figure out if this laser auto focus it self? Or manually? Because in the video you have to get it really close to the laser head to actually focus which means it’s the only way to get a clear image??
      By the way when someone comments on my UA-cam channel I ACTUALLY ANSWER!!?? Just take down the video instead because your leaving a lot people more confused then we already were 😂
      I have more questions now then when I started searching the web for info on these laser engraving machines 😂 AND I OWN 2!! Which are so easy to use even my kids use them ..

    • @BradfordGuy
      @BradfordGuy 5 років тому +1

      @@thejuanchomich This machine does not have a self-focus. That is why the scissor-jack. Now, the jack can hold a much wider piece of material. So, yes you can set the laser over the project, rather than having to have a project piece fitting through a door.

    Those are not SERVO motors... a servo is a DC motor usually paired with a quadrature encoder and run with a microprocessor running a PID loop. Those are steppers... they have two coils and are stepped in sequence which is where they get the name.
    Also, with anodized aluminum, you are not engraving it... you are out-gassing the pigment used in the anodize process leaving the bare aluminum showing through. (This is why you don't really feel anything when you run your finger over it.) Engraving would actually remove (vaporize) the metal and leave a pit or groove where the laser was.
    I do like the finish... I have a 35W Epilog that will be going away (Divorce) so I am looking for a temporary low cost replacement. It looks like this unit does a very good job... a bit slower... but nice quality for the price. (The Epilog was $16,400 USD in 2001)

    • @domkelly1972
      @domkelly1972 6 років тому

      it should not be that difficult to make an adapter plate to lower the height of the laser so it sits lower in the frame. you could put the unit on top of the surface to engrave and the whole unit would then have to be raised or lowered to focus which could prove problematic. you could put feet on the four corners that are adjustable the same amount as the jack... it might make the engraveable area a little smaller though.

Have you or will you try cutting profiles in Plastic/Perspex/Acrylic/Foamed Plastic/Plywood/Basla wood etc...10 Watts should cut through upto maybe 5mm material I think. @dsfryda  5 років тому

      Hello MrFreddiew1. I've tried cutting through plastic and Acrylic, but it had problems. It melted the edges and of coarse you really need to vent the fumes because of the horrible smell. Plywood and especially Balsa wood it cuts through like a champ. Like you said, you want to keep the material under 5mm.

    • @dsfryda
      @dsfryda  8 років тому +2

      Operator safety glasses will work just fine, that is all I use. If you are engraving metal, I would wear them in the room the engraver is in. The other thing you can do it place a box over the engraver and problem solved. When you are engraving metal you don't have to worry about the fumes like you do when you are engraving plastics or wood.

    • @dsfryda
      @dsfryda  7 років тому +1

      Hi Stanley, I've used it on white plastic and depending on how high the laser is set, it will either clearly engrave it, or if you set it too high it will melt the plastic and you'll have black burn marks that you can't get rid of. You have to play with the settings, but when you get them correct, it does a nice job on plastic. I've been using clear Plexiglas and it does a great job making small signs that you can edge light with a LED strip.

      There appear to be Nichia diodes floating around the market that are not officially disclosed by the manufacturer. These are salvaged from projectors, where presumably a NDA prohibits Nichia from marketing their diodes publicly. But every generation of projector appears to include higher and higher power monolithic laser diodes.

    Hi, I'm looking for a laser cutter and I need some advice. Would a 3000 mW laser (3W) be enough to cut through fabric? Does anyone have any experience in this? Thank you very much!!!

    • @pteppig
      @pteppig 6 років тому

      1600mw would be sufficient enough for most fabrics. 3000mw will probably cut through any fabric besides fabrics which are fireproof/fire protected

      I have now thanks, also how did you get the metal to engrave so clean and bright looking? my metal projects all come out with a dark burnt look to the engraves

    • @dsfryda
      @dsfryda  7 років тому

      Both the knife and the flash light were anodized, so it took off the coding and left the light colored metal behind. Most tactical gear is black anodized, so it works great on that type of gear.

    Hi Dean, I also bought the 10w laser engraving maschine. But if I try to work with metal, nothing happens. Is there any trick to get the correct distance to engraving?

    • @dsfryda
      @dsfryda  7 років тому

      Hi Leon, what metal are you trying to engrave? The laser will not leave a mark on most metals, especially metal like gold, silver or steel. If you have metal that is anodized, it works very well because it removes the coding and leaves the metal exposed below, such as on the flashlight and knife in the video. But as far was true engraving on metal, it doesn't work. I've tried all different settings and it just doesn't have the power to engrave metal. It will however leave a mark on stainless steel as well, such as on knife blades. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!!

    • @leonmedia4229
      @leonmedia4229 7 років тому

      ah ok. I understand. I just wonder that nothing happens. But of course I can imagine that the color is engraved for egs on a knife. Your answer helps me to safe a lot of time . thx. Now I have to find out the correct distance. They forgot to put the focus pillar into the package. :(

      Hello, yes you can import your own JPEG or BMP. You can also install more fonts if you wish. Also you can Inkscape to create trace files as well for the software that is much faster if you don't need the fine detail.

      NetLogix, Inc. thanks so much for letting me know, if you don't mind I have another small question I can't find the answer to? do you know if there would be any noticeable difference between the 10w a the 15w as the description is exactly the same and they can both engrave the same materials?

    • @dsfryda
      @dsfryda  7 років тому +1

      Hello, I don't think you will find too much different. I believe that these lasers are actually 6.5 watt blue lasers that are overdriven to give you a "peak higher wattage" however, I believe that they average around 7 or 8 watts. I have not had any issue with mine, but I have heard others complain that the lasers burn out because they are being over driven. The laser I received had a larger heat sink then on the original models and is cold to the touch even after engraving for 30 or 40 minutes straight. Sorry I can't be more precise, but I too was having trouble finding out information of these units, which is why I decided to test and review them myself. Hope that helps! -Dean

      I have tried both solid Silver and Gold, but it doesn't leave a mark. I haven't tried anything plated in gold or silver, so it might burn off the top layer and let the base metal show through. Next time I find something gold plated I'll give it a try.

    • @dsfryda
      @dsfryda  8 років тому

      Hello, here is the link to the sellers page. I did a lot of searching online and this was also the cheapest price I could find for it. I think because they overhauled the heat sink and added a much larger fan that it helped with the over heating problem. I've used the laser on full power for 20+ minutes with no issues.

      Giron Maldini I've tried engraving on the blade of the knife and like you say, it leaves a mark, but you can't feel any engraving. However on the two items I showed in the video you can actually feel the texture of the engraving, albeit, ever so slightly, but it really looks nice.
