Gikfun Mini Electronic Stereo Speaker Kit - EK1831
Made this video well over a year ago and wanted to get it up on UA-cam for you. I lost some of my original files, so it's not my best work, but still features the speakers pretty well. Even with Covid I'v been extremely busy with work, but hopefully now I will have more time to create and post more electronic videos for you guys. I picked up several more of these small kit builds, so expect to see more videos from me in the near future. I Hope you all are doing well, stay safe, and take care!

    I had 2 PC-6's and also the Casio FX-795P, we used them every day in the oil field to calculate natural gas sales volumes, corrections for oil gravities, plus the necessary blackjack game. I added the extended memory and had the tape backup. Totally obsolete now but it was cutting edge tech back then. I also have the PC-7, the only drawback is that there is no backup so everything was lost when you changed batteries, and had to re-program it.

    I still have my Tandy-6 calculator I dug out of my closet. What a great $119.99 at the ttime Computer calculator it is (plus the I forget added memory addition). I even have the Tandy-6 user's guide that is a great handbook along with all my other computer calculator simple programs written for statistics and finance. I'm a retired 60+ year old professional programmer for hire today to supplement my retirement income (money financing upon user for my programs to be discussed as programs are transferrable and took me expensive education and many hours to algorithm transfer to). The reason why I say this is for Microsoft Excel getting the most bang for the buck there. Some small dust bunny bugs got in but I changed all those button cell batteries that will last years (unless running computer alot). I am still having fun. I am looking for another Tandy-6 with extra memory to retain my programs since 10 banks of different programs gets used up for me to store them all. I even programmed many advanced math programs and also have my extra memory to that 15K memory bank but I still love it today to run my: Random deck of 52 card pick (with that famous horse game in manual), Spaceship encounters like Star Trek, matrice multiply but first asking for number of rows, columns and columns of second matrix, then another program doing mathematical row reduction of square matrix to row reduce and find determinant by matrix student ways, any size polynomial root funding algorithm (even complex roots), lottery pick randomizer, mortgage calculations by mortgage loan amount principle, years of loan and interest rate financed fixed rate common all programming calculator formulas, etc and etc. i don't have that cable because of the extra memory being so long extra many programs fit inside making it a fun gamer and advanced mathematics tool. People today don't need it since Microsoft Excel has become the best replacement in laptops for Visual Basic programming and cell activation programming. However that is a programmer expensive code writing ability stored encrypted to lock out cheating rich people not awarding professional code writing talents such as me for highly versatile programming code to be business competitive. The Tandy-6 is still functional for me and still doing its mathematics and gaming checks. I'm a university degreed software programmer able to think outside the box and write efficient code to speed up complex calculations coding. The programs I had struggled and coded are valuable themselves as is Microsoft laptop Excel spreadsheets programming on cell activations and programming them. Good luck with all your Tandy-6s but I'm a Java, C++, C, Fortran-IV, Basic, assembly code software retired engineer with those programs and how many good ones can be programmed into this Tandy-6 winner for me to have as a simple carry around extra!! 😂👍 For students not able to program and use these 6s for how great they program or Microsoft Excel there is instant programs in MATLAB and PSPICE and Wolfram Alpha (to even get graphs) and graphing calculators abilities. I don't need a graphing calculator but they could outdo my Tandy-6 in showing approximate polynomial roots finding but lack a matrice and gamers program writing Excel and Tandy-6 can do with advanced programmer lnowledge.

    Just Perfect! you should show that cool graphical "Horse Race" game using basic language random function. Instead of each horse in the race, it was showing blinking diamond, heart, spade and club symbols. And the race was all the way from left of the display to right side. Mine was different brand (CASIO FX-795P) and helped me with all the hard exam questions in Uni. Thanks for reminding me good memories.

    Tales? What are "tales"???? Pretty sure it's TAILS. Just sayin...LOL. I also still have mine that I picked up in 1987. I think the most useful function for me was the memo function...I think I had about every spanish verb test pre-loaded on there before the tests...I also wrote some pretty stupid programs..one of them was a pretty cheesy "AI" program which people could ask questions and then it eventually just told them to F off...because I was a kid..:) It was pretty cool for it's time. I think I also typed in the program in the book - the horse race program. I probably wasted way too much time on that thing... Good Video though :

      LOL -Tales, ya don't know what I was thinking that day, but oh well I updated the spelling of it....LOL I also have some Casio's from around that mid 80's period that I want to do some videos on. I used the memo function all the time. Packed it with all my math equations for physics. It was a great little tool.

    Great video. Just picked up a PC-6, had a PC-4 back in the 80's. One thing I can't get around is that any program I enter in stops at every line of code, requiring hitting the exe key to continue. Trace is NOT on, and stop commands are not in the code anywhere. I know this isn't the way this thing is supposed to work. Long shot to get a comment from you since this video is pretty old. Crossing my fingers.

      Don't remember if the PC6 was a Sharp product or not, but all the Sharp-based RS pocket computers had a "PAUSE" command that you could use instead of PRINT... e.g. if you did PAUSE "Hello", it would print the word Hello and then wait for .8 seconds, then automatically continue with program execution.

    These guys are seriously advertising 10W output? My foot. 10W input maybe, lol. The refractions didn't even fry your camera, so I would say this thing's output is probably less than 2 Watts. Judging by the finish on those tools you etched, it doesn't look like it's doing much more than ablating off the anodizing. Consider giving L-Cheapo Mk6 (and some better goggles) a try.

    Story I heard which Ibelieve is the processor got gimped to avoid competing with the mac and that steve jobs soaked up as many resources as possible to effectivly have control of apple via the mac which was his pet project even though the II line were their breadwinners. I really wish the mark twain had come out and at least one VGA card had shipped.

    • @dsfryda
      @dsfryda 5 років тому

      Hello Andrew. I heard that story as well. If my memory serves me, I think it came out at like 4 MHz. Just think, you go to the store, you walk over to the Apple section, and they are going to have the two "best" computers from the different lines sitting next to each other. What would you buy? I computer that was full color, a desktop like the mac, had awesome sound, had a much better keyboard and mouse, tons of expansion space and still could run all that software you still have sitting at home, or you were using at school. It was a no brainer. If the IIgs would of been allowed to run at the full speed, to the consumer of the day, there would have been no reason to spend the money on a Mac. If Apple would of spent any money promoting this machine, it really could of been a big money maker for them. Eventually the processor would of been the shortcoming, but by then they might of had a different solution. But oh well. I still have my IIgs and it run at 14MHz, which is 2x what the Mac of the day ran at....LOL

      @@dsfryda I remember digging into what the GS+/Mark Twain could have done (1.44mb disk drive integrated, integrated hard drive, changeover to dimm slots for ram vs individual chips, and that's discounting any potential firmware upgrades.) I wish they had done it. Hell, it's a machine I would've wanted since at the time my school still had a lot of iie's, up until highschool I used word perfect and even after the switch to windows we still had a lot of dos machines that ran word perfect. One of the biggest things that could have helped a theoretical GS+ would have been a vga/svga video card giving it access to 'normal' monitors. Still would have died by the mid 90's but apple, I believe, would have had just a little more wiggle room.
