    Use masking tape over anything you want to test run. You will have to lower your speed and power but once you get it dialed in just to mark it and not cut through, it works perfectly. I use blue masking tape because the marking turns out better.

    Instead of using paint thinner (which is chemically designed to thin oil based paints), you should be using acetone for spray paints where they are ether based. Plus, you wash off the waste into a plastic or metal container, not down your drain where it will pollute your water system (either town water or your water table if you have a leach field).

    • @Putrid186
      @Putrid186 4 місяці тому

      to piggyback off this, actually just check with your water authority for drainwater if you have city sewage. Many things actually CAN be drained down your normal city sewage (like antifreeze in most places, holy smokes) but never your leach field (like antifreeze, holy smokes)

  • @davidrossman7925
    @davidrossman7925 2 роки тому +2

    Instead of using a masking paint that requires thinner or acetone to remove try using water washable tempera paint. Some people brush it on but I invested less than $100 on a Harbor Freight airbrush compressor/air brush set. Apply the tempera paint, let it dry, engrave your image and wash it off with water. That simple!

    Hello! I am having issues with my Xtool D1 Pro Laser. I received it and tried it, the first try was perfect. Then the second time I tried it wouldn't work. The laser would move around but the laser light barely had any strength. It would move around as if it was doing the job and would take the amount of time the project would take, however there were no marks on the plywood or anything and the light was very very weak. You could barely see. I emailed customer service and it has now been a 3 month battle or recommendations and changes they want me to make which I have but nothing has solved the issue. I went ahead and tried another laser head which is the one for metals. I did 1 dog tag that came out beautiful. I went ahead and tried to do another dog tag....same thing happened....the light was too weak barely visible, the laser would move around as if it was doing de project but nothing would engrave. I didn't change anything on the setting from first project to second. I was working with pre-establish material settings. Power speed and all was verified and still nothing. Do you have any idea what it could be or how to fix it?

    • @BitSmythe
      @BitSmythe Рік тому

      Home first. Then learn about where to start the job; current position vs exact dimensions. Also be aware of start location (the 9 dot grid). If you’re starting at top left and you’re engraving “selected items” they must be at that edge of your on screen project. In other words, if you have vertically, A, B, C and are only engraving B and C, it will skip the location of A even though you’re not outputting it.
      Also if you have the Blue laser head (with red crosshairs) make sure the Offset is on, for the IR head, it should be off.
      There are some great tutorials available.

      You can find a lot of free ones, but you can import DXF, SVG & PNG files. Etsy has a lot of files and you can find free ones on canva.

    So if I am looking at GlowForge or this what say you? Also is support good? I know GlowForge is US and this one is China-- Thanks

      @CorneliusCreations  2 роки тому

      Glowforge is a good machine, but it is ALSO a C02 laser. Which is more powerful. I am a fan of buying xTool and moving up as you learn how to use a diode laser like this.

    I was a laser operator in a small steel factory for many years. At home I had a CNC plasma cutter and have made tons of art projects with it. I am interested in this product but my garage is not heated. Would the below freezing temps wreck the machine? Thanks for the video.

    Why not laser on 100% and speed up? (instead of power 70% with 126mm/s) would this give the same result? I'm planning on buying a laser but very much dislike the waiting as I did with my 3D printing. So many hours. So, speed is key for me. Any advise?

    • @CorneliusCreations
      @CorneliusCreations  Рік тому +1

      Very good question. Depending on the material, lower speeds and higher power may be best. Or higher speeds and lower power. This is why I recommend doing a cutting and engraving test file. It will help you to determine which setting is best for you. If you are use to 3d printing, then lasering will be no problem for you.

      They make a 40w laser now. I'm just getting into lasers, but at that power it might be worth it to go to fiber or CO2. You want to talk fast. Their are more experienced people to talk to. Good luck.

    • @CorneliusCreations
      @CorneliusCreations  9 місяців тому

      Since it’s an open unit you can get an enclosure and smoke filter, but most people will use it in a garage or something where they don’t care about smoke

    I've had mine for about 4 months and I am very happy with it. I have the 5 watt version, the 10 watt seems like it does cut better so maybe soon I'll upgrade to the 20 watt module.

      If ur only gonna cut then jump to 20w but to engrave the 10w is better but over all the 5w is best for engraving

      @@dulcebellz3857 I've had nothing but great results using the 5w for engraving, initially I wanted to cut 3mm delrin plastic for guitar picks and pickguards but unfortunately It didn't work. I see a few people selling their 10w module only since they have the 20w so I might just save some cash and get that..

      @@TheSpineSplitter1990 was the 3mm too thick for the laser or what was the problem?

    • @TheSpineSplitter1990
      @TheSpineSplitter1990 2 роки тому

      @@Blash1 So I made the rookie mistake of trying to cut blue plastic sheets with the blue diode laser, it will cut it but it's such a hassle. I did cut red plastic and it was a lot faster. Blue and clear acrylic or plastic will have some issues cutting or engraving right. 3mm to 5mm wood is fine though.

      This is a wood carving dust collector. It's not the best for fumes, but it does collect a lot of the smoke. It works great with the laser in my experience though.
