Break the box | Heidi Joubert | TEDxCesena

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I love you Heidi Joubert! Great example of authenticity and talent. Thank you for the great presentation!
Wow thank you for your beautiful comment!
Just by chance I found your video of playing the box with KiddoKat on the guitar. Your music is a breath of fresh air.
So glad you liked our Subway jam! x
Peruvian Cajon. For Spain and the World.
Paco de Lucia introduced him to flamenco music.
I love you PERU
IRON-LION-ZION-777 Esoo Peruvian squad ✌️
I LOVE PERU TOO!! 😍 And Ceviche... 😁
Living outside the box is where the juice is; constantly pushing the walls of the box outward gives us a richer, fuller life, one that enables us to more fully express our potential. Great topic, and awesome job presenting, especially as Agata said below, what a tough frikin audience. They're the ones who really need to get out of their box. xo
😍
one famous brazilian music adapted with cajon and one beatiful voice oh my god bro...
Thanks so much, glad you like my voice! xxx
Amazing Heidi. Very inspired by your video and very keen on getting myself a Cajon.. Durbanite
Fascinating!
Wonderful talent, wonderful person. Stuck up crowd.
Thank you! They were Italian so perhaps it was hard to understand me... I hope that some of them understood 🤣
At 15:16 so witty of her to include that bit
What a great opportunity to share your amazing spirit and the spirit of the cajon! The world is your oyster, and I hope we get a chance to play again! Stay safe, may you always be protected and playful!!
Love you much my friend!
@@HeidiJoubert "Love you more!" :) Thank you for sharing your magical spirit!
If i were to name this speech i'd call it "out of the box". Anyways, Heidi you are such a cool artist. i just bought a cajon and i watch your videos to learn from you. keep it up teacher :)
Big hugs and so much Love!
Very educational Heidi. America needs a soul like you.
I will be in the USA soon! Big hugs
OMG this girl is amazing. I'm in love!
🤩
An outstanding and original artist. Great innovative sounds.
Wow thank you Jaco!
She sounds like - a great and talented musician. Hope will be travelling Australia, soon.
Ah thanks Max! I look forward to perform in Australia one day!
Very cool from another S African who also ventured out to start anew in another land.
Lekker man!
This is awesome! makes me want to get up and dance, and I don't dance! Also, it makes me want to buy one for my boyfriend so he can play it since he has a bit more rhythm than I do! Maybe we could both play. Heidi's excitement is contageous! :)
Aaah thanks! I send blessings! Hope you eventually got a cajon!
Love your performance Heidi
Thank you
You're amazing!
Heidi's great 👍 born Artist
Thank you my friend, so encouraging!
Lot of instruments come or evolve from others, the spanish cajón came from the Perú one but changed, the spanish one has four strings inside the box while the ones from Peru or Bolivia doesnt. Its like the Hawaian Ukelele it cames from the Portugués Cavaquinho but the hawaians changed it a bit. And so that happens not just with instruments but with lot of things, some people see something they like then take it and transform it to another level , it doesnt have to evolve for better always just they made different things from one to another and then you can choose the one you like it more.
BEYOND amazing.... wowwwwwwwwwwww
🥰 Happy you liked it!
she's awesome...
aaah 😍
A whole room of people who misplaced their inner child.
Great job Heidi!
Thank you!
Inspiring strong lady.
Thanks Mark
hi Heidi is the electric cajon run through the pa system as well?????
I believe so!
The microphone soooo needed some reverb for her opening performance!
I agree! We actually had it in the sound check but i think the engineer forgot to 'flip the switch'... It was not an easy start to the talk but hey, it made me stronger 🤣
Can we get an encore...
Can anyone tell me exactly how is she changing the sound of the cajon in the last bit?
You can say it is exactly like how a guitar player uses pedals for their effects.
@@sandcobainer Good reply
What a tough audience.... Breaking the box not easy also in this case... :)
I don't think they were a tough audience.... just being reserved and thoughtful about an instrument 90% of them had never seen or heard before. Plus they looked old so had maybe come along for another speaker. You can't not like Heidi and maybe she was too much for them. Bit of a force of nature. She also crammed a lot of info into that session.
I bought a Cajon last year, watched her videos and two weeks later did a gig with it. She certainly inspired me.
What she didn't mention is that you can get beginners models for about 60 Euros which means anyone can have a go. So like the humble ukulele ideal for schools.
Our gig was at a friend's garden party in a local village and she asked me to put a band together to play a 20 minute set. We did 2.5 hours and you could hear the unamplified Cajon 3 streets away !
These are cool instruments and you can do a lot with them.
they are just like death fishes in the box))
scary audience...
@@bubbanderson Wow thanks for this lovely comment! I am very happy you like my work!
hahaha, great comment! To be fair though, they were Italian so perhaps they didnt understand a word I said... I hope not! 😅🤣
# 32. This Was. AWESOME. !!!! 04/23/2022. Sat. 8:20 pm EST. . Sa'm The Drummer
She does a great job keeping the "breaking the box" concept all the way through the presentation. And it makes sense.
Too bad she is working the mic so close...it has a lot of proximity effect which causes too much bass and almost some feedback in spots. Heard to hear in spots.
Thanks ❤
No kidding Agata Mikolajczyk. And I'm guessing from your name English isn't your native language, sorry if I'm wrong. It appeared her audience didn't speak it either. Heidi is phenomenal. I enjoyed her back story and that of the cajon.
Audience was Italian, and I was born in South Africa. I am so glad you enjoyed this talk!
We are living strange times.
This baby artist , cool but vegy beginer, considered as a great accomplised musician.....
In every open scenes of every pub in every little town in the world, you will listen to the same nice ' musicians '.
She is a least a very beginner in petcussion and she madd a method.....
The result of a génération who always heard everything they did was genius.
It s sad people are no more able to understand what is a real musician.
The ''cajon'' is PERUVIAN
Peru cajón is diferent from the spanish one , the perú and bolivian cajones dont have strings inside, the spanish cajón have four strings inside that make the sound diferent , so at the end they are diferent . Is like the ukelele that came from the portugués Cavaquinho , the hawaians took that portugués instrument and made it a bit diferent but it came from there just like the spanish cajón came from the Perú one.
Brasil
Brazil!
All the people complaining about the audience and praising her should have been the audience🤔🤔🤔
🤣
Why some people thinks TED people had to be boring or so?
😍
Mental strength and living energy. The audience is cold as ice, not empathy driven. May be they are in a BOX. I hope it released their ropes a bit.
She's a hottie....an the crowd is PATHETIC-WHAT'S WRONG WITH THEM?
Hahaha, it was a serious affair, and most of them were italian, so perhaps they didnt understand me! Either way, I loved doing this talk!
They were respectful. This was an academic lecture, not a rock show in a bar or at a festival.
Sooooooo talented. Crowd sucked
😘
i love you and ist soooo funny - but you QUATSCHT GENAU SO VÜH WIE ICH
🤣😂
Horrible poor audio EQ on this. Too Bad.
All good except that we didn't need Paco de Lucìa to become proud of our cajòn, you've got that wrong!
No Paco did not make the cajon great, but he played a vital role in the Cajon being more exposed to the 'western' world with the addition of the strings. The Peruvian Cajon is simply amazing on its own!
wtf
Don't talk that much Heidi. Write a book maybe I read it..
Just break the box.
And yes that audience was at the wrong place at the wrong time. like efesli said; dead fish.
Write a book! I would love to! hahaha. I would have played more but this is specifically a Ted TALK event... talking was an essential ingredient! Thanks for enjoying!
shite
Bla bla bla bla
"this is the point where you are supposed to laugh." you... aren't funny?????
no, but she is beautiful :D
@@jeepsishumate2021 🤣 omg I just cracked up. You are indeed funny. And thanks for the compliment!
