Both locations are great. Safari park has more walking. SD zoo you have the double decker bus that you can hop off and on. Plus SD zoo has the little buckets sky farai that take you from the bottom to top of zoo. Great views too. Love them both. Been an annual pass member for 5 years, worth every penny. If you are able to consider getting a SD pass and go see both. Also think of the animals you would like to see polar bears and koalas at SD zoo.
I Love both Zoo’s! Love that we are getting 2Panda’s to see soon! Love to learn about all of animals! Both are beautiful zoo’s!!! Liked this video ! Very helpful explaining what both zoo’s have and how they are different! I have been member for 20 years! Just love going to both zoo’s ! ❤️😁💜🐼
Zoo! Been going to both for 35 years. The Safari Park has animals that are much more spread out so you can not see them up close as easily. Zoo you can see every animal very closely . Also, safari is in Escondido so have fun cooking to death in summertime with probably 90 to 100° temperatures. The zoo will probably be 75° in summer. Also, most the walking areas are not as fun and generally boring underdeveloped or lame at the safari park. Safari also uses a lot of diesel and gas motorized vehicles to shuttle people around at the safari park so have fun sniffing in diesel fumes and also fumes from those carts with no catalytic converter . Lawnmower style. There’s also many more animal species at the zoo. There are no bears at the Safari park, no polar bears . There are no jaguars at the safari park, there are no leopards at the safari park, there are no penguins. There are no baboons or bonobos/chimps. There are basically no reptiles at the safari park. There’s pretty much only African animals no Asian elephant no Asian rhino at safari. That ballon ride is also not free and probably less fun vs the free sky car ride at the zoo The waterpark is way better at the zoo for kids as well as all the play areas. Much better at the zoo. The Safari park will also charge you to park there. Zoo free parking. Also the garden at the Safari park is just a mangy looking desert. If you want better gardens, just go right next-door to the zoo to Balboa Park. There’s even a better desert garden in Balboa Park right next to the zoo. There’s absolutely no logical reason to go to the Safari park over the zoo unless you live much closer to the Safari park then you just don’t have to drive as far. That’s it.
I've been going to both since roughly '75. It took me quite a while to be able to succinctly answer the question "What's the difference?" The Zoo is any/all animals, like a typical zoo. ( ...but huge. When writing Jurassic Park, Michael Crichton claimed this zoo was an inspiration. ) The Safari Park ( which will always be called the Wild Animal Park by us locals ) is about conservation. The animals in the Safari Park are part of a focused conservation effort, endangered, etc. Some of them are even extinct but on the way to coming back, thanks to Dr. Kurt Benirschke's "Frozen Zoo" facility at the Safari Park. Embryos of extinct species are kept for the possibility of bringing them back someday. We locals miss the monorail that once went around the Safari Park, but it's still a unique experience because it's being used to repopulate or research, not just display.
Thank you for the insight! People say that the Zoo looks like Jurassic Park and it’s interesting to hear that it was part of the inspiration for the story. I didn’t realize there was a ‘frozen zoo’ at the Safari Park. Another great example of how they are focused on helping endangered species. Both parks are very enjoyable in their own ways.

Great suggestions! The SD pass / Annual membership are great options well worth the money.

Thanks glad it was helpful!! 🙂
Do they two person electric carts to rent???
I think they’re used only for guided tours.
San diego zoo is the best in my opinion they have the polar bears, koalas, and now they have pandas.
It’s an amazing place
cool
Choose? Do both!
Agreed!
avoid the safari park in the summer, i have seen people pass out due to the excessive heat. it's no fun when it's that hot!
Definitely check the weather. It can get hot there.
I came from a popular youtuber...
Anyone we know? 😃
@@Voyagerhq Yes :D Jawed
Awesome 😎
Zoo is kinda hard to follow and see everything.
It’s can be hard to see it all in one day unless you’re on a mission 😀
