very interesting, learn something that I didn't know about my hometown, although I do remember what it used to look like before Sea Port Village came in, it was one of the best fishing spot, used to be able to go down there to fish for Bass, then the Sea Port Village taken all of that way.
Me at the zoo
Do you need a ticket to do any of the things outside of the con ?
They are open to the public - it’s always good to get there early.

I hate San Diego. Worst city in California.
👀
My family moved from Detroit in 1968 (I was 7) and lived in a travel trailer for 8 months at the De Anza Cove resort while my folks looked for a place to settle (Escondido) and Dad found work (NCR in Rancho Bernardo) Us kids would walk to school through the golf course. What great memories playing at the cove in the water and the swings, riding our bikes through the mobile home areas with the Christmas lights all lit up.
Great story - it seems like it was very nice there back then. There’s a lot of change coming to that area - hopefully they can restore and improve everything.
@@VoyagerhqIt’s been so long in the making. It’ll be interesting to see.
That’s was a fantastic video, thanks.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Went there as a child of 10 with my family. Now returning for my 70th birthday with my spouse. I remember it being a great place.
I think you will enjoy it. It’s a wonderful place today, modern, and respectful to the animals and environment.
Have you driven by Rose creek in the summer? It is utterly digusting... I grew up there at Campland on the bay. What a shame our beautiful environment has become. Thanks for sharing the history of San Diego!
Right! I grew up not too far from there. Never thought much about how nice it must have been back then.
@Voyagerhq it's just sad... industrial pollution has really taken it's toll on that creek, SD river... mostly erased the fact that indigenous people once lived there.
I hate how they took from the people already there when all they did was help them
The Kumeyaays culture was to share and help others, that was their natural tendency toward visitors.
At 6:48 on the video, the artwork looks just like the megalithic blocks at Puma Punku in Bolivia!
The H-Blocks…Fascinating!
Very interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing it. Sadly, by the time the Church reached our ancestors here in the America's and northern Europe, the corruption that The Apostle Paul foretold at Acts 20:17, 29,30 had already taken place. "I know that after my going away, oppressive wolves will enter in among you and will not treat the flock with tenderness. And from among you yourselves, men will rise and speak twisted things to draw the disciples after themselves." One can see why Christ Jesus gave the warning he did, as recorded at Matthew 7:15-20 How wonderful it will be when all the past generations will be resurrected to a world forever free of injustice, exploitation, pains and sorrow. John 5:28,29 Revelation 22: 3,4 Micah 4:3,4
📖
Sometimes is best to keep some places hidden. They either don’t hold a crowd well, or are kinda dangerous and get closed when unknowing tourists get hurt there.
14:30 below river banks under water looks like old linear structures submerged
Researching for this video I learned there is a submerged village underwater near La Jolla. You can only get there by diving. It may have been from as far back as the last ice age.
so wonderful❤❤
Thank you 🙏
I feel like a *nerd* watching these videos about my *home state* 😂 But my mom took me to *a lot* of the missions when I was younger & it brings back memories
It’s great learning about these places and gives them a whole new meaning.
@@Voyagerhq i enjoyed it. Please do more videos about Cali in the future 🤙🏼
Wow, really well done look into the history of the area. Thank you for creating such a fine document. For as long as I can remember, driving north on I-5 (early 1970s). On the north end of Batiquitos lagoon, there is a circular mound with eucalyptus trees on it. I've always wondered how that circular dome came to be, right beside the lagoon.
That area by the lagoon and 5 freeway was a Kumeyaay settlement called Halom. It looks like an ideal place to stay near the ocean.
There’s a bunch of oyster shells (midden) on the hillside there. You can tell it’s where they dumped the shells.
On my way there as I type
Spongeboob 😆😍
🧽
Brilliant video but we’re struggling to find good hotel recommendations. Any thoughts?
Which area are you planning to visit?
I sort of miss the old seedy Oceanside from the 90s. Those big hotels are gross.
Agreed. Those hotels used to be parking for the beach.
Hi, you need to check out Rose Canyon Trail! you can access the trail here ->1022 Rose Canyon Trl, San Diego, CA 92117
There was so much covered in such a short time, I am certain this could be a 3 hour video given how much is truly in San Diego. As on of the Original Natives born in Balboa Naval Hospital, I have always enjoyed San Diego as my home and I grew to appreciate the diversity that has always been here in San Diego. It is one of the true multicultural places in the world and it saddens me to see how much politics and government even the news tries to divide the amazing people in San Diego. I love San Diego as the conservative town it grew up as with progression for expansion and usage, but I now despise our local and state leaders for their policies in how they have failed epically with their governance. I hope more of my fellow San Diegans see this video, appreciate the effort it took to research and develop it and then get out and tour San Diego for all the amazing places... I also hope that as you do so you are inspired to vote for better leadership to save and develop San Diego in a better fashion.
I live in Mira MESA with my backyard next to MM Blvd. I had dug my back yard about 4 feet deep and found many sea shells leaving me to think a very long time ago MM Blvd was a river that flowed west thru Sorrento Valley Rd into Del Mar/. Must be when ice age was receding and the Scripps area near the mountains was or used to be coastline with native living atop of those East of Mira Mesa.
Oh, but what I found were dozens of them iron balls or the bullets for them muskets. various sizes but found many believing linked to the Spaniards or Cortez men of landing at certain points of the coastline of exploring as they did.
Millions of years ago, during the Pliocene epoch, much of San Diego was underwater. Marine sediments, including shells, were deposited when the ocean extended further inland. Over time, tectonic uplift and sea level changes exposed these deposits, leaving seashells buried far from today’s coast.
I dig your vids, their like old home week. Lived in dago from 66 to 98 been living on the outskirts of Denver since 98, loved it there.
I’d love to go exploring around with you kinda crazy how you can see houses built upon these sits in north county. Ramona , lake Hodges , valley center . Or these hills are empty on private property. It’s crazy and sad how we know there’s ancient knowledge beneath our feet which they refuse to investigate.
(33.0235040, -117.0542823) - these coordinates are for a site in Poway with the highest concentration of complex Rancho Bernardo Style art in the region. The only thing is they are inaccessible because they are on protected land surrounded by private property.
dope vid!
Glad you enjoyed!
New subscriber here thanks for a great video looking forward to seeing more
Thanks for subscribing! We have much more coming soon!
Tip Top meats closed up the end of September, the owner died and the family didn’t want to run it from what I hear.
Sorry to hear that. It was a great place
!WARNING! Don’t go there you won’t like it, I know I live there.
😂
If they clean up the grafitti's on the walls of the mushroom house, would be nice.
Absolutely 👍🏼
Great information, photos and footage! Sometimes its the littlest things - for me, the fault lines drawn from La Jolla thru the bay was a nice setup for understanding the long formation of the bay. Thanks for all the work you put in😎
I agree, visuals can be so helpful to share info difficult to describe. Thanks for watching! 🙂
Nice video, though I wish you would have given some mention to Old Town, which was the city's previous center before being moved to New Town, which is the region we now know as Downtown.
Thanks for the suggestion. Heres a video we made about Old Town 🙂 Old Town San Diego’s Hidden Gems: The Best Things to See & Do ua-cam.com/video/P9uW8P0To3w/v-deo.html
great
Thanks!
Really enjoyed your video, I love History. I'm in Tennessee, but used to work for a lab based out of San Juan Capestrano, with my division in San Diego. I moved to Nevada and enjoyed the West for 17 years. Love the desert. I miss the area and the people. Best Thoughts...
Thank you! The desert really is beautiful and mysterious - with lots of interesting history. 🙂
I'm so glad there was no whitewashing in your vid. I wish it could be used in schools studying Calif history.
You can probably do a full vid on the Goat Canyon Trestle Bridge Hike.
Great suggestion!
🤙🤙🤙
🤛
I loved watching the planes fly by as we were training during bootcamp😂 I’m from LA but San Diego is a beautiful city with a lot of things to do. Barrio Logan and petco park when the dodgers play🤙🏼
“Watching the planes” 😂 only Hollywood
You mentioned "reclaimed land" and "reshaping the bay" without yet mentioning how billions of tons of sand and mud were dredged to make it all possible. Dredging didn't begin with the creation of Shelter Island. It began as a way for Navy ships to use the otherwise naturally shallow bay. And because transporting the material long distance was prohibitively expensive, new land was formed all around the bay. This new land included the embarcadero, Naval Training Center, all of the airport and Marine Corps Recruit Depot, and much more. And how can you mention the USS Midway museum without saying anything about the pre-eminent San Diego Maritime Museum that restored, maintains, and sails the oldest fully operational ship in the world?
That’s true and I appreciate you mentioning those details. I could write a list of many things I wanted to but didn’t cover in this video.
I've lived in Encinitas since 2003, and I learned a few things about my hometown. Thanks for the great information and beautiful view of the city. There's nowhere else I'd rather be.
Beautiful place
So beautiful animal park, San Diego Zoo, I wish all the animals are happy over there.
I love it there. It’s very peaceful.
Used to work at a shop in liberty plaza with my ex, like working at amazon everyone cheats lmaoo
👀
Imagine the paradise it must've been for indigenous people.
And for over 10000 years.
Great video! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
The mission dam was a haven for skinny dipping back in the 70s. I'm sure well before and after.
Fascinating, that would be unimaginable today 🤣
