      I think the problem (except for multiple plot holes) is that everyone expects action from a Marvel movie but here we didn't get it much, instead we got a movie focused on Tony Stark dealing with his trauma after almost dying in space. It was more about the character's psychology than other Marvel movies, and a lot of people didn't expect that and that made them disappointed. When you're hyped for a certain type of movie and find out you're watching a different genre, you're not gonna enjoy it that much. Plus Mandarin.

    There was some glaring plot holes and continuity errors but I love that so much of this movie was Tony outside of the suit, it shows that he is more than the suit. "If you are nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it." This proves that he believes in his own philosophy. Plus theres a whole scene of Ironman just saving a group of people falling out of a plane, its one of the only scenes in the MCU where the hero is just saving people, LIKE SUPERHEROES ARE SUPPOSED TO, instead of fighting whatever villain is threatening to end the world this year.

      They were all KIA. And, in Iron Man 3, Tony saw any that might've survived as failures that weren't good enough. He was going through a bit of trauma after Avengers, remember?

    • @MegaKaitouKID1412
      @MegaKaitouKID1412 8 років тому +67

      Tom Mills I'm not saying that it's a perfect movie-- it's far from. The fact he was making so many shitty suits out of fear and trauma was all but explicitly stated in the movies, and the fact that he saw them as failures was also all but explicitly stated. But, sorry, you're right-- the only facts that a movie provides are the ones it tells us outright. It never shows us anything and expects us to be smart enough to understand what that means. And if it does, we cannot dare to think of those things as legitimate parts of the movie, because the audience should never be expected to think! Word of God is the only authority, nothing else!
      *sigh* Hate the film all you want. Hate that aspect of the film all you want. But don't attack other people for daring to think differently about even one aspect of the film than you. I'm not saying it's a good film, just that the way that I viewed and interpreted the character's mental state-- and it's not a stretch, these things were all but explicitly stated-- that particular aspect makes more sense than people give it credit for.

    This video addresses the main problem with The Avengers - there is no longer any feasible reason why any superhero should have to do anything alone. All Marvel movies with individual superheroes will cause the viewers to ask "Where were the Avengers the whole time?"

    • @Kirinketsu_

They should rather then thanking people would ask where are the Avengers .. rather do 2 different stories for everything ... or nothing will make sense. a solo of that heros story and then an avengers .. that have nothing in common with each other... for what I can tell they are trying to use marvel agents of shield to tie Xmen into the avengers ...

      Kirinketsu SPOILER: at the end of captain america 2 you see quicksilver and scarlet witch, the problem is they both are x-men characters quicksilver even appears on X-men days of future past. i dont know how they are going to tie all of that in a way it makes sense

    • @ahlpym
      @ahlpym 10 років тому +1

      marcozx135 As I understand it, the Quicksilver in Days of Future Past, is not the same as the one in Age of Ultron (they're both Pietro Maximoff, but they're not from the same fictional universe), so this won't tie the franchises together.

    • @EricLucero
      @EricLucero 10 років тому +2

      marcozx135 Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Avengers characters. Scarlet Witch was a long standing Avenger. They appear in X-Men comics because they are mutants and Magneto's children, most often Quicksilver as a villain. Later Quicksilver turned good and joined X-Factor for a time. None of this really matters however because Fox has so royally screwed up the X-Men movies that they can pretty much do whatever they want with them and not stray any further away from the lore of the comics.

    Killian has some of the worst conflict in any movie ever made. He's basically the bad guy from The Incredibles. He doesn't want revenge because over more understandable things like the first two movies, but because Tony Stark blew him off this one time and did not invest in his invention that still went on to make him wealthy and successful in his own right. +Johnny Skinwalker Exactly, he's into petty revenge against his idol who he thinks brushed him off, when really from the moment we first met him it was evident his overbearing behavior and over-inflated sense of entitlement already ruined his chances of getting said idol's approval. Did he really think practically cockblocking Tony with his impatient demands at a New Years party was gonna win him ANY points with him?

    I really hate what they did with Ben Kingsley's character. He was so menacing, so terrifying and those video clip things were so disturbingly plausible. Just... +Dr Famine Loki was a great villain, I just wanted a kind of "I'll do it myself" villain and the Mandarin was a great missed opportunity for that. I love Loki, but he isn't a do-it-youself villain. Just a matter of opinion I guess.

    • @DrFamine
      @DrFamine 8 років тому +11

      Zuri - Solo Sniper He was a good villain in Thor, he was kinda pulling the strings and planning and you get why he's doing it. And... I mean, an army of random henchmen is a bit meh, but you understand his motivations and his fear of failure in the Avengers. He's a good, serviceable villain for those situations. ... But he's not, you know, this kind of an evil mastermind that seems to be an unstoppable force of evil. This dude could have been closer to that. Loki is not a bad villain by any means, though. I don't know, maybe I've been spoiled with Batman villains too much.

    His PTSD was the 'best' feature of this film tbh. Like he's actually a normal human, unlike say Thor. Plus he's the one the got thrown out into space in Avengers and as someone w/ anxiety (tho not PTSD) how he reacted was actually really accurate and, well, honest. And his suits were poorly made and rapid out of stress and something to preoccupy the mind. The assembly scene we see is actually just one of the many others he created just like that. He still has to test each suit though... that's what he was doing.

      A few reasons
      1) Everyone loves Iron man due to the first movie's success, RDJ, & the overall coolness factor of his suits
      2) Cap before Winter Soldier was kinda lame. TWS is where they made him into a BAMF, but in his first movie and especially Avengers he wasn't exactly a people's favorite
      3) Guardians were super unknown. like bottom-of-the-barrel heroes. Most people expected it to flop before release.

    • @LabradorIndependent
      @LabradorIndependent 8 років тому +11

      Winter Soldier followed on from First Avenger, which nobody cared about, and Captain America in The Avengers, which did nothing to make the character interesting. So nobody cared about the Captain America sequel. As for Guardians of the Galaxy, it was an unknown film that most expected to be stupid, so less went to see it.
      But people will flock in their millions to see another Iron Man, or indeed Regular Man, even if it's a mediocre film.

Tony realistically suffering from PTSD, and the reveal of the Mandarin - undercutting all that larger-than-life menace he was projecting - were actually things I liked about it. Tony Stark is Iron Man as much as Bruce Banner is the Hulk. But, at least Bruce Banner can transform (sort of) at will. When your powers aren't active all the time, then you aren't the super hero those powers make you all the time.
      Besides, this movie takes a completely idiotic direction with the whole Iron Man suit thing and makes it so that anyone can use them. In the comic books, Tony made it so that the suits ran on the power of the arc reactor on his chest (which drew power from himself so there was a level of human exertion involved and not just mechanical percentages of power). Other people have stolen Tony's suits on occasion, but they have ALWAYS had to modify that them heavily before they were even remotely usable by them. But, as of this movie, any dumbass can just step into a suit and be Iron Man.
      So, if Tony Stark is Iron Man even when he is out of the suit, then everyone anywhere is Iron Man because they can all wear and use the suit if they want.

    You know, I'm actually okay with people not liking the movie for the lack of Iron Man suits, their fragility, or the Mandarin twist. Despite disagreeing with the criticism, I can respect their viewpoints.
    It's when people criticize Tony Stark for having vulnerability and depth in the movie instead of being a walking penis that really makes me question some comic book fans. Don't even get me started on the people so sexist that they were actually offended by Pepper Pots (with shiny new superpowers) finishing the already almost dead Killian.

    • @ttv0

      I went to see Iron Man but instead I got this. The first two were good, they had excellent character development and lots of action. This was just boring, Tony having some sort of anxiety issues (what?) the main villain, one beloved by fans, was turned into, nothing, hell he was actually really, really cool, but no let's just say fuck off to everyone, his suits were stupid why would he not keep using his old ones? they were just fine, worked perfectly, and didn't you know, suck. The kid was unnecessary and stupid, pepper should have just been written out of the plot, and where the fuck where to other Avengers to help in this National emergency? I can understand no Hulk or Thor, but Captain America? Hawk eye? Black Widow? Random shield agent? Anyone?! What the hell? We have a group of supervillains with fire powers and they are just going to write that one off as nothing?

    • @ThejusRao
      @ThejusRao 10 років тому +12

      ttv0 Tony Stark IS Iron Man. The first one was excellent, but the second was meh.
      Tony's anxiety issues were directly linked to the battle of the Avengers. Atleast the others had fought battles before, but Stark was just "normal". If we had been in his place, finding out about aliens, gods, going through a wormhole, we'd be having PTSD as well.
      The main villain would've never worked. Even if they retained the Mandarin as the villain, what would be his motive? His back story? His powers? His reasons for attacking Stark? Face it, Mandarin would never have worked. Don't tell me that they should adopt the story from the comics, because that one is the worst CB I've ever read.
      His old suits were destroyed when Killian destroyed his home. Since he had PTSD, he concentrated on just keeping his mind occupied, via the suits. Otherwise, he'd have made a proper one that doesn't fall apart.
      The kid was unnecessary, I admit, but not stupid. He behaved how a normal kid would behave.
      Remember, only Stark and Rhodey knew about the Mandarin and Killian. The whole world was oblivious to that, and thought that the Mandarin was an actual terrorist. It is the duty of the US to interfere, not SHIELD. SHIELD only takes care of high profile stuff, not a common terrorist attack.

    • @ttv0
      @ttv0 10 років тому +2

      Thejus Rao after Tony was attacked and presumed dead, SHIELD would definitely get involved in some way, and because SHIELD is extremely efficient in finding things they would have discovered the Mandarin, I can enjoy Tony without his suit in fact that's some of his best moments but they just didn't do it right, he wasn't that traumatized when it happened in fact he took everyone to go eat some shawarma right after, I get adding some realism but come on that is just ridiculous, it was an unneeded plot point that didn't really add anything. Have you ever read any comics on the Mandarin? He is one of the biggest and most recognised of Iron Mans Villains and they just ruined him, which sucks because before he seemed so cool. They could tell his back story easily by tying the Aliens in. And if it was too much to have him in the story right now then don't fucking add him, Killian could just use someone else for his plan and not tell all of us fans to fuck off.

    Okay, guys, the Iron Man suits are designed to be attached to a human body, meaning that a human body is required to keep the thing together. Otherwise, they're a bunch of hollow parts connected together at the joints, meaning it would not take much force to get them to break apart. The suits are designed to minimize the damage to the human being inside of them, but that doesn't mean they're that resilient themselves.

      It doesn't matter what I am, the suit is supposed to be stronger than a human body, if flesh and bone is all that's holding the parts together, it is a terrible suit of armour and those joints are a major design flaw.

    gotta be honest, i love marvel but, this is the worst and weakest of the entire MCU. i like the idea of tony having to rely on his wits to survive, but its kinda negated once you realize he could call on another suit when his mansion was attacked or something. and more importantly the Mandarin. fans have been waiting for him for a long time and this is just insulting. he was such a threatening villain in the comics and they turned him into a joke. just shows a lack of faith in the source material. and while Killian's plan is pretty good. he isn't. i mean come on just because Tony missed one meeting he's gonna turn evil. also if you think about it the whole movie is kinda a rip off of the incredibles. so dissapointing

His real name is never supposed to be revealed because he is supposed to be a mysterious villain like the Joker. The Mandarin to Iron Man is what the Joker is to Batman. He is also not Shang-Chi’s father, he is Temugin’s father. The MCU is so stupid and woke.

    I could have forgiven this film, I really could have,,,,but the MANDARIN!! It's been said before, but I'll say it again... WHY? Making him some crazy actor pretending to be a bad guy was the laziest direction this movie took. It seemed like it was only done as a last minute plot exposition to include Pepper more. I mean come on, making the nerdy guy that everyone ignored in the beginning of the movie, grow up to be the villain? Goodness, it's so clique and has been done to death. Really preppy guy in a tailored suit and a few fire powers? Not intimidating. A terrorist who burns down villages and slaughters the innocent just because he can? THAT' is where fear comes from. I mean the freak even hacked the internet just to leave a sweet message to the American public about how everyone was going to die. Who does that?
    I'm sorry, but there were just so many places they could have taken this movie.....but nope, in the end they traded it all in for cheap comic relief and a clique, non-threatening villain.

      a) yes they could have gotten away with it very easily. let's be honest here, the vast majority of terrorist acts committed against the US in the last 10 years have been done by middle easterners, so it's more keeping in line with current events than being racially insensitive.
      b) race has got nothing to do with the issue people have with the movie. the mandarin is iron man's biggest and most feared villain and they turned him into something as threatening as a box full of kittens. not only that, but they wasted Ben Kingsley who is, in my opinion, one of the best and most underrated actors of all time.
