The last truck my dad bought before he passed was a 1990 KW K100. It had a 12.7 liter,430hp Detroit Series 60 with a 15 speed transmission. Yeah, he loved those KW's...and with good reason. I'm lucky that I got to drive it...
I remember going to the KW dealership with my dad in 1976. The lot was full of the Bicentennial K100 Aerodynes, flat tops and the W900 Model A conventionals. All with that beautiful Red, White and Blue paint scheme. I wish I had a picture of all those beautiful trucks lined up in a row...
I grew up in a trucking family and this is the first time I have seen a family members truck not once but twice in the same video and I just wanted to say thank you for the video. I hope you don't mind but I've done send this video to my various family members. They are going to love this... Thank you for the trip down memory lane and my childhood.. as well you gave me more knowledge about My most favorite vehicle on the planet as well as I was born in the sleeper of a 1973 KW . So thank you for taking the time to put together the best video ever.
The new Aussie K200 is way more advanced than the old K100. It’s got a flat floor and rides as good as a European cabover except it’s got a much bigger sleeper and is built to last. It took a while to get used to the different shape radiator grille, but everyone is used to them now because there’s so many of them around.
The only reason we’ve got them is because of length laws. You mainly see them on 26 metre B-Doubles which is just about all you’ll ever see on east coast highways where just about everyone lives. In the north and west which isn’t so populated it’s mainly conventionals hauling multi-trailer roadtrains. Kenworth is #1 seller here for both cabovers and conventionals. There wouldn’t be a market for class 8 cabovers in North America I would think. For one thing they are more expensive to make than a conventional.
Damorange refrigerated Transport , mostly use K200 X15 Cummings engines fatcabs on 26 b- doubles and now they use them on b- doubles with A&B quad axle configurations they never fail them . Beats me why they stopped using them in the USA.
I regularly drive a K200 as a casual driver. They are light years from the old K104s I used to drive in terms of driver comfort! They ride better than a T409 as well imo.
You don't see many but the K100 was also available with a set back front axle although it was only back 7". I also remember a conversation with KW engineering who told me the inspiration for the Aerodyne came from a Greyhound bus
No question about that. Used to love that series as a kid and just managed to buy a Revell model kit version in 1/32nd scale in similar colour scheme and an all black Revell kit in 1/25th scale along with a reefer trailer.
Good video. Should have found pictures of the layout of those K100 stand up sleepers. Young people probably dont realize you could stand up behind the seats. International had flat floor cabovers in the USA. When you looked in the cab it was like an optical illusion.
This fun fact almost made the video - but we were trying to shake things up a bit with no movies or tv show appearances in this 10 Things video ;) Thanks for watching, Daniel!
Im still the owner of Several KW Trucks. '76 K100 Bicentennial Edition Aerodyne and 2 W900 Bicentennial Edition Aerodynes. A 1985 W900 Liberty Edition Aerodyne . And 2 1985 T600's. Still running Dedicated Turns each week.
The HG-Hank Goodin truck was leased onto Carretta back in the day when I was with them. US dealers did not want the new KW cabover because they had a firm hold with conventionals in the market. Drivers wanted the long hood, cool -look and then they found they couldn't get in or out of many places like a cabover. Many large carriers switched to conventionals because they could attract new drivers-purely a marketing strategy in recruitment.
George Toma I would suppose so. I’d imagine it’s similar to our laws here in Australia about importing from the USA. Over 25yrs is ok. But it’s a nostalgia type thing, for a working commercial vehicle the steering wheel would need to be on the correct side. You could call Kenworth here and ask them to build you one. Maybe they could do a limited export deal, we don’t make much here anymore. GM killed our local car plant, we were sending you Utes and Pontiac’s for a while, your import laws killed it.
You would be surprised cabovers are as aerodynamic these new trucks remember the air flows right through the grill and out the back I get 7mpg in mine and I don’t pussy foot around
My dad bought a brand new KW K100 in 1973 for $32k. 425 Cat with a 15 speed transmission. It cost more than our $29k house!
I would love to find another '73 K100 and restore it.

The only reason its more advance is cause USA stop building them, but I sure would love one of those k200 thou👍

@@gm16v149 As long as the ride is smooth they would definitely have a market for the K200 in the USA, especially in the owner operator market

I had a K100 E and loved it.
I used to drive an 88 K100E down here in New Zealand. Awesome truck Cat 3406B @425 hp. 80" sleeper.

What a coincidence 2:13 has one of my works old K108, we don’t have them anymore but the T359.
There's a kenworth k100 wrecker/rotator here in England that works.its in BJ and the bear colours.
As a KW salesman back in the 80s I remember selling these cabovers, with FET included for $65,000.
CTX5O What was the price for a new K-100 Aerodyne VIT back in the 80's?
What’s that shield looking thing around the windshield for on #3??
The most iconic K100 would be from the tv show BJ and the Bear.
Absolutely!
For sure!

my Great uncle had one of those my final road test in one in 1987. phoenix to Lake Havasu AZ
How about a video about Marmon Trucks?
Good video. Should have found pictures of the layout of those K100 stand up sleepers. Young people probably dont realize you could stand up behind the seats. International had flat floor cabovers in the USA. When you looked in the cab it was like an optical illusion.
Kenworth Aerodyne
Is there a video series on Marmon Trucks???
They road rough but sure were sweet in a tight spot.
Well, you taught me some things...the K100s are still made and they made a flat floor model! That’s impressive! I love cabovers...cabovers rule!
Also another fun fact: the K100 made an appearance on the popular 80s cartoon “Transformers G1” as a Decepticon named “Motormaster”
This fun fact almost made the video - but we were trying to shake things up a bit with no movies or tv show appearances in this 10 Things video ;) Thanks for watching, Daniel!
Optimus Prime was also a K100
@@foltzenlogel you sure i thought Optimus Prime was a Peterbilt either way still cool though..
Ron Farmer G1 Optimus was a Freightliner
Pretty sure he was a freightliner
Awesome video, didn't know about that flat floor K100 prototype.
Another good video thank you for sharing. And I look forward to the next one.
just a gorgeous rig and wish they'd bring them back or make them special order in N.A.
From what I Understand, you can Still order K100's from Kenworth but They Have to be at Least 5 Trucks.
@@MiguelDiaz-qe8sp ooooh be still my asphalt heart
@@MiguelDiaz-qe8sp false. They only produce the K200 in Australia for that market. They do not offer it anywhere else.
Love this series, please keep them up
Thanks for watching!

Interesting and nice video. Many thanks.
Gotta be one of the best looking trucks all round I like the long nose trucks better then the flat ones.

There is a K100 sitting in the back of a truck lot here in Anchorage
Wonder if my dad's old K100 was a special edition. I haven't been able to find a single one with the same paint scheme.
I like the way you voiced this one! A ton of the other videos sound to forced go this route for sure! Cheers
Love the K100, Thinks. God Bless
From memory. We had the k100, k100e ,k123, k124, k125, k104,k104b , k108 k108b, k108e, k200, k220. Add any if I have missed. We also had the L700
I fell in love with this vehicle because of the tv show, BJ and the Bear.
Beautiful!
I was always more fond of the square head lights on em
i just bought a k100 and plan to bring her back to life !
My 2nd favorite kenworth
question? can a K cab-over be imported. from down under to the united states?
George Toma where would you drive it? Steering wheel is on the right side.
@@bobbob-fg5wy hello. would that make it illegal?

I don't see why not. I've seen several Scania trucks running over here.
6.26 my home town Huntsville AL 256 home to Marshall space flight center!
What were some of the engines used before diesel
A lot of gas engines. And before that horse, and mules
Kenworth was the first to use a standard diesel. In 1932.
You all forgot to mention that Kenworth built the first "Condo'...the Aerodyne
I just love cabovers🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Good beautiful truck 😍❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've only driven two trucks in my career. A 91 K-100 flattop 60", and my current 99 9800 flatfloor condo.
Maybe someday you can drive a jimmy Astro cabover.
Australia made the flat floor k100 and is still made today.
Truck on.
🤟😎👍🚛🚛🚛
i super love that truck a drove him in mexico dangerous road on my chanell high vibration with him.
Highway Hanks Hilton!❤️
That 1st picture @ :28 is sooooo beautiful 😍
Why did they reject a flat floor can over?
Ponle subtítulos en español! Gracias
The k 200 looks like the old peterbilt cabover
I wish they would bring cabovers back..
If you had to drive them, you would not. Want to stay in one, I put over 4million miles on cabovers and they were very rough riding
First kenworth built in Australia is a 1971 K125AR
What ever happened to Hank Good???
#11.. 79 K100 Aerodyne VIT .. From BJ And The Bear..
They had 5, two '78s, a '79, and two 1980 models.
Prefer the Aussie K200 to be honest.
Very interesting😎☹!
So do Aussie truckies like me who have driven both K104 and K200. The air ride cab and flat floor of the K200 just make for a great all round truck!
The real american truck !
Nothing screams "aerodynamic" like a big cube on wheels.
You would be surprised cabovers are as aerodynamic these new trucks remember the air flows right through the grill and out the back I get 7mpg in mine and I don’t pussy foot around
Australians get all the good stuff
It is a brick, but a beautiful brick
Truck's use to be so so cool! What the hell happened?
If it isn't Kenworth, it isn't anything. At least in trucking.
I Know The Kenworth K100 Because Of Optimus Prime.
bro! Infamous mean famous for being bad.
The K100 did not make it's debut in 1961. They debuted in 1965, prior to that they were K500 models and had the full skirting behind the front wheels.
That is incorrect, the k100 was released in 1961. Kenworth’s own website has the production starting that year. Thanks for watching.
Cabovers are real trucks.
And that’s proof that you can polish a turd 🤣
PLEASE DON'T SHOW SO MANY INTERIOR SHOTS.
