Modded my sons 16” Shredder to be a lightweight neighbourhood/park ripper!
BB converted to euro w/ 2 piece 130mm redline race cranks
Ultralight pedals
35t 5 bolt chain ring
Coaster brake delete
Super light 9speed chain hollow plate, hollow pin
Aluminum expert race bars 6.5 rise, cut down in width
22.2 combo race seat
Lightweight ride now tubes (electrical tape to cover the spoke nipples)
Probably cut about 2.5-3lbs off it. I may grab a set of 16x1.75 Kenda kontacts for another half pound or more reduction. Also the stem is likely a brick and there could be some better options out there.
He absolutely loves this bike. I recommend it to everyone even in stock form. It’s a nice, less expensive package than the heavy steel bikes.

I skipped this size and went straight to 20 inch Kinks for 2 7 and 8 yr old boys. I feel like they will outgrow this bike in a year or 2.
They do so I try to inform people that they can buy whatever size. When they out grow it in a year, sell it. Look at what you lost as what you rented for. So a loss of $120 is $10 a month for your child to have the correct size.
