i got a Leep done last tuesday and im forever traumatized. If my next pap comes back positive im def not going thru that again unless they do general anesthesia or they take everything from me once and done im not having more kids! is insane to me that in 2023 women have to go thru procedures like this that are very painful for most! my doctor was horrible with bedside manners did not explain nothing like aftercare or nothing

I had a LEEP done last week and every woman should be knocked out for that procedure. I felt the cutting of my cervix and the cauterization was awful and I felt it too. It was painful for me. There is nothing worse than being told to hold still and not move as you are getting lit up like the 4th of July down there. Having to position yourself so that they can get a clear view of your cervix is just crazy. They used paste to stop the bleeding after the LEEP procedure, and that paste was a mess. The drive home was so painful only to discover the next day that the paste had ran down to the vaginal opening and hardened up like a rock. I had to break it off just to get some relief. I'm just hoping that she got everything and that my pap smears come out clear over these next several months. I wish you all the very best in your journeys. Thank you Miss Emily for sharing your experience with us. It's videos like yours that helped me understand what the LEEP procedure was about. I too wasn't told what the procedure actually was until the day of the procedure. Thank goodness I did my own research but we shouldn't have to do that.

I’m literally going through the same thing. I’m high risk hpv +. This is my Second year of having abnormal pap and needing a colposcopy and praying they don’t recommend the leep procedure. 😫 my anxiety is through the roof. Thank you for sharing your story.

🤞🏻hopefully you continue to not need the LEEP, but if you do, advocate for yourself! Anxiety meds, pain meds, or ask if it can be done in a hospital under anesthesia like I did. I couldn’t handle it otherwise 😔

I’ve been on the fence of getting this done in office awake or at the hospital under GA. Can say this video definitely reassured me to stand firm on my decision of getting it done in the hospital. This can be a lonely experience and is not talked about enough, or at all even. Thank you for letting me know I’m not alone and sharing your experience ❤️

I just had the LEEP done. The experience was horrific.
They did not prescribe be anything to take before.
My entire body was shaking so badly, my heart was racing and I thought it was going to go out my chest. And my hearing went crazy too, like mumbled and echoing.
That hurt so badly. She took 2 chunks of my cervix. The needle to numb me was huge (which she did 3 times and that was horrific).
They should absolutely do this procedure knock a person out for this procedure.

I feel so awful for your story, they tried to send me for colposcopy for LSIL and I’m going against medical advice, I’m gonna wait six months and get another pap and then re evaluate. I’m so terrified of all these procedures every woman has an awful story. I opted to wait it out and build the immune system. They are always so quick to cut on you and I’m just not for it.

@@emilyshaack most of my friends have all gotten cut on and then had a negative within two years without intervention. Take AHCC it’s had some positive studies and I can see rapid clearance of a small growth I had in my arm which is a wart. It’s almost gone so I’m feeling hopeful. I take a lot of mushroom supplements, EGCG, alpha Lipoic acid and NAC, DIM, turmeric with a multivitamin 😂 it’s a lot but since I’m seeing results externally I’m gonna stick with it. I’ll know more in October I’m gonna schedule a pap then. Again I literally cried listening to your story I’m very sorry you’ve been traumatized by the medical industry. I watched my sister freak out like you describes and they cancelled her appointment and put her under for a cone biopsy. Just by watching her panic like that I’ve been traumatized too.

I've been high risk HPV positive for something like 10-12 years now. Finally had an abnormal PAP for the first time last year, which led to a colpo and biopsies. No surgeries yet, but the recovery from the biopsies were uncomfortable enough! I swear I'm pushing for a hysterectomy and take the damn cervix. I'm so sorry about your experience also though, nothing like waiting, not knowing and having no one to walk you through it

Last Friday I had my second leap procedure. My first one was done 10 years ago. My doctor was having me get biopsies done every six months and after the second one I said enough is enough let’s just do the leap procedure because it pretty painful even though I tolerated the pain in silence. She agreed I got it done last Friday and went back to work on Monday. I have five kids so I have had no time to slow down but I am refusing to lift anything like she told me not to over 30 pounds. I am definitely going to get the shot soon to prevent from it happening again third time. Thank you for sharing your story.

They did a fricken uterine biopsy in the office without numbing meds?? WTAF. Why is that even considered a good idea?!
I recently had a colposcopy and the biopsy she did of my inner cervix was highly uncomfortable. I can't imagine anything going in further. Omg. I was shaking too.

I have heard that some ladies return to work in a couple of days and others it can take up to 4 weeks. What was your experience?

Last year my pap smear was fine, I'm 66 years old. This year, I've been having cramps like I'm going to have a period. So I went to see my gynecologist. They did an ultrasound, and found a mass in my womb. Did a biopsy and it's not good. I have squamous high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (p16 positive, CIN-3). So I had a pap smear and it seems that it's abnormal cells but not quite as bad as in the womb. I'm scheduled to have a leep, and I've already told them that I am already very squeamish and I don't think I can do it without being put under. I could hardly take the biopsy then when they went up way inside of me. I came up off the table. But there's another side to this. I have numerous spots in my lungs, so I'm getting that checked out to see if they're related. Not a smoker. I'm going to back out. Unless they give me something. I told them I can't even go to the dentist without IV sedation. You all got me really freaked out. Hope you all get better.

Thanks so much for posting this. Could you maybe explain more about what it was like to get put to sleep? This is the part that freaks me out!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

    • @emilyshaack

When you get into the OR, everything happens so fast! You lay on the table, and a million people start working around you, putting blankets on you and hooking up your IV. For me, i went from awake and saying bye to my doctor to instantly asleep. There’s no way I could’ve stayed awake if I tried. They give you the drugs to knock you out through an IV so you don’t even realize jt. Once I was out, I was out. No dreaming, nothing. And waking up in recovery feels like waking up from a groggy nap still drunk.
      It’s not bad at all.

Traumatized is the word i would use for my leep procedure. My Dr did not suggest any medication beforehand, and i felt extreme pain as soon as he pulled me open with the extra large speculum. I also felt every cut as continued to remove 3 areas, going 2 cm deep. Then the smoke and smell of my insides burning. What can i say? Ive had 2 babies and that was much easier . The reason they don't put you under is becasuse it "only takes 10 min. " Another lie.

I know you’re praising your dr but I think she went overboard making you worry about polyps too on top of the LEEP. Polyps that are not painful often resolve on their own. And generally don’t need to be messed with. My periods were irregular for over a decade until I had my first baby and ever since then they’ve been very regular. She went overboard in my opinion.
