StarmenRock I don’t really care so much about the pk thunder color really, but I do wish Ness used Rockin’ / Kiai in someway or form. I’m happy with the way ness turned out though. As some one who has Main’d and earthbound character six 64
Dat0n3 GuYD0uGH People get hella mad when they get trapped with PK fire or juggling with PK thunder and Up air. But the move that gets them to the roof is getting killed by a PK rocket, they never expect it
PK Fire is one of the best side bs in the game (both lucas and ness) and its salt inducing In my opinion Lucas' is better because you can stage spike and edgeguard with it, and it can neutralize other projectiles
PK Lucas Agreed, it definitely packs the knockback utility, whereas Ness' game utilizes stall and trapping to set up for grabs. I don't know if it's better, but does suit a different style.
2 things that weren’t in the video. 1. If you down air as you land you will have no landing lag at all, but you have to land during the down air otherwise it won’t work. 2. If you Full hop and buffer a bit fire you can land the pk fire on top of the opponent which makes it harder for them to DI out of, and if you buffer it you will have time to do a down air as you land and have no landing lag. So it’s essentially a lagless pk fire.
I’m a ness main and I actually learned lot from this. I used to always guarantee a back throw at 130% but sometimes it wouldn’t consistently kill and this helped.
@@IAm-zo1bo I once used only Ness' neutral B (Psi shield(also Ness' weakest offensive attack option) to deal half of the damage neccessary to KO my opponent. (The other half was already damaged from previous attacks from my previous stock) once he neared the right amount of damage, I grabbed him and used Ness' backthrow which killed him. It was a really disrespectful play, but it is also pretty funny.
That double PK Thundrr thing is called PK Thunder Tech. I like to call it PK Thunder Beta, because in Earthbound, the Beta form is Just PK Thunder Alpha twice.
Ness is a degenerate now. He was actually fun in melee even tho he was low tier and project m but at least he required skill. He had cool double jump momenntum cancel tech and down b was like shine in project m. Now ppl just throw out pk fire and fair So fucking boring
Important to know (if I’m not mistaken) moves only stale if they’ve been used recently. I believe it keeps track of the last 9 moves you used and if the move you’re using is in that list then it’s stale. More stale the more times it’s in the list. So it’s fine to use back throw when the enemy is at 0 percent, because you’re going to use 9 moves before you want to use back throw to kill, and by that time it won’t be stale anymore.
For anyone wanting to know how to cheese your forward hops to make it sooo much easier to do, press the jump, and attack button at the same time. This will force a short hop and if you press a direction you can side hit
Honestly your Ness and Lucina videos for smash 4 were what led to me maining those characters in that game and in ultimate, you explain things fantastically and really make competitive smash enjoyable and relatively simple to learn, keep it up man.
When you grab don't immediately throw.... wait a split second to let the PK Fire damage do a bit more while hitting them. It will easily get you between 35-40% without the follow up damage.
Jesus Christ dude. I literally said to myself today “I hope Jtails releases a Ness guide” love ya bro. I watched you in that tournament against k.rool 👍
As a *seasoned* Ness main I can confirm these is a good video. Some things to add. If your opponent DIs upwards after the down throw it would be better to either follow up with an up air or just PK Thunder again into Up Air.
This is very useful it’s just one thing when I play with my friend if I use the pk thunder against him for edge guarding he’s gonna get all mad and be like stop spamming or something like that
I’ve been trying to Main Ness ever since playing EB, and thanks for helping me on my way to greatness Edit: D-Air on grounded opponents is stupidly good for smash attack combo’s (At low percents, use Side-Smash. High percent, use Up-Smash. Higher percents, use Ariels)

Interesting. That should help me a lot ; thank you - JTails. Anyway, I would have appreciated to see you cover ALL Ness' moves, such as D-tilt, D-air...

Awesome guide. One thing I don’t think you mentioned is the psy magnet, fast fall fair into grab combos. If you get the hit box on falling psy magnet, you can fast fall fair and upon landing it’s a guaranteed grab. It’s not even too hard to land.
In tournament they'll always be expecting the grab-downthrow-fair from the PK-fire. I like to either dash attack to get em in the air and chase them down with fair, or just run up and get the forward smash yo-yo underneath them to launch them upwards to follow up with upair or even pk thunder 2 if you have time.
PK Flash is an excellent edge guard for predictable recoveries (Dedede, Link, Kirby etc) it's safer than jumping out after them and is so deliciously disrespectful.
Here’s a little tip from a ness main, if you ever hit someone with a PK Fire off-stage, go for the spike!!! The amount of times I’ve done this against my friends is hilarious.

Yep lol
The sad thing is it’s actually true
How can you say that? The Little Mac's recovery is the best in the game! He can even recover when he isn't in the void!
