If only interviews of that quality were not censored from the mainstream "news" outlets.

Paul Beckwith is a hero - I've followed his UA-cam channel since it's inception about a year ago. I came to him through James Hansen, Michael Man and Guy McPherson. Thanks to Paul I am currently reading Naomi Klien's "This Changes Everything"

.that young man was a great interviewer. Paul is such a knowledgable guy with great ideas. Its scary that other climate scientists consider him an optimist who believes there is still hope.

the problem about talking about global warming is that it doesn't say anything about what amount of extra energy that is looked into the global climate system i.e the ocean and what that energi will do in the climate system, disasters of enormous scale especially when it comes to the crops world wide.

Vote Monty: Yes, lots of times. And there is no way for US to stop it from changing again. We cannot even significantly modify the timing or outcome. So, move to higher ground. Invest in lead. Learn to produce your own food. Get a water system developed. Buy a wood stove. Sharpen your axe.

This is so shallow. Co2 does make a difference but only a little. The problem is much more complicated and the sun and the magnetosphere are central.

Great job! Very good interviewer and very clear answers/opinions from Mr. Beckwith! There is explanation for everything, even very complex ones.. Different story if it's "out" there. For ex. why other scientist are not so worried. How does that relate to abrupt distribution of wealth and so on. Wouldn't be so worried about extinction. Like Mr. Beckwith pointed out; There is numeral solutions that could be utilized immediately. The catastrophe is happening right now. There is no time for huge amount of people to adapt. Related to what Mr. Beckwith assumed: Something to do with psychology. Everybody who understand the immediate need for action should do what is in their power. For ex. try to affect your local community to utilize cleantech(or your husband or wife..:), or anybody. Help younger people to understand some realities concerning the matter etc. Do not expect to people to understand for ex. that everything what Mr. Beckwith pointed out. Still can do some good!

+Robusti09 Also to as many people as possible to survive(the amount of people is not as big of a deal that is assumed in general) coming multi-catastrophe, we can not start to blame the people that we think are "most responsible" of this state of the planet. Recent history shows this; For ex. South Africa's truth commission is one example. Constructive action instead of pointing fingers to each other.

Robusti09: What catastrophe are you speaking of? The slight increase in worldwide CO2 has greened up a lot of acreage and improved crop yields in the last 10+ years. What is the problem with that? Remember, ChickenLittle was wrong. And what we need is more NUCLEAR energy along with continued use of gasoline, diesel, natural gas, and propane to continue our lives onward and upward.

    We are well above .85°C!!!
Starting from 1880, we are at 1.06°C of warming
Starting from 1750 we are at 1.26°C of warming

+A. Randomjack You are right! And there are many estimates on the number of plants and animal species being killed by humans everyday, but the lowest I have seen is 150 species per day. So the McPherson figure of 200 species a day is a realistic number. And let us not forget the 400 tons of radioactive water pouring into the Pacific Ocean everyday from the defective Fukushima nuclear reactors, and the large hole in the ozone layer over the South Pole caused by the Chlorofluorocarbons and Nitrogen Oxide that people are putting into the atmosphere. It‘s a nightmare!

Good job Paul. Please write a book for the public, we need to get going with solar radiation management to buy some time. Otherwise civilization is toast. It looks to me like the climate refugee population is exploding. As Lester Brown points out, nations are failing, when too many fail we won't be able to keep the global economy running properly and all bets are off.

wespeakforthetrees: Right, not many will survive. I own at least a dozen chain saws and I never met a tree I would not cut down for the right reason. Trees are a natural resource provided for Man to make use of. I suppose you live in a building that has no wood in it. I guess you wipe yourself with who knows what?

We are running out of time to fix the climate without having to use extreme measures. Climate science indicates that even if the world started an aggressive conversion over to clean energy production today it would take about 40 years to get off fossil fuels , in that amount of time the GHG concentration will have reached about 600 ppm CO2 equivalent resulting in an increase in global temperatures of about 3.0 degrees C , a temperature increase that could have catastrophic consequences. So even with a world wide effort to convert to clean energy , because the world's nations have not taken the necessary actions to reduce CO2 emissions from fossil fuels , we will still face serious consequences from global warming.

    • @HaroldBrice

Allaric Harosyn: There is really no such thing as clean energy. Getting bogged down in what-ifs and maybes is a total waste of time.
