What I Miss About Working At Accenture (vs Google!)

- Accenture and Google are both great companies to work at, but there are some things that Accenture just does better in (in my opinion) than Google that I kind of miss! These are all subjectively my opinion, and my opinion only and I had a great experience at Accenture and currently have a great experience at Google, but when my boyfriend Addison mentioned this as a potential video idea, I thought this would be fun!

What are your thoughts on using external systems or internal systems in your company? Let me know in the comments down below!
my condolence to your partner.
Condolences for what?
@@ChristineWong coz he or she has to handle the stress being with you.
I’ve helped my partner get a job triple his prior salary, we bought a condo together, and run an extremely profitable business together. Would he have married me two months ago if I truly was “stressful?” What have you done with or for your partner? I would love to know.
I’m just such a great catch 😎🪭. I already put the ring on it so not all that bad 😂. All jokes aside, we balance each other pretty well and I support her creative ventures!
Great insights! Thank you so much! II am in the process of applying to Accenture now and your advice helps! I too appreciate streamlined processes.
:)
I’m glad my advice helps! Thanks for watching!
I think the external/internal systems question can expand to external/internal efforts too, e.g. bringing in agency/consulting services - and you're right about the engineering culture - in my last job at a retail firm, our team almost took it personal when the business wanted to bring in consultants to fast track some new 3rd party tool integration.
To our team, we didn't need the tool and certainly not consultants, as we had the skills to create all the features.
We just needed approval to dedicate our whole efforts on the project and forget about all other work. Easy as that, right?
For my VP the answer was clear, they wanted the functions now and not 6 months in the future, and the seemingly hefty bill is nothing to the business.
From the consulting angle, I like how our teams at D try to be a solution partner and not just a system integrator, and that the build vs buy analysis is an important part when talking with clients.
Maybe you can be the one to bring changes to Google, but hey hope you are having a good time still :D
Hahahaha, thank you for your insight! I can definitely see that happening across all these types of companies! Interesting to see how you had that experience at a retail firm!
Your description of Google aligns with my friend says who works there also. Tbo… I feel the chaos there makes it easier for folks to hide and keep a nice paycheck if you know how to navigate the system. Google having an engineer focus internally is very true.
I think it’s actually pretty easy to do that in many large organizations to be honest and you’re absolutely right! It’s easy to hide because of all the chaos! 😹
Interesting thoughts. The friends aspect in particular, makes a lot of sense. I’ve been at Accenture for a little bit over a year now, and the people are key to what makes them a great place to work. Hope you’re still enjoying Google though. Thanks for the video 🙂
At the end of the day, Google is a product company whereas Accenture is services oriented. When you have an issue with Workday you can't solve, you can just create a case and punt it to WD to deal with it. For a company like Google, the buck stops with them in figuring stuff out because it's ultimately their product.
Yup, it’s inevitable being a product based company! Or even engineering focused.
Slightly unrelated question, would you consider «Technology Strategy & Advisory» in «Strategy and Consulting» at Accenture more management consulting or Technology consulting?
That’s definitely more management consulting, but there are crossovers into technology consulting sometimes.
An interesting take, I thought Google had a salary compromise for completely remote work?
Also, surely you'd be more comfortable using a custom tool developed by experts in-house vs. a generic tool which needs to be tweaked ?
I agree that if a custom tool was executed with the same energy, expertise, and time as companies that specialize in those tools, Google can definitely do it, but to be honest, we prioritize building external systems rather than internal systems because it benefits more people like customers and moves the needle more for revenue, so internal systems still get neglected!
Regarding salary compromise for completely remote work, I haven’t heard about that but I do know there are some roles that can be 100% remote but my role isn’t because of how collaboration and client facing focused it is!
@@ChristineWong Yeah that makes sense. I'm a big fan of efficiencies and creating such systems so I may have to revaluate a big tech move ahha
whats your exit opportunities from google?
Honestly it’s endless! It really does depend on your role but in my particular role, anything client facing is pretty fair game but now my role is more technical and product focused that I could go into a more technical or product focused role as well. I could also go into the advertising and retail industry too being the nature of the role!
It sounds like Accenture or a company run the same way would fit better. Does Google mind videos like this one with current employees? Engineers by training are precise but it sounds like your educational training is quite different in focus. Friends matter and virtual friendships do take more effort. Could u go back to Accenture? Happily these are very first world programs!! Hope they work out!
Google doesn’t mind as long as we don’t share internal only or confidential information! I would go back to Accenture potentially for the right opportunity at a much higher compensation than what I’m getting at Google. As of now, my total compensation at Google is way higher than at Accenture!
I will say though that a lot of tech companies do not have much training for engineers whether it be a startup or big tech. Accenture’s focus is on certifications in some ways and those have structure but majority of the “training” is still experiential and not precise.
@@ChristineWongVery cool!! 🙂
You miss accenture. Who would miss a sweatshop company like accenture?
My experience actually wasn’t remotely close to a sweatshop!
I started a career with Accenture in 2004 and I still miss it. There was a lot of long hours and whole nights but people that I worked with have become friends since until now.
Accenture had super smart and cool people! I can see how that would be. I’m glad you had a rewarding experience!
