Heavy D needs a Chinook helicopter for recovery
i wonder if anyone makes air lockers for the hemet axles.
Y’all are a spectacular group of guys. Your “no trash in MY backyard” attitude is one to be copied and admired by more people in this country. Because of this I started doing the same thing around my own neighborhood in Ohio. I don’t have the equipment to recover and remove abandoned cars, but the day before yesterday I was thinking of y’all as I picked up boxes (7) of trash and old clothes that someone either tossed or lost out of their vehicle. Thanks so very much for all you do, and for the inspiration to get me to stop and clean up a mess someone else left on my road. Keep up the great work and keep your tremendously inspiring videos coming.

Sad that here in America that we have so many people that just dump trash everywhere. As here in America we have land fills to properly dispose of this stuff. We are not like third world countries where land fills are not easily accessed.

Having a cool boss makes it nice too! Heavy D keeps a cheer full outlook and demeanor even when things go sideways. I learned working in commercial aviation that "nothing is ever easy". Seems like every job takes twice as long as I think it should. My car is never fixed until I have pulled every tool out of the tool box. Lately I have figured out a way to save time fixing my car..... I open every drawer in my tool box then just kick it over spilling out every tool I own on the ground. Since implementing this practice my car and other projects are done in half the time! 🤪

Thank-you for sharing the work of our military vehicles. The main star in the this video is probable older then most of the people helping to get this vehicle into its bed. Also still making it look easy. I remember working on them over thirdly years ago , still a beast today. Thanks for putting a smile on my face (Operation desert shield through storm vet.).

@@TheVenom8343 some do, the trucks came in many different versions. Some where fuel trucks and he doesn't have the version that was a actual recovery vehicle. Not much you couldn't pull or recover from being stuck. Only time I ever saw one of the recovery vehicles stuck was trying to recover a bulldozer stuck in deep mud.
By far my new favorite UA-cam channel. I’m a disabled veteran that lives in Florida. I’m not as active as I used to be but now I can enjoy watching you guys having some crazy fun times. Would love a day with you guys just having fun. I miss the comradeship that I had in the military. You guys are great. Keep up the great work.

Hunter is 100% the MVP and probably not on just this recovery. HeavyD was probably staying warm drinking coffee and eating caviar crapes while he sent Hunter out to fix everything. 😂

In my humble opinion, Hunter always is. He seems to be a great mechanic, and a superfunny guy.
It seems like a heavy lift helicopter should be in your recovery vehicle arsenal since you can fly them and always end up in crazy recovery areas that the big rides have a hard time reaching.
I think if he did that he would probably wind up losing a lot of money because cars really aren't that expensive if he's even able to scrap them and without a title or a mechanics lean and he shouldn't even be able to sell it in
@@benjaminsmith6800 True, but then again, they basically do this as a civic service, for free. And Dave has the hangar space and pilot's license already, so he wouldn't have the overhead cost most people do.

The point of these recoveries is the content for UA-cam. Come in quick with a helicopter would get pretty boring really fast.
@@Lochlann13 he mentioned in his last flying video that the helicopter he had flown was newer and he had something else that he couldn't reveal but maybe a HD copter.
What you're saying about overhead doesn't make any sense, you always have it regardless if you have the license and hanger already. You pay bills every month to have a hanger and aviation license the overhead doesn't just disappear. Dave has what most people don't because he's willing to go further than most people ever will.
Whoever edits these is my favorite. All the little pop culture clips inserted make the videos so much fun to watch.
Can’t beat a hemmitt!! I remember several years ago while I was in the military, the ammo guys brought us a Hemmitt full of 4.2 mm mortar rounds down range in FT. Knox.. It was quitting time for them so they left the Hemmitt for us to unload. My Staff Sergeant asked the driver if he left the keys in it in case we needed to move it.. of course he did.. So we unloaded it, got the sides put back up and ate chow.. just as the sun went down, without saying a word to anyone, Staff Sergeant walks out to the Hemmitt fires it up… Then proceeds to do his damndest to cut the best doughnuts possible in such a big machine.. about half way around his first doughnut every single com-phone each of us had in our 113’s just ripped right out the back of or tracks.. as he finally starts getting it into a full spin, all you could see under the Hemmitt was our com-phones wrapping all around the driveshaft!! Freakin hilarious!! Next three hours were spent cutting all the com-wire from around the axles, driveshaft etc… great memories!! Thanks guys.. Stay blessed!!

I love your videos. Being from a heavy haul trucking background and many years of off-road recovery’s/adventure I would say next time instead of alternating chains I think you would benefit front chaining up the front four steers and leave the rear naked if you only have four total chains. Utilizing the surface area in all one area might have made the difference in making it up without issue. All scenarios are different but that is my two cents. Great job on overcoming the challenges and getting the job done. Another great job!!

Suggestion: Have someone run the VIN number, locate the owner and dump that truck on their front lawn. That would be a fitting punishment for abandoning the vehicle on someone else's property.
What if the owner died?

I love it when things go sideways and you have to find a way around it to get the job done. You can do anything with the right attitude, tools, equipment and a ton of grit. You and your team have all of the above. Great recovery!👍
@Omar Zahir I have not responded to the message or dialled the number via What’s App. Why would Heavy D not ask us to respond through UA-cam since this is where the video was posted. I had this happen back in early January as well on another video. I checked the area code attached to the What’s App numbers and they both showed as originating in Texas. Last time I checked Heavy D lives in Utah not Texas.
I’d honestly love more Heavy D driving lessons. I knew the whole snow thing but it was still a cool little bit that I think you guys could do more often.
Perhaps he could make some training videos. Seriously I want my kids to see this as they are learning to drive. (Goodness knows they don’t always listen to me.)

There is a heavy rubber insert for those wheel & tires that are an internal bead locker. Pain in the rear to put in but worth the effort if you need to air down. Would suggest getting the axle interlock fixed too, not having lockers really hurt y'all on this one.
when you put that vehicle in Low 1 & engage the 8x8 axle interlock, all the power & torque from that Detroit Diesel gets split between all 8 tires
i know from experience, & that motor has enough torque to snap the driveshafts and the u-joints

Hey guys watching from Pennsylvania here. I love your videos, they have great energy and you guys have lots of drive. Im only 28, hut after a back injury and surgery in 2016 I haven't been able to do many of the things I enjoy due to pain. But your videos give me the drive to get out and do the things I love and keep pushing on even with all of the pain. Keep up the great content. I hope to get the chance to meet you one day or help out on a recovery. :)

I said no to the surgery. Living with it and know my limitations. I know just where you're coming from.
Keep pushing. Disabled at age 27, find your limits, scale back a little, keep moving.
Unfortunately not from PA but I am right next door to you guys in New Jersey. I'm 44 years old going on 45 and may believe me I know all about back injuries. I hurt my back thoracic spine is all herniated my cervical spine is all bulging my lumbar is completely destroyed my facet joints are squashed I have phenomenal narrowing of the spinal canal also have sciatica down both sides left and right have to go for double knee replacements and also had a heart attack in 2019 which was the Widowmaker 2% survival rate. Keep on pushing you can do it I do it every day I'm in severe pain I have no feeling in my feet my fall over to keep on going man. I say to myself there's always somebody out there worse than I am and that's what gets me going every day and keeps me going every day. If any of you guys need to talk or have nasty thoughts in your head please reach out to me don't ever hesitate I'm here to help anybody that I can I've lost too many people that sucks I don't need to lose any more even though I don't know you we're all family
I’m in Ohio at 31 I can tell you you have to know your limitations, I have 2 disks in my lower back that are rotated from being a mechanic for 10 year professionally 17 years total and sciatica in my right side and Carpel tunnel in both wrist , just keep pushing and tell your self this a body in motion stays in motion, a body at rest stays at rest . There will come a day you can’t /won’t wanna move anymore that’s when you get surgery until then just keep pushing even if stuff takes longer then it use too still accomplish what you wanna do. Also diet and exercise help with the pain and good sleep
Awesome how you guys are putting all your equiptment and man power together to help everyone out and clean everything up. You said it well at the end, help people, clean the environment and make cool content. Im on board for it all and i do a little of that myself when needed like everyone should. If everyone gets behind it, it could be endless. Good work boys
Having a loyal crew with a sense of humor makes the job so much easier. I enjoy the well edited videos. I have a suggestion as far as playing in the snow. Since you seem to have an unlimited budget for machinery, get a used logging skidder or 2 with a good set of tire chains. Skidders have miles of cable on powerful winches and are designed specifically for pulling huge loads over rough terrain in deep snow and mud. If it was to have an old Detroit 2 cycle so much the better. There would be great sound effects.

Well I have finally caught up with most of the recovery videos and I have one suggestion that has worked for me. You usually carry a welder, now I know they are cumbersome but sheets of 4by8 1/16 or possibly 1/18 steel can be chained or welded under what you are pulling and will help slide and float heavy objects. You guys are absolutely a blast to watch and I have done alot of similar recoveries. So it may help sometime. Can't wait for more!

Build some skid plates. Curve them up at the end so as they don't dig in the ground happy days.
It does seem sometimes they're trying a dead pull without completely clearing a smooth path to Winch out..
I think this may be why they snap so many cables....
Still all a learning curve good entertainment...

Its crazy to me how the EPA came after you even though ya'll seem to do more to keep the state clean than the EPA itself. Utah is my all time favorite state I've driven through in my trucking career and Im happy that you take this kind of stuff so seriously.
You explained it right there, they are doing a better job of keeping the state clean than the EPA. the EPA can’t have heavyD showing them up and making them seem like the useless money sucking morons that they are
My brother Tim retired not too long ago as a master tow operator and we feel as you do that those who just abandon their junk and cars are despicable.

This is a video I can definitely appreciate it reminds of all the times I have to tell people who don’t regularly deal with ice you can have 8wd ice is still ice & has to be treated accordingly….for some reason people think “I have 4wd no problem” 😆 chains really help to bite in so you can go or more importantly stop & not have your rig just slide away from the road/trail great job as always!
4 wheel drive really just means 4 wheel slip on ice in most cases.

You'd think being 8x8 they would be hard to get stuck but they get stuck going up a slight incline on wet grass lol. They're good trucks though.
Why though? Are they just to heavy? Are the tires of these things not grippy enough? It surely cant be a lack of power, can it?
In a scenario like this the tires are too open and unsiped. A hair better than a tractor tire which is worthless in these conditions. A winter tire is usually designed to be fill the sipes with snow to be used as snow on snow traction

It’s almost like a rollagon, too much surface area to put enough pressure down on the ground, best to have a pretty good balance between weight and surface area for grip
@@vVBrownieVv Its in part because of the style of suspension they are built with. It just has some limitations on the articulation of each wheel in relation to the others. It is meant to have more than say an 18 wheeler...but anything that big and meant to carry as much weight as a HEMTT...is going to have it's limitations. Its a badass rig either way...they were pushing it to it's limits for sure.

Love the videos, teamwork and enthusiasm! I always get a good laugh and learn something. To get out of some of those slick spots in the future might I suggest... Learn how to do a Detroit slingshot brother (not with chains, just air down). As you know, those trucks can store a ton of torque in their drive line. It's a power brake without spinning out. Half throttle while holding the left foot on the brake (yeah it's a tight fit with the column lol). You will feel the truck torque load. Hammer down and when the throttle pedal hits the floor let off the brake. Stay in the throttle until you are on top. I'm asking you brother... please don't use the crane for winching. Your luck will run out and the boom and/or cylinders are bent or torqued and you can't stow the crane. I'm not telling you what to do with your own toy but I've seen this happen many times over and it's not a fun or cheap fix. Any way, thanks again for taking us along with you on all the adventures. Stay safe.
What you recovery, UA-cam guys do for the environment and stranded people deserves so much more credit then you get. Especial when you do it for those reasons. I love the "Can Do" and never even thinking about giving up. This is what is so captivating with your videos. The only problem I have with you all, is Pennsylvania is a long way away, or this old Vet, (former Medic/Engineer) would give you all a hand. We had M88 ARVs!

I was a 91B in the army and I’ve worked on all the military vehicles you own. Its funny watching them brake on you all the time because that’s what they do.
I did recovery in the army too. Between recovery any fixing all the redlined vehicles, we never had a slow day.

I always enjoy these videos they are so entertaining Good job guys
when you end up spinning out on an icy hill like that put it in reverse and try not to lock up the brakes and just try and give enough throttle to keep traction yet not go any faster than you have to. It seems wrong to do but trust me ... it helps you keep your ability to steer and helps keep from shinning up your tire tracks any more than you have to in a hill. in my 16yrs of hauling oversized off-road heavy haul, I've got a few more close calls than I care to remember going downhill backward with over 200k lbs behind me. The first winter I was lucky to have a few seasoned drivers teach me that and it has saved me many times.
As for spinning, you are right but the biggest reason you don't want to spin with chains and let it hop is it is torture on your drive train. each hop of the tire basically slaps the gears inside your axles back and forth on each other and makes it easy to strip and snap gears. Imagine everything turning one-way and then in a blink of an eye, every gear forced the opposite way but many times back and forth at once. it makes it very easy to find out how expensive rear end and transmission parts cost.

Done the walk of shame myself. Got a 4-wheeler stuck in a mudhole. Walked back to the shop, got the boss. Drove a bigger tractor out there, managed to get that stuck, too. We both did the walk of shame.

I don’t get the abandon vehicle thing. Don’t you guys have metal salvage yards in your area? Wouldn’t it be the same amount of effort to take it to a salvage yard and sell for a few dollars of scrap metal as it would be to dump in the woods?
I love that you guys are out helping clean up our mountains. Nothing worse then seeing people's junk left behind.

@@sinexityyy The biggest real world problem is then it would then have LESS "compaction" to borrow from my ag field. The reason we use tracks is to have less psi to the soil, , putting tracks on this HEMTT would likely make it worse off for this specific scenario. Again, we would end up with a tractor lug and they are just absolutely trash in a slick condition like this. However, maybe it could've drove through some fresh snow to the side if the incline wasn't too great. I agree with a previous poster and nominate a Chinook helicopter to be added to the fleet.

I knew I recognized that Raptor! Last Saturday on the backside of the B area we passed a big black Ford raptor with a body kit and a light bar. As we squeezed by each other on the trail I remarked how the driver was dressed and looked identical to HeavyDSparks, I was watching a video and saw that same black Raptor ! I'm confident we had passed by him on a trail!
The comedy screen effects and music take your videos to the next level of entertainment. Cuz this could easily be boring without some comic relief sparkled in. Good job

I was trained on and operated my own HEMTT while in the Army for several years and every video you do with it makes me smile and miss it even more. Unfortunately most of my family has passed away now, my son's older and my sister married and has her own life and family. So it's kinda just me as recently lost my best friend, my Boxer... I'm utterly lost in life and don't feel I've found my purpose or am living up to my potential.

We call that freeze/thaw surface of the unplowed snowpack "greased owl " the MOST slippery time of the day here in the shady valleys of Colorado from October to June. Now you really know that patience and procrastination might be symbiotic behavior. Older and wiser, no one got hurt, excellent warning to others seeing what can happen with equipment on snow. The problem is using that tiny HEMTT to recover a huge Jeep Cherokee, you should use a bigger truck like a Terex 33-19, and save the HEMTT for smaller jobs like recovering Bicycles. :)
I was surprised that you didn't use a block to winch th3 jeep away from the bushes, the angle looks different on Cameras so it's hard to call from the warm seat in my house in the UK. Always great to watch

I really wish y’all would have been around in 1979 when my family got stuck in Utah on a Sunday with a broken Airstream trailer. It took 3 days before we could find someone to help us and by then my dad had taken a hatchet to the tire lug nuts that had been welded on. I was 7 at the time and remember how mad dad was that no one would stop to help out our young family. My sister was 5.
My self and my buddy Jim would love to have your equipment when we were younger. We were in the housing part of construction painting was our main occupation but you learn how to recover equipment from mud. Even we didn't have the equipment we offered our knowledge after years of being in the traide

1 thing you need is the run flat ring that go inside the tire so you can deflate them and air them up with no issue. But where you went wrong with the starting fluid is fold the air hose to pinch it off then spray the either and light it. As soon as you light it let go of the hose. The air leaking out is just blowing the vapor from the either out which is what does the trick. Also warm up the can if you are able so you have more vapor than liquid. Trust me I have been changing tires on equipment for 39 years including military trucks.
