There was Fats Waller before, there are singers like him today. We just don't hear them so much anymore. He in particular was one of the honest ones; his sort of personality doesn't fit with the music industry's short-term profit and strict idea of what 'sells' today.
@trentoncarpenter5297 That's not the song he started singing, though.. He went into "I'm In Love Again" after he played a little bit of "The Fat Man."
This brings a tear to my eye, but also a moment of laughter too, when he stopped playing 'Blueberry Hill' to ask for money? Priceless. There will never be another R&B piano player as charismatic as him.
That second rendition of Blueberry Hill just hits different. At 1:40 it almost seems he's lost in the music, then looks up and remembers he's got an audience, and breaks into the classic Fats smile.
Fats Domino is the original “Founding Father” of Rock and Roll. His first song was released in 1949, “The Fat Man” and became a million selling record. Fats really started the Rock and Roll movement. Even Elvis Presley said Fats is the real King of Rock and Roll.
A good man and a great musician. And a trailblazer besides. I still listen to his music to this day, including the early Imperial recordings. He's timeless. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Fats I miss you so much , I cried to take a pic with you I was only 5 in 1975 but I knew all the music from 1949 including your first album .... I never got to meet you later in life ..I miss you and your music . But I can honestly say this little Hispanic can sound exactly like you .
My parents used to put me on a table when I was 2 years old and let me dance to Fats! I still have that awesome rhythm instilled in my DNA. I think all small children should be exposed to good old rhythm & blues. It has been my solice in many happy & sad times! Thankyou Fats for being all that....cool.
Jerry Lee Lewis was a significant presence but it was Fats who was responsible for Louisiana music taking it's rightful place in rock 'n' roll history.
That's beautiful I've got a picture with him in Reno in 1975 I cried to take a picture with him because he was a hero to me is music help me escape the bad things that were happening when I was growing up when I met him he said I was too young to know fat man from 1954 and I proved it by singing he played the piano and I sang the songs just the intro of the songs and he could not believe that I was that young and knew all those songs he was definitely one of the best and will definitely be missed greatly
God has blessed all of us with this amazing and talented man . He will live in the hearts of those like myself that love him for bringing he songs to the world . One of the few people I would love to meet and talk with about his life . God bless him and you for sharing this video .
This Papa is so marvelous that when he plays I open my mouth and I can't close it.These good hands are passing and sadly they don't have replacements, people that can play like them.
82 years old and playing that piano like he's 32. Awesome. They will never be another Fats.

@@cantdothis6899 He was born in February of 1928, so he actually was 82 when this was filmed.

This is absolutely insane, the father of rock and roll is playing for fun. I love it
This is amazing footage. He never lost the magic.
still seemed to love playing too which is great to see
Such a down to earth guy for someone who changed music.
Yes, great persona - good karma and it came through in his music. Reminds me of Louis Armstrong. Warm and graceful.
When he starts playing Blueberry Hill again and hums the intro then smiles is my favorite part.
wow....wish he'd made a solo piano record back in the day - he was one of the last, original new orleans piano masters.
Ditto, Doc...wish he had, too
FATS WAS A WONDERFUL PIANIST. SUCH A MULTI-TALENTED GENTLEMAN. GOD REST YOUR SOUL, KIND SIR!!!!

This video makes me want to cry. Why can't we appreciate music like this in 2021? This man is one of the best!
Agree! Even in 2024 as well!

82, on a regular home piano at home with no back ups and still sounded great! R.I.P. Mr Domino
when he plays blueberry hill and hums the lyrics it feels so nostalgic for some reason.
With all the greats their music is totally individual ; as with Fats..there is only one. Wonderful performer I have enjoyed since 1957.

Real talent is hard to find, but not in the case of Fats Domino. His songs are as fresh and fun today as they were in the 1950s.
