Mark: You're amazing! Everything you said about the vulnerability of Africans who live overseas and are trying to build something back in their countries is true. But my shock came when I realized that some of these Africans are using you to check up on their projects! That is brilliant. It's a win-win situation. Why? Precisely because you can be trusted. Hey Mark! Love your initiative, I have also been initiating in observing and been “project Managing” for people in the diaspora here in Zambia. Unfortunately it does get really expensive, as much as you’re trusted make sure you have a fee that you’re charging people to do so, as people end up expecting more than you can deliver (from personal experience) I have been doing my own project and showing people our journey, some reach out with good intent and others, for the sake of using and you do not want to have a situation where someone is not pleased with how much you can do, as we all know you are busy aswell at your place, and with your projects. Anyway love watching your videos, always something exciting, it’s as though we are in Tanzania with you! Lovely to see!👌🏾
My family originates in the middle east and these stories I see are similar. Be careful because there's bad everywhere on this planet. Africa isn't unique in negative, scammers are in every country on this planet. These labourers re usually lowly educated and talk bad just to pass their day, it's not malice. Just like a labourer on a building site in the countryside of Kentucky might talk without a filter. Praying for your success my brother

Mzungu - it depends on context. Usually it means white person/foreigner. But at times I guess it can sometimes be used to mock people (as was done in the video).
Muzungu mean a white man, from anywhere… but sometime in east Africa they refer to anyone who speak nothing but English as muzungu because the see English as muzungu’s language.. even in Uganda English = LUzungu..
My brother they didn't not spoke badly, but what they were talking about was that the owner of that area where there working for ?is a very big and respectful person until he sends someone from abroad to check the work being done. He seems to be a big person ??he is lying to us about the money when we try to ask from her?? That means she has money??and seems is a big person?were she is?that is what they were talking about, but they have not spoken badly.
They didn't insult the owner like you said. Nothing bad was said about the owner. They said the project should be so big that the owner (jamaa) asked you to go check it out. He then added "halafu mnalalamika hamna hela kumanina zenu". Which means "and you all complain that there is no money"kumanina zenu" He swore his colleagues not to the owner. The word “mzungu” is often used positively to refer to a white person. If a black person is well educated and keeps track of things like time, they also say that you are like mzungu.
Yes she has trust issues not upset over the word Mzungu or muzungu at all. Rightfully so because of how some are desperate to meet their needs to even do that to a family member.
Wrong is wrong and a lie is a lie. Some should be open about their issues instead of hiding. People need to learn how to properly communicate their needs. A closed mouth does not get fed and a proud soul goes hungry too.
Thanks Mark for being you! For not being shy about sharing with the world that it's truly okay to be an honest human being. Good people actually do prosper, inspire and succeed. Hey Mark, I am African Amer lady married to Nigerian. In Nigeria, at the Market, people were calling Me Oyinbo, which means white or light skinned foreigner in Yoruba. Over there in Tanzania they are calling you Mzungu, white foreigner. I will be going to Ghana soon & over there, I'm told they use the word Obroni, which means wicked white or wicked light skinned person or wicked foreigner !! If they call Me that, I will be prepared to insult them right Back !!!
I would recommend you do not react. People who feel the need to name call are looking for a reaction to prove themselves right despite their own actions. They will not usually look at what they did to get that reaction and the people around them who likely think the same will agree with them over you because they are likely thinking the same thing. You would only be making enemies. People will go through extrodenary lengths to defend their wrongdoings and many are not right in the head or heart so they will not see the mistake in their actions. I hope this helps but whatever you do, let it reflect how you want to be as a person. Be true to yourself. Do not let them make you like them if you are not. If negativity is not you desire, please don't let it be what you put off
@@markmeetsafrica How is it name calling. I feel it is disingenuous to project Idea that you are same as The locals based on skin colour . I now understand why the rich go for professional services! Those with fat wallets contract borehole digging services from big companies like Davis and Shirtliff (I believe they service the whole of East Africa). Then for construction they employ the services of medium and/or large contractors who give near-exact quotations and supervise from conception to actualization. Alas! Not all of us have that kind of money. So we have to rely on local labour and bear the brunt of substandard services coupled with insults (especially if you are a woman investor). It's what Mark calls people of low vibration...very difficult to deal with.
My husband was building his house and Bikina Faso and his brother was in charge over the project. The brother was taking his money and not paying people to build the home. He had to get a friend to finish it off.
Natives who are born on the land are sometimes called Mzungus if they travel away for a long while, as people do these days. In fact, those returnees often find themselves unaware of very sensitive stuff like where their father or mother or grandparents or loved ones are buried. Then, there are the occasional faux pas of unintended perceived insults of elders with words or actions or association. So, a native born can be called that word or any other equivalent, sometimes in praise or derision or insult. I know it is not a derogatory as you think. It is not the best flattery either even when it is used as such.... No black man wants to be called a white man and no native born of the soil wants to be called a foreigner or stranger or lost person. This is intended to elucidate... Don't come at me people.

Thank you for your honesty. They need a lot of healing. We do also but they need q different type of healing for their trauma. Many deny that they have any. With time, this will change. Dark things happened to the people over here during colonization. Darker than many of us could imagine and what we have now is the result of that trauma.
That "M" word, being called a "White Man", is insulting. It's the equivalent of a caucasian american calling us the "N" word, and saying, "Oh no no no! That's a term of endearment. It means we LIKE you!" smh. They're calling us that because they view us as black skinned with a white mentality. If you've ever met a white guy who grew up in the inner city, it's similar. "He LOOKS white, but he ACTS/IS black". Much of our principles, values, attitudes, and way of speech does, indeed, mimic the British/American ideals. We have nothing in common with Africans in any country on that continent because of where we were born and raised. Still, it's insulting. They know it and are gaslighting.
Three months and dig a well it's way too long when you can just pay $1,200 or $1,300 just to have a a borehole rig come and do it in one day now if you were doing it yourself and you didn't have to pay for the labor cost yeah that's fine I know what brother that actually dug his own well out but if you paying people to do it by hand the way they're doing it yeah that's that's way too much I would have just got a company that drills bore holes and had them do it
Hard working boys. Gotta give them that. If there was a machine ofcourse it would speed up the process and reduce excess human efforts.bless. Never mind it is a form of A Gym session.
Even if you tell and show some Africans back home the realities of the West.. they'll still be doubtful. They may even think you're trying to dissuade them from the west. To them the west is a total haven. (To be fair, their condition in Africa may be quite hard and so anything is equates to be better).
Them using the "N" word means they know you're from the race of the Israelites and they are Hamites. Don't under-estimate their knowledge of the history. Good that you understand thw native language.
The word mzungu is not an insult, and everyone who's from the western world is a mzungu because it can basically, also, differentiate an African of Africa and n AA of the USA, Canada, Australia etc. So don't assume you're being insulted, you assume too much, wrongly. Don't compare English to Swahili.
its like the "n" word. I hear people use the n word as a term of endearment (may it never be used towards me that way!) and then when theyre upset, they use it as an insult. Similar culture. Similar ways.
Mzungu isn't a bad word, they probably call you mzungu because you speak English like mzungu and may be because you gat lighter skin, but that doesn't mean they want to take money from you.
M - WORD MZUNGU MUZUNGU. You don't complain of (B word or N word )which is same thing. B&N are derogation and demeaning while M-Word is held as higher standard. Totally different from M -word. They are not insulting you. By M-word .

NAONA MAMA (Sofia) KAINGIA UBIA NA WATU, HALAFU MNALALAMIKA HAMNA HELA". = "IT LOOKS LIKE OUR PROJECT IS A BIG ONE, SO MUCH SO THAT THIS GUY (you, Mark) HAS BEEN SENT TO LOOK AT IT. IT LOOKS LIKE MAMA (Sofia) HAS ENTERED A PARTNERSHIP WITH CERTAIN PEOPLE, AND YOU'RE COMPLAINING THAT YOU DON'T HAVE MONEY." Then the workers say to the Supervisor "ALL OF HER KIDS ARE WHITE (Mzungu)." That's where the confusion of you being one of her kids sets in, but they conclude that you're not one of her kids. I don't know if her kids look white or not, but they certainly wouldn't confuse you for a White person. I can then only concur that they meant it negatively (and it's unfortunate to say that). I'm sorry you were subjected to it. Great video though! That new project management service sounds like a good idea! 👏👏👏😎

Mark, Great job with much insight in dealing with getting things accomplished
I'm observing. Also being educated of different cultures and languages watching your channel Mark. Thank you for your uploads.
Thank you for watching 💛🙏🏽🙌🏾
As always, great content and thanks for sharing!!! 💯
Mark, thanks a lot for exposing these idiots!
No problem. This behavior needs to stop and people need to realize that we are rhe same people who need to put our past behind and our passive aggressive tendencies aside to build a better future for the children who deserve better. We can be our own worst enemy and that shows us just how far we still need to go before we can help ourselves.
We love you Mark! Thank you for caring for us!
Thank you for watching 🙏🏽🙌🏾💛
Stay safe in all situations because in foreign countries, especially developing ones, desperation makes some folks do truly idiotic things which may affect your life. Praying for your success my brother
Where are you going? The scenery is beautiful.
“DRY SNITCHING”- Telling On Yourself.
Evidently; It’s UNIVERSAL 😮
That well they are digging was actually kinda deep 12 meters is like 40 feet or about 3 stories below ground with no safety equipment or support is really dangerous and crazy for the little pay I am sure they are getting
Mark! That is an excellent service. Time and time again I hear about projects that have gone ari because of theft from either the workers or family members. This is a new money generator for the diaspra or honest natives especially those familiar with construction to get into.
Hi Mark! I love your videos, I watch when I have free time. This statement is out of love and concern; Please consider wearing a protective type shoe, I'm a nurse, I've seen the damage done to unprotected feet/toes.....I realize it's HOT!!! Maybe a canvas sneaker type shoe....Anyway, please stay safe. I hope you feel my concern. Peace. 💖
Widening that income base. Good man.
hi mark whenever your going oa a project like this you should take another person with you for your safety
I agree with you and no you are not too old.
Mzungu means whiteperson. Which for locals thinks Mzungu is a rich dude!!! Mzungu=Money😂😂😂
Also A Rich dude. And many other attributes or characteristics😂
Your honestly right it's also the same thing in the carribean, cannot trust your families are friends.yep
I would appreciate an opportunity to chat with you directly about this service and grooming/working with local people who can assist in building this effort. Please share the best way for us to connect, sooner the better. Until then, may you always be open to hear the spirit that lead you to TZ.
Thank you for watching seeing it that way. And for saying💛🙌🏾🙏🏽
@@markmeetsafrica How can we get in touch with you to learn more about your efforts?
People who have no money talking about ppl who are building.....are they being paid with paper?
Do you have a video on how you learnt Swahili?
Not yet. I mainly just watched and learned what I could. Still picking up new words and terms to this day
I think you are bang on, you have to pay by job(task). no complete, no pay
Thank you Mark ✊🏾

Hey Mark, I am African Amer lady married to Nigerian. In Nigeria, at the Market, people were calling Me Oyinbo, which means white or light skinned foreigner in Yoruba.
Over there in Tanzania they are calling you Mzungu, white foreigner.
I will be going to Ghana soon & over there, I'm told they use the word Obroni, which means wicked white or wicked light skinned person or wicked foreigner !!
If they call Me that, I will be prepared to insult them right Back !!!
Not any Foreigner . English ones.
The fact you cannot tell the difference between yourselves and natives of the Africa countries shows your lack of integrity . Or not knowing yourself very well. Or plain lie that you do not know.
You are your own Tribe. Cry all you want. You cannot run from this truth.

Oh yeah Mark, it's not that serious to Me. I will just answer them back, with a Smile & keep it moving 😊
@@princessprincess7708 The english are hated everywhere and it would not be a good idea for them to come because the fake smiles does not work anymore and they have long memories and learning a lot from African Americans who are very protective and as for others Africa is changing fast and will not be the same when they wake up.
Will you please make a video letting us know when you will start offering consultations again?
Yes🙌🏾
Interesting video . Human nature is Universal for real.
Going to Zanzibar, the ride is smooth, but coming back against the wind was terrible. I threw up. My stomach was up side down

@Mark Meets Africa okay. Thanks. I will take note for next time
They are are global. Trust is like water in a desert. HARD TO FIND
I'll be contacting you soon. JC Bell..
The guide I had wife tried that on me talking about me in my face and thought I didn't understand
It's quite the thing to deal with
I just played like I didn't understand I may not speak the language but am good at reading people

My husband was building his house and Bikina Faso and his brother was in charge over the project. The brother was taking his money and not paying people to build the home. He had to get a friend to finish it off.
The greed. Untrustworthy is real issue
How often do you check on them? I know your being safe.Take care of yourself.
Just this time. There is now a new team working and it looks like progress has resumed.
Great video!
Mark talks like Barrack Obama 😅
I don't hear it but I keep hearing people say it. I may need to listen to a few of his speeches 😆

Thank you for your honesty. They need a lot of healing. We do also but they need q different type of healing for their trauma. Many deny that they have any. With time, this will change. Dark things happened to the people over here during colonization. Darker than many of us could imagine and what we have now is the result of that trauma.
Is South Africa bordered by the Atlantic ocean too?

What is the hourly pay for each worker in US $?
Three months and dig a well it's way too long when you can just pay $1,200 or $1,300 just to have a a borehole rig come and do it in one day now if you were doing it yourself and you didn't have to pay for the labor cost yeah that's fine I know what brother that actually dug his own well out but if you paying people to do it by hand the way they're doing it yeah that's that's way too much I would have just got a company that drills bore holes and had them do it
I got so sea sick on that ferry coming back to the mainland 🤮
It gets rough in the middle of the day. The smoothest trip is in the morning
Hard working boys. Gotta give them that.
If there was a machine ofcourse it would speed up the process and reduce excess human efforts.bless.
Never mind it is a form of A Gym session.
Don't speak then so they can be heard lol
Even if you tell and show some Africans back home the realities of the West.. they'll still be doubtful. They may even think you're trying to dissuade them from the west. To them the west is a total haven.
(To be fair, their condition in Africa may be quite hard and so anything is equates to be better).
I would buy my them men boots
Body cam and setup Merge to take over project if found to be faulty
Them using the "N" word means they know you're from the race of the Israelites and they are Hamites. Don't under-estimate their knowledge of the history. Good that you understand thw native language.
The word mzungu is not an insult, and everyone who's from the western world is a mzungu because it can basically, also, differentiate an African of Africa and n AA of the USA, Canada, Australia etc. So don't assume you're being insulted, you assume too much, wrongly. Don't compare English to Swahili.
They like to pretend they are of Africa while they are not pure enough.
They also like to feel insulted so they look for it anywhere.
Even in a plant chilling doing nothing.😂
How much is a lot in this area please
I did not ask
its like the "n" word. I hear people use the n word as a term of endearment (may it never be used towards me that way!) and then when theyre upset, they use it as an insult. Similar culture. Similar ways.
This is exactly how it works here. It is used in both ways. Many attempt to hide this

Mzungu isn't a bad word, they probably call you mzungu because you speak English like mzungu and may be because you gat lighter skin, but that doesn't mean they want to take money from you.
They using the N-word or M-word
M - WORD MZUNGU MUZUNGU.
You don't complain of (B word or N word )which is same thing. B&N are derogation and demeaning while M-Word is held as higher standard.

Starting at around 14:54 I hear the Supervisor say to the workers "INAONEKANA MRADI WETU MKUBWA MPAKA KAMTUMA HUYU MJAMAA (you, Mark) KUUANGALIA.

It's still kinda funny because....
Even if Mark didn't know the language....
They could still SEE that he was *RECORDING* them
😳😳
They were not saying anything ill about him.
They were acknowledging to themselves he is of western country. And possibly a child of the Boss they are working for. And as Mark said they thought he is The Boss SON and counted there are two more of her sons.
And also said they likes Muzungu.
