I still lament the lack of PoE 3
Not a fan of CRPG's so I'm happy Avowed exists.
Someday. If Avowed catch a lot of casual to the world of Eora, maybe Microsoft will warm up to the idea of cRPG, especially after Larian proven it could thrive.
We all do, friend. We all do.
@@theobell2002 Its unfortunate since youre missing out on some of the greatest games of all time BG 1-3 included
It's all good. Maybe we will see it again later
A fun throw away idea I had. You can't really choose how the Watcher did stuff but you do get to overhear conversations of people saying "I heard they did this, no I heard it was this way.". Basically, the stories people tell are basically arguments about which of the choices you actually made with no specific answer but still referencing the choices and the player gets to have the truth of their run for themselves.
I’m just glad they added 3rd person
The mushrooms in Deadfire said they weren't from the planet, so they wouldn't be effected by the soul sucking machine cycle. Probably wouldn't escape the out of control black hole though from Beast of Winter.
I have no memory of that. Time to do another run to talk to mushrooms.
I'm really curious to see how everything will tie together with the gods. I've always loved stories in games that are related to gods and ancient magic (Morrowind, PoE 1 and 2, and now Avowed). I hope they'll do something really weird and interesting, especially with this mysterious god that we're a Godlike of.
Hoping for Aloth and Edér for a third time!
I somehow missed Eder when I played POE 1+2. I really need to do another playthrough where I actually get him
@@theisaacpigg27_32 huh?
You've got to be a bot, dead internet and shit
At this point, we gotta have them in avowed. 3rd times the charm 😂
would be fun to see them in 3rd person even if they're just npc.
Avowed aside, I hope what sounds like illness passes quickly for you Mortismal, especially since I know how big February is this year with game releases in your ballpark. I am looking forward to your coverage and opinions!
Weather finally caught up with me
@@MortismalGaming I was down 13 days in december, and just had another 6 days here last week. I feel you, get well Mortismal!
PoE 2 was great. I hope Avowed makes that lore deeper.
Fungus godlike? Did the archmage that became a spore colony became a god?!
Very interested in this game, largely b/c it's Obsidian - I know nothing about this universe. Looking forward to your upcoming review, Mortym. Thanks!
they've had a decade of outright failure and bad games lol
@@imitenotbe yeah, last time i was hyped just because it was Obsidian i got let down by Outer Worlds. Felt small, easy, shallow but with a decent setting
Well, I spent the last 2 years in the ttw mod, mostly NV... I know NV is was a long time ago and many of those people gone.😔
@@imitenotbe in the last decade they released POE1-2, Tyranny which were great even if underrated. Never played Grounded so i do not have an opinion about it. Pentiment was easily the masterpiece.
Outer Worlds was the only "ok" game. Not the worst but definitely unmemorable.
So i do not think it was a decade of failure.
@@imitenotbeimagine saying that when Pillars 1+2, Pentiment, Tyranny, and the two South Park games exist.
I really enjoyed POE1 and POE2 (part two a bit more, even though I never finished all of the DLC), but I cannot remember for the life of me *anything* from the lore, lol.
I liked the lore in poe1, it got deep and engaging later in the game especially.
But poe2s lore was CRAZY COOL to me. I liked it far more than I thought i would.
Its not as good as tyranny’s but those two and fallout and mass effect probably have my favorite lore in rpgs. Those 4 are the games lore that i deep dove into. Elder scrolls and witcher may come after but im elder scrolls i think i only know it because ive played so much of it, not because its good. And with the witcher you kinda *have* to know the lore to play the game - plus its not super deep with gods and what not so thats not hard to keep up with. Dragon age is another but admittedly the bounced off it lore hard for whatever reason until late last year. Id played all of them and could never remember anything. After playing veilguard (I actually liked it, sue me) i had to refresh myself on the lore and replayed all 4 games again back to back and took an effort to take on the lore and liked it a decent amount.
But pillars lore actually goes crazy imo
I’m so excited to play this. The next few months are loaded with big game releases 🔥🔥
I look forward to this so much. Love that it looks a bit Elder Scrolls in style when using the spells and weapons. Skyrim is one of my absolute favorite games. I like Obsidian and have enjoyed their other rpg games over the years
Might be time I got around to finishing POEII.
I'm calling it, the fungus god is an elder god, starved of souls by the creation of the wheel and had to sleep.
Inquisitor Lödwyn is likely a Death Guard of Woedica now. There's a line by the militia captain in Avowed where she relays a rumor that Lödwyn "fell in battle in the Deadfire... and death spat her back out". In preview material, she's wearing a full mask to hide her features but has glowing eyes which would be consistent with previous portrayals of Death Guards.
Now that normal rebirth is no longer possible, Woedica is definitely the kind of goddess to not let a good and loyal servant go to waste.
Also, even if you solve the first encounter with Lödwyn in Deadfire without fighting her, she pronounces that returning to that room is a death sentence for you. But there is one more side quest in SSS and a Soulbound weapon upgrade that both require you to go back there, thus triggering the fight. So I reckon that the vast majority of players who encountered here have indeed killed her.
During Deadfire, if Castol does not retain the directorship, he's specifically banished to the Living Lands by the VTC board. That probably explains the island's name.
Finally, I have a theory on Avowed MC's god: Gaun.
Hear me out:
Clearly, Eothas was out of commission for a while after he got blown up in the Saint's War and it took time for him to take shape again. Assume, for a second, that when Eothas reformed and took control of the Adra colossus, the part of him that represented Gaun was left behind. That part instead made its home in the Living Lands and now, a good 20 years after being blown to bits, is also beginning to fully manifest again, possibly even causing the Dreamscourge.
Whether intended by Gaun or not, exploding Eothas/St. Waidwen resulted in his chime being implanted in the (then) fetal Envoy. That would put our MC in their early 20s by the time Avowed is set which seems reasonable. So now you're a Gaun Godlike, something that was previously impossible as Eothas' light had been overpowering. We know from Ondra/Ngati's Moon/Marine Godlikes that one god can have multiple Godlike manifestations.
Gaun has always represented the darker side of rebirth. The reaping to Eothas' sowing. Yet, rebirth is still part of him. Fungi are a good representation of that. New life creeping up from the old, expediting decay but also creating something new. I think that would be a fitting manifestation for Gaun's Godlike.
Of course, I might be entirely wrong. We'll learn soon enough.
Can't wait 🔥
“Aothas completely gaun” hehe ;)
Would love to see a “the story so far” recap of poe1/2 before release

oh that's the game i've been waiting for 2 years. Cannot wait for your whole 100% review
I’m so hyped!
One thing is for certain, I know I’m gonna have a stupid grin on my face hearing any references, no matter how minor or vague, to the legendary Watcher of Caed Nua. So many great memories! 😁
Would be amazing if Josh Swayer dream comes true and someday we can get a Pillars 3 with BG 3 budget
I would love to meet at least a companion or 2 from the previous games. And with Matt Mercer narrating these lore videos.... to me it seems really unlikely this will be all his involvement related to Avowed and Eder or Aloth won't appear in this game :)
Hmm, I expected bigger questions =)
Mine are:
1. What's the status of the Wheel?
2. What's the status of Eothas and the gods?
3. Will we see the monotheistic mortals hinted at with a shipwrecked guy?
He briefly commented on it at 1:23
My opinion- they'll only mention it and there wont' be any serious development. Avowed is only several years after the events of Deadfire if I'm not mistaken.
@@venelinstoyanov2300 I hope we either play a role in resolving the crisis or get to see how it’s resolved. The appearance of a new god and the new godlike has to be part of it, as we know the gods in Eora are artificial creations. A new god can't just appear out of thin air. I really hope this game explores fundamental aspects of the Eora world, just like the Pillars games did. If Avowed turns out to be just a side story while we wait for the slim chance of Pillars 3 happening, I will be so disappointed.
"3. Will we see the monotheistic mortals hinted at with a shipwrecked guy?" - Yes!!!
Soon, very soon. YEAH!
One thing is certain, I have 0 doubts that this will have one fantastic story. I dont even have any reservations on that. I don’t feel the need to keep expectations in check. This will have a great ass story. 💯
@@CJ-wh7ikSame writer as Pillars 1's DLC and all of Pillars 2, zero percent chance the story is bad.
@@CJ-wh7ik Its gameplay might end up being mid, but the story almost certainly won’t be.
@@CJ-wh7ik hater lol The worst thing anyone can do is actually take oral diarrhea like this as anything but being a hater.
@@FluffyThieves that's gives me so much hype because The White March has my favorite companion in the series so I am...very excited.
@@FluffyThieves absolutely
I really hope that we get another crpg in this series. The pillars lore is soooo good. Loved the first one, the second one felt a bit unfocused but was still amazing. Sucks theres no pillars 3
It will be an interesting adventure at the very least!
Avowed Anticipation UA-cam Jazz 🎶
I hope the game does good and they continue the POE universe alive
I hope the state of the wheel will not be ignored. I also hope we will see how Kith resolves the issue, or that we will have the opportunity to take part in resolving it. I will be extremely disappointed if we just pretend the world has no idea what happened, and as a result, the wheel issue is pushed to the next game, which may or may not happen.
I'm trying to not get too excited in case it doesn't turn out good with early reviews. I really like this universe so I'm hoping it will be at least good if not great.
Just finished replaying both PoE games, all primed and hyped to continue my adventures in Eora. I hope the game has some loose references to the Watcher of Caed Nua.
Great video especially after i just watched all of the PoE Lore videos. And alot of questions i had myself. Another question i have is that im just very curious about what the envoy was doing before these events, we seem to play as a grown up human, but did the godlike appearance only start showing after they became an envoy? How did that unknown god make us a godlike if they were sleeping, and does that mean that gods can make godlikes post birth? Like give their chime to a person thats already grown up and from there on the appearance will start growing?
Maybe the prologue answers all that but thats the part we havnt been able to see so idk.
The preview I played basically said the king of Aedyr took a liking to you (due to the background you choose) and appointed you to the royal court so those two things combined I would imagine. Character was born a godlike.
@@MortismalGaming Oh okay thats cool, then i guess the only question i have left is how the unknown god made a godlike while in their ''slumber''. Thats an interesting setup though!
Looking forward to your coverage of Avowed. Now if we can just will Pillars 3 and Tyranny 2 into existence...
I really enjoyed PoE 1 and 2 and was rather skeptical of Avowed, but just hearing about the lore again makes me really want to play it. Thank you for igniting my interest again
We are almost there :)
PILLARS OF ETERNITY
PILLARS OF ETERNITY
PILLARS OF ETERNITY
I'm so excited for this game. I've been needing an open world itch scratched for so long. I'm just hoping it's not as small scale as Outer Worlds. We will see!!
MC's Godlike look is fungal That plague is also looking like a fungal plague (check infected bears).
Could really see aloth in there, or references to him given how deep the leaden key is said to be involved with the gods and their story
Thanks for the video. All good points, but does it need more cowbell. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
3:40 Turns out it's Sheogorath, he's so chaotic he jumped franchises
Tbh I hope Avowed is a standalone story and *DOESN'T* try to wrap up the story mess from the end of Pillars 2. That would take a grand, epic Pillars 3 to even have a chance of succeeding and any less would just add to the mess. Some schlub on a solo expedition to the Living Lands is not that.
I know this has close to 0% chance of being a subject of this game, but I really want another PoE story focused on Rymrgand and the end of the world, consumed by the White Void.
Just finished PoE 2 yesterday. Loved it to bits and can't wait for Avowed. Very sad it didn't sell well and we didn't get another PoE CRPG but well, Avowed should be great.
You checking Stone of Madness? Not sure if it´s within your wheel of interests although since you´ve dwell into the occasional stealth tactics I though you may, you really get deep into the mechanics and feel of games and I was really looking for such a dive into the title before making a pruchase choice. Very excited for Avowed as well. Cheers and keep up the good work.
No current plans at least
@@MortismalGaming Thanks for answering, have a good night/day.
Playing dead fire again, I realise how much I enjoy the combat editor and skills, really wish there poe3
This is the the first time I’ve thought about the fact that your characters godlike status must imply that it’s a godlike that maybe Adyr has seen already. It can’t be new because the game is only set a couple years after deadfire and Adyr is sending you as an envoy. Not only that I feel like if you were some scary unknown godlike odds are high you’d be killed as a baby. Anyway. I just want to see a map of this setting 😂
Preview said that you wind up impressing the King of Aedyr through your background and are appointed to the court, how people react to godlikes varies wildly
I kinda regret beating Poe 1 and 2 in 3 days because now I remember almost nothing of the story
I have videos covering them
I dont want any specifics but it would be cool if they mentioned The Watcher and his crew. I am really hyped, it looks exactly like I wanted but I have a question? They said in terms of size was like Outer Worlds, does this also mean length? The reson is that even if I really enjoyed Outer Worlds it felt short, especially compared to other rpgs.
I'm just hoping it's not going to be another Outer Worlds. If it's just another linear "choice illusion" style game where the only real differences is the slide show at the end, I'll likely pass on it.
The Rauatai ultimately hail from the Deadfire too, just left for buying cigarettes.. ☝🤓
And now, daddy.. erm I mean the Ranga Nui is back.
I'm excited to see who this new God/Goddess is that we are from. I thought the Wheel was broken? Are the Gods losing power since POE 2? So many questions.
The machine that brought order to the wheel was broken but, if I recall, the cycle of resurrection was naturally occurring. Breaking the machine may not have totally destroyed the wheel like we are told it should.
Eothas tells you right at the end of 2 that the process is broken and will take 1-2 generations to fully stop
Dude, spoiler!
Just kidding.
Those are some interesting lore questions that I hope they answer/hint at in some fashion.
Imma play the entire game in 3rd person if I can. I don't know why developers seem to want to make many games 1st person these days. It's fine for shooters but for fantasy rpgs, I mean sometimes I guess. I know its not in the regular settings and only an accessibility thing, but im still gonna do it haha.
6:35 I know a pun when I see one!
Avowed into KCD2 into MHW is going to set me up very nicely until at least mid of summer. By then, hopefully Path Of Exile 2 is fully released and that will set me up untill GTA6 or some other big release. Sneaking in small indie games here and there and I'm praticaly all set up for most of the year.
I enjoyed pillars 1 on console and did everything, was excited to play 2 before avowed but the port doesn't seem nearly as good (series S)
Hope to play it sometime (maybe try PS5?) but I guess I'll play avowed first.
I started it recently on Series S and it's been running fine
That is interesting, I was under the impression that Avowed was set before PoE. Is this something that changed since the original annoucenment?
From an interview with Carrie Patel last year:
"However, while Avowed will, apparently, take place shortly after the events of Deadfire, Patel says it won't narratively be connected to it. "The two storylines are very separate," she adds - as separate as the continents they take place on. "The process that Eothas sets in motion at the end of Deadfire is not an instantaneous state-change in the world," she explains. "It's something that is going to take place and slowly change the world over generations, not overnight, so that gives us a bit of breathing room to give the player some other adventures in the interim."
It's set about 3 years after Deadfire
Sad that we won't have druid spells.
I will def check this out in gamepass but I can’t say I’m dying to play this. Def getting KCD2 on release but I’m not a yakuza or monster hunter fan so I should have time for this game
Your voice sounded a little rough in this video. I hope you are taking care. Rest up and be well.
Mort have you checked out Tails of Iron? The sequel just came out and it intrigued me enough to play the first game and man its fantastic. Imagine Souls-like meets the vibe of Kingdom Come Deliverance meets the animal kingdom. Its also narrated by the Geralt of Rivia voice actor.
Don't have time right now
@@MortismalGaming Cant imagine you ever have much time!
I've said it in other videos on Avowed but I'm curious to see how being forced to play a Godlike works out. They are my least favorite playable race by far and I was super bummed out to learn you have to play one. But overall the more I see of the game play the better I feel about the outlook of the game as a whole.
Wait - this is going to have a third person mode? I thought it would be First person only.. guess its back on my radar now
So excited for this game given how much I loved the first 2! That said, I am wondering why they aren't hyping/advertising it so much?
Good show sir
Did I hear correctly the accessibility options will offer a third person view?!?
Yeah, can see it in this video
I want to know what happened to the watcher. Did they return to Caed Nua and rebuild? Give me a little taste please, I need PoE 3 😭
My biggest question is why this game has no advertising? It seems like Microsoft and Obsidian don't have faith in this.
Feargus would rather spend money on game development than marketing.
@@VishnuViswanathan-sk2cc it's not his money or decision lmao
Luckily a single player game doesn’t need a huge launch. If it’s good hopefully over time sales will reflect it
Being a regular gamer I see it often on youtube, and in Gamepass / Xbox events and apps, but you probably mean like TV or Adds... where do people see adds nowadays? I honestly am asking, if you would say it has advertising, where would that be?
@@libramartin Microsoft just had their developer show and nothing about Avowed. I don't see any ads on UA-cam. Just the occasional video from certain channels. Look at Kingdom Come 2, over the last month it's been plastered everywhere.
Hey, Mort, Coridden (that one ARPG where you can shapeshift into various creatures) just launched. Do you plan on covering it?
Not currently, way too busy
As someone who has never played the PoE games, I still wonder if I can play avowed without being too confused or would I need to know some lore before playing it. I know that PoE 1+2 are on game pass but I unfortunately dont have time to play the PoE games before avowed releases.
hello dear internet, hope you enjoy this free comment.
It'll be on game pass, right? So I'll give it a try.
I miss RPG's where you didnt start out as a godlike being destined to go down in history but worked your way into that position instead. It feels restricting as far as roleplaying goes.
Godlike in pillars universe are not chosen ones, and are pretty average dudes in POE1-2.
even more so, a lot of godlike are considered cursed, and killed right after birth
Yeah godlike arent really special despite the name, they just look like the gods who 'blessed' them. If anything its more of a bad thing - spoilers
Godlikes are just batteries for the gods that make them, they disappeared between Deadfire and Avowed because the gods reabsorbed them to maintain their power as long as possible following the destruction of the wheel.
Tome the mushroom is some kind of rotting god or just all the rotting souls that are not cycling anymore . I'm sorry for this game going out with kd2 it will be hard , hope it will be better of outer worlds but from what i have seen their artist department still missing what the writing team is more than capable to do it. From the trailer it seems it miss verticality like outer worlds , there is never a place where you say ":wow" . Hope to get it wrong still
I haven't played Deadfire yet but I have...trust issue with Woedica.
Will players hate being unable to make a normal looking character?
You can? The fungal growths can be turned off.
You can turn the features off (though you are still a godlike)
My biggest issue with the game are the glowing chests. Breaks my immersion every time I see them. Why make them glow? We can see them without an obnoxious light.
You can turn that off
6:32 Heh, "Eothas is not exactly completely 'Gaun' either". Are you sure about that? Get it?
I played PoE2 a year ago, so maybe I'm forgetting something, but why godlike are rare now? Nothing happened to Pallegina in my game...
It's revealed at the end of PoE2 that godlike are effectively batteries for their gods, they were reabsorbed (killed) following the end of Deadfire and the danger it posed to the gods
@MortismalGaming wow, how did I missed that. Than you!
So sad Josh Sawyer (the og creator of POE1-2) barely worked on this one.😢
It's still being directed by the other main writer from those games, Carrie Patel
@theisaacpigg27_32 oh, that's good to hear actually. Thank you 🙏
@@theisaacpigg27_32 good 🙏
my interest have almost completely burned out so just like with bethesda i'm going to wait for complete edition
as for new deity i think that i could be related to certain legendary mage from expansion of second game and unpredictable result of fusion with titan
my biggest still valid question is when will they present lore acurate weather for that region because constant sunlight is just insulting
Wait? Thaos is back? 🤨
No his soul was fully destroyed at the end of 1, my point was he has survived thousands of years because Woedica protects her chosen assistants from the wheel.
Doesn't this take place centuries before the PoE games?
Nope, after Deadfire.
About 3 years after PoE2, the prequel thing was just a rumor
I loved Pillars but I really didn't like Outer Worlds gameplay. Add on the addition of a 90 dollar price point if you want to play it on release day and I think this is probably going to be a hard pass from me, at least until there is a significant sale.
Will you be reviewing Tails of Iron 2 or you don't like games like this?
No plans, I am already very busy
@@MortismalGaming No problem and thank you for answering me
Is it possible to play in third person?
yes
Do we know how fungally our character will look like godlikes in poe2 had quite a rigid look and I like making my character look like myself
From some of the leaked footage you can reduce it. If you dont theres the rest of the footage with some nightmare fuel pictures and others just so comically ugly
From the preview you can turn off the features and just look normal if you want (but you are still a godlike)
Only question for me is...can i start and finish Deadfire in 3 weeks...
The game is sensational so it's worth a shot!
If you beeline the main story, probably. If you explore it thoroughly, probably not
idk if ill play it or not, I am disappointed its not CRPG
I really hope it's good, I am still a bit afraid that this type of game is too ambitious for them. The writing and especially the dialogues might be negatively affected by the first person view when talking.
I found PoE 1 very derivative of the Forgotten realms, with the animancy, souls and created Gods being the only originality lore-wise.
Deadfire was much more "exotic" because of the setting but also the factions were great. But the ending broke the souls stuff so I don't know what to expect now. Hopefully they go into weirder directions instead of coming back to generic D&D.
Take care of your sore throat, Mort.
Wait... Lodwyn can survive during the encounter. Although yes, most if us would've easily killed her because we think it would be the best solutions. Considering there is 2 possible outcome, I don't think the game going to give you a straight answer.
My one question that overshadows any other question is: How is Eora still going if the cycle of life is destroyed?
That whole plot arc is so colossal that I legit don't give a fuq about anything else until somebody explains why the literal end-games starting in PoE2 are somehow not the main plot here.
It's about 3 years after Deadfire and the cycle will take about 1-2 generations to fully stop turning as stated by eothas himself, essentially they've got like a century or two to figure it out
Hate this UI. Hope it can be changed
They said it's customizable. To what extend, we don't know.
@@theobell2002 Wonderful! Thanks for letting me know.
@@theobell2002 My guess are toggles for each UI item? I'm pretty sure outer worlds had some of those.
The biggest question of lore for me, is it 60fps or not on console ??? they haven't actually answered this question, and we still don't know just a few weeks out from launch
i wish for modding support
