Great video! I had a friend rebuild a 1985 XR600R. He had access to a sand blaster and used that to strip the painted parts. Kind of messy but very effective at stripping paint and corrosion.... The bike had been ridden in the gulf coast region of Texas. Anyone from that area knows how badly the salt air environment are on mechanical items. He blasted it in California and the bike is still going strong.
I wouldn't say it's an absolute highest end restoration, but im sure he wasn't trying to. Now that's out the way absolute cracking job of making an old bike look in excellent usable condition that's looking very clean and fresh. Great video I love the layout love the way the video was filmed bike was done to an excellent Do it yourself shed restoration that was cost effective but still the bike looks amazing. Very impressed 👏
Didn't want to spend too much time and money making it perfect, just giving it to a 15 year old that's going to be tearing up the dirt every day and having fun!
@geraldsgarage4100 Exactly Gerald still an amazing job. It's actually better this way then it will get used and not a show queen where nobody wants to scratch it.
@geraldsgarage4100 is still a great restoration no doubt 👌 and may I add with a stock pipe on sounds amazing in the band. Hope you do more motocross bikes and motorcycles your video layout is excellent love the way you make the videos
Man I really enjoyed that, brings back so many good memories, i had a yz80s and a yz80t, the 80’s dirtbikes were my best times, even though ive owned 125’s,250’s and 500’s but being a kid on an 80 was simply the best. Im 52 now and I don’t ride anymore but after watching this video id love to restore one to have in my lounge room. Great job mate 👌
I raced a 1985-model in my youth. My dad and I stripped it like you did and built it back with the best parts available. It was a rocketship, the guys on 1992 Suzukis ate my dust on the track even though they had a more linear powerband. The YZ was nothing, nothing and BOOM, everything. Great memories of both working with my dad and racing th YZ.
I couldn't help myself when I seen your video! I had to watch it and I'm glad I did! My first 80cc yz was the j model then the k then s, great bikes and great times!! Good job too mate!! 👍
Me too well impressed loved the layout of the video no messing about. The bike was done by himself in his shed to an excellent cost effective restoration very impressed 👏 👍
If you removed the gas tank and filled it with water and took a torch it would remove the discoloration. If done correctly it would look almost new again.
My cuz had `a `1989 yz80 I had a1986 kaw kx 80 power band liquid cool we raced and he smoked me like a pack of kools you had to sit pñ the gas tank to hold it down
I love motorcycles, but I love more when they are treated well.👍
Awesome build, you did excellent restoration. It's always great to see something vintage coming back from the dead.
Freaking amazing, absolutely amazing!!! Wish I was that kid!!!!!!
Great video. Well done pal. 👍
Good to see the old 2strokes saved.😉
It's put a big smile on the young lads face to.😃
BIG 👍
Frame off, nothing like bringing an old 2 stroke back to life. Beautiful bike, kick ass lil machines way ahead of their time
Very nicely done. You’ve made that kid very happy.
Made me smile this morning by bringing back memories of my child hood. I had that same bike when I was maybe 9-10years old and absolutely loved it.
Deadly little bike, reminds me of my childhood!
Great video!

Jib well done sir ! That was my dream bike when I was a young feller
Wow very nice work and such a fun bike. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing more!
You sure did put a smile on your kid's face. you should sand 800-2500 the tank and polish it. it'll look new.
Is that how they're making the tanks look new? I will definitely try that on the next one!
I just watched “Dirt bike kid” few days ago, all this bike needs is twin headlights lol
I remember that film so well for when I was a kid

That was a good watch 👍🏻 I haven’t done one for a couple years last one was a ‘95 RM250. I wish I never sold it 😢
I'm 61 and i remember that sound well!
Little screamers!
Love that two stroke whine. My Dad had a Suzuki GT 750. Four cylinder two stroke water cooled.
Immediately reminisced of "The Dirt Bike Kid"

The best dirtbikes style is like 82 to 89 no matte what I like regular folk beautifull bike
this is great seeing some one give a old classic 2 stroke bike a second chance!!
So badass
Awesome video man! I had one of these bikes! My dad got it for me from his friend who ran a junkyard. It was impounded & never picked up. $200
I couldn't help myself when I seen your video! I had to watch it and I'm glad I did! My first 80cc yz was the j model then the k then s, great bikes and great times!! Good job too mate!! 👍

80cc never made sense. Nothing with that small a piston should haul ass like that😂
Right! It's crazy how much power that little bitty piston makes!
I had a YZ 80. Which seized.
Then a KZ125. Followed by a KD250 trials bike.

I owned a 82 YZ80 as a 10 yo. What camera did you use for this video?
Sony ZV-E10
Nice vid but why paint the frame red?? Made the 87 look like an 86.
Cuz a 15 yo wanted red and i didn't care
