Because the show's title changed, the SNES game title had to change too. In terms of which is the better game representing the show, I would pick the SNES. However, I do have to admit, the SEGA version had a rocking soundtrack, especially the boss level for Mad Hatter.
Guys, I think you should start incorporating "Draws" into your videos. For example, during the Graphics part of this, I think the Genesis version having cool scaling and rotating effects to look like 3D is great, while sprites and such are more detailed in the SNES version should give them a Draw since they both have something good and unique towards them.
true, with much more character on screen, en 3D effect, the graphic part should be draw. Same thing for the gameplay. the Sega game don't just have Robin, it's have Robin and Batman in same time, 2 players mode is a big bonus for the gameplay

At some point, sprite size effects gameplay. Bigger sprites do not a good game make. Thus Larger Sprites = worse game, when you are in a high action game like the SEGA Batman.... When i was a kid i remember me and my brother play the sega batman and robin all the weekend always trying to finish and we can only finish 1 time, it was a hard game, and we was experts at the end, bring me good memories :')
I have both versions of the game, but I’m probably in the minority here when I say that I like the snes version better. It looks just like the show and like Greg says feels more like Batman and is more simple, but can be challenging. I do like the sega version also. It has good graphics and a great soundtrack, but the problem is that it’s way too hard.
Obviously, whether you like one or the other more is a matter of taste, but objectively the Genesis game is much better. If we are arguing which game best represents the batman license you can say that Super is (if you overlook that Batman has the agility of a turtle), but let's imagine an FMV type Batman game where you see a real high quality Batman movie in which you press a button every 2 minutes. The game would represent Batman perfectly, but it would be bad and boring, so what counts is which game is better. PS: As for the graphics, the Super version is very good, but it is competing with the probably best game in the technical section of the Genesis. To say that the Super's graphics are better is either not knowing the Genesis version well or being quite biased.
LoL, Dan used an XBOX controller and said it was ps3. i love when you guys do that. Sometimes, Greg has the SNES controller still coiled up. Makes the episodes better
They are both absolutely fucking awesome games. Classics. That soundtrack for Genesis is one of the best ever. I listen to it without playing the game.
Are you serious? SNES music is more suitable to a character like Batman and also it's more faithful to the animated serie. For me, best sound goes to SNES.
Sound is objective to the listener I suppose, but I would have given the SNES the edge in the sound department because the music fits in better with game's Theme.
Yeah but Batman Retuns is just all show and no substance.. it has flashy&Gaudy visuals but its characters aren't as well written and the story is just "meh" or "Wtf". The first batman movie is OKAY dated yes but its still watchable and has a much more coherent plot&characters than Returns.
***** The first one made more sense? The Joker throwing a parade in the middle of Gotham, and no cops are around, even though he's a wanted mass murderer? Batman unloads all the Bat-wing's weapons at him and misses? The Joker is able to shoot down the Bat-wing with one shot from a revolver? It makes no sense at all.
I'd say both are necessities for SNES and Genesis collections. The SNES version is like playing the cartoon, while the Genesis feels more like a B:TAS/Batman Beyond mash-up. You guys should compare Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage sometime!
Since everyone is saying genesis is better ask yourself this question . Which version is actually desired more by collectors ? Go check and trust me it's not the sega one
I was half-expecting Dan to cut off Greg when he was announcing the winner with a copy of the SEGA CD version, cut to dan frantically trying to set up the SEGA CD while greg is screaming, "NO STAHP THAT'S CHEATING" while the video cuts off.
Wow love the videos but I would never take SNES version over the Sega. That Sega Batman is a beast did I hear him say he thinks the Sega game is too hard that's why game-play goes to the SNES. Other than the music on SNES I don't see in anyway how it could be a better game it doesn't even look better IMHO. Anyways nice videos keep up the good work.
+kirgeez Well, as fun as the sega game is, its not a Batman game, its a Contra game. Its not what you think of when you think of a Batman video game. And maybe hard was the wrong word. Unbalanced is probably better. It starts of fine, but get too hard way too fast. You can't beat it with low powered weapons and its so hard to stay alive long enough to get weapons maxed out. You have to be flawless in later levels and thats a bit much.
I would agree that its similar to Gunstar Heroes or Contra Hard Corps but I would still say you are smoking if you think that's a bad thing. I'd still say its great..:) But then again It has elements of game types I like so I guess I am bias... When I saw the game I didn't think oh this is not a Batman game I was more like Oh shit this is awesome...
+kirgeez I've owned the game for a half year now and still haven't beaten the 2nd level. It is REALLY fucking hard. I used to play tons of hard NES games back in the day, even beat a handful of them, but this game's difficulty is really frustratingly difficult. It's like difficultly for a perfectionist. I can relate to why it turned the tables to the SNES. If the difficulty was toned down, i think it could've won.
This could be a stretch, but why not try a special 4-way Art of Fighting console war between SNES, Genesis, Turbografx, and Neo Geo as your next episode?
If you have the reflexes of Sonic the hedgehog and the patience of an ancient sage then yes, then Genesis version might be some what challenging, but heck that's why there are codes for skipping/selecting levels lol! Overall gameplay though I like the genesis version way more because its so fast and intense, offers 2 players, and has amazing music. also the final boss battle is amazing while the SNES one is just the joker on a jetpack flying around annoying Mr. Bat lol!
Are you trolling? Ive been playing video games since i was 3 years old not even joking, im currently 27. Ive beaten endless amount of games probably 1000 like no joke on every single console. Let me tell you that this game on the genesis version i tried and tried and tried, Guess what i failed... I just couldnt beat this game, i got very far but i couldnt beat it. I can say without fear that The Adventures of Batman and Robin on Genesis is near impossible without cheats or codes.
KAILOONE It is challenging I admit, but other than that I didn't encounter a single moment in the game where I got furious and/or rage quit because of ludicrous difficulty. I'm not gonna lie, the final boss (Mr. Freeze) is hard at first, but after figuring out his pattern of attack, it's pretty simple. Also, I've beaten the game WITHOUT CHEATS OR CODES and the ending is somewhat of a let down compared to the SNES version
The reason why Robin isn't in the SNES version is because it was going to be called Batman: The Animated Series, but the name change in the show resulted in the game being called The Adventures of Batman and Robin.
Sega, NOOOOOOOOO! I would have personally went Sega for graphics and gameplay, Nintendo for presentation and music. However, I can understand picking how you did.
Hold up fam I know this dude did not just complain on trying to beat a game in one sitting. That's how it was back in the day. That's the fun in it. Ain't nothing more satisfying than trying to beat it in one sitting. Try beating Streets of Rage 3 for the true ending on hard. That was satisfying
Please do Rock N Roll Racing ! Loved this video, here i thought the Sega version was superior. You should have mentioned that the turbo option helps playing the Sega version.
I really enjoyed this ! Yeah, tried both the SNES and Sega versions, the gameplay is far too repetitive and brutal on the Sega. SNES has lots of different gameplay styles requiring many more skills than the Sega which is just constant shooting. SNES is also much more forgiving and fun to play just to chill out, while the Sega version is like an extreme workout on the fingers ! :D
I happen to find you guys well doing research for a panel at a local con with generally the same idea, and i quite dig it dudes. Love the idea for the channel, keep it up!
lol, it's always funny to see the dislike bar. Fans still salty over a 20 year old debate. I personally like the Genesis version more, but let these guys have their opinion. C'mon guys =P
While I disagreed with their decision here, it's still a good show. I wouldn't thumb them down for that reason. That is disrespectful since all of their videos are entertaining.
Whwhwhwhwhw------WHAAAAAAT!?! Nintendo has the soundtrack from the show (which sounds dark, epic, and ominous), and yet SEGA wins for being a freakin' disco party?? I get it, an original soundtrack is great 'n all, but for a licensed title it should still give more points to have music from the source material. It seemed to me that SEGA only won this category because Batman on NES had an original soundtrack too.
I can't help but wonder if the makers of cuphead weren't Loosely inspired by the Cheshire Cat boss in the Genesis game when they created Werner wormans cat robot.
Very good game. I have this one for the SNES. Sega Genesis looks good too, nice graphics, but I don't like this "Contra" shooter style. One of most impressive levels for me it's the Riddler one. The graphics, especially the reflects on the floor and rotation effects are amazing! And the investigation / RPG style it is very good too! I have this cartridge until today and never beated this game, that final stage it's so hard, man! Time to play it again! Thanks you guys!
Another thing to point out about the SNES version of the game is that it featured more villain characters from the show than its Sega Genesis counterpart, since the only villains who appeared in that version of the game were Joker (& Harley Quinn), Two-Face, Mad Hatter, and Mr. Freeze.
Even though the Sega version is brutally difficult I still find myself going back to it over and over. The two player mode is even harder since you have to share power-ups.
guys, guys, GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUYS!!!! is not that the "character are smaller on the Segas", is because on Genesis they have a higher resolution than SNES, but all games play at 4:3 regardless, which makes the characters thinner.
No. They are smaller, but it makes sense since you need to take in the entire screen at all times, and because the Genesis does have a bigger resolution, with it being the way it is, you can react faster to enemies and dodge better.
***** Look at the snes batman and robin, the enemies look like they are running though molasses. I'm sure if the Genesis didn't care about running in slow motion they could make the characters huge too.
E Tr There is an massive amount less going on in the SNES version. The game was designed to be slow and have less going on in general, while the Genesis version is designed to have a shitload of things going on and to fuck your shit right up.
snoogans23 It takes a while, about a month. Its hard to meet cuz our schedules are so different. And now I'm sick so we're delayed even more. Still want to get one more out before the new year.
09:04 WHATTTTTTTTTTTT THEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK??????????????? I've never been so disagreee with anything before Doesn't have a cool original soundtrack??? Oh man, I declare war right now.
Oscar Chuquillanqui Yeah it seems they just gave it to sega to win at least something, i'm not throwing shit at the sega version, it's still fun, but has no chances against the nintendo version
It's unbelievable how Batman was more fun on the NES then on the 16 bit systems! I definitely think the second genesis version was better by the way but not by much
I prefer the Genesis version. It looks better, plays better, SOUNDS better, and most importantly, there's NO filler. The SNES version, on the other hand, is a mixed bag. There were parts that I liked (the Catwoman chase, for example), and parts that I hated (the driving level).
Funilly enough, I'm not sure if you heard this or not, but the SNES game wasn't gonna be called The Adventures of Batman and Robin. It was gonna be called Batman: The Animated Series, which explains why Robin wasn't playable. But due to the name change to the series, execs kinda forced them to use that name.
Yep that's true it was changed when the show changed its name and since the game was already in production they couldn't re-do the whole game to accommodate robin
Perhaps because these games are so different they're just really hard to properly compare? How would you choose which game won on an aspect that is really different but done well on both? Because one is closer to the show? and what if the games you were comparing licensed from a really bad show? would the game further away from the source win?
Both games are sweet but entirely different, similar to the Batman Returns titles. Im more of a Sega collector but the SNES version is an absolute must own for the system and for any Batman fans. I dislike the cardboard box Genesis releases however and wish it had been in a clamshell case. That would be my only gripe with the Sega version...and its hard as hell!
PLEASE can anyone tell me where can I find the Snes version of this game in Apk?? Not emulator!! APK!! I have found all games directly even the Sega version of this game, but this one not yet, please help.
+Diego “diggarci” García It's not a fuckin Android game, idiot. Download SNES9X EX+ from the Play Store (it's free), put the rom on your phone, play it and fuck off.

As always was very interesting to watch Your's video!^^,) Never played on SNES, but I beat it with friend on SMD and that was AWESOME gameplay!!! We tried so hard all week and finally we did it!^^,) Love that game and hunting a copy of SNES version.
as a cartoon-based game, snes version is definitely better. but i personally prefer genesis version, since i'm not a great fan of batman series and don't have any interact at batman characters and stories. just a simple and hardcore run-n-gun gameplay is enough for me. also i haven't seen any boss fights and music that are better than mad hatter. even riddler in SNES version was so lame compared to him !
As a fan of both games I think you were right about the SNES version being better (I really wanted the Sega one to be better). The game had a more Batman-ey feel than the Genesis game, which is essentially a shmup. Graphics should've been a draw. PS - What recording equipment you guys use? You should really switch to RGB.
Well of course the one [XXXXX] version won it looked like the show, felt like the show and even had levels based off of the show. As long as it wasn't based off of the later design with Tim Drake as Robin. The show was still good but changing the character to look more to match Superman TAS was so jarring. Some of the character got the short end like Catwoman and Joker

P. H. G. F. You mean the Genesis version is one of the hardest games ever?! That game is impossible.

11:50 "a little" 😂 under-rated channel you should have more subs. Earned 👍
I too agree with the video near 100 percent
Learn to play.
I finish the genwsis version with no deaths
To be fair, I like them both.
Glad I randomly discovered this channel. I love it!!
I just want you to know that I'm learning english and this is one of the best channels I have found in english.
Genesis version has music from Jesper Kid. Automatically wins!
+Hubert Hans *Jesper Kyd
I know. You know, sometimes there are typing errors. Happens. All the TIME! Wher´e gonna die, soon!
Hitman rules!!!
Hubert Hans Blind fanboy alert
Except, it doesn't match the feel of the show.
im watching this after Kevin's Passing. RIP Kevin Conroy
You and me both. Best Batman there will ever be!
They're both good games but you've failed to mention which is the most fun!
It's the megadrive game.
lol
Sound is objective to the listener I suppose, but I would have given the SNES the edge in the sound department because the music fits in better with game's Theme.
I actually prefer Batman Returns to Burton's first Batman. Have you watched that one lately? It really hasn't aged well...
benway20 Penguins with missiles on their backs has nothing on Smilex.
benway20 Batman Returns is my favorite Batman movie personally.
Batman Returns is the best of the old Batman movies in my opinion and it deserves way more respect and attention than its getting.
*****
The first one made more sense?
Go check and trust me it's not the sega one
those are genesis fan boys simply defending their childhood present, they would even defend mk2 in genesis better then snes LMAO
I was half-expecting Dan to cut off Greg when he was announcing the winner with a copy of the SEGA CD version, cut to dan frantically trying to set up the SEGA CD while greg is screaming, "NO STAHP THAT'S CHEATING" while the video cuts off.
The Snes version is the best. It is amazing... I like the Genesis version too, though.
Console Wars You should do a Mickey Mania comparison between SNES and the Genesis!
NTxC They've Done That Comparison And Sega Won EVERY CATEGORY (😥 I Wanted SNES To Win, I'm A Nintendo Kid).
well worth the wait guys thank you for another great episode
I beat the genesis version many times and it was fun playing two players.
Yes the Sega version was better, their both decent games though if your fan of the show.
This could be a stretch, but why not try a special 4-way Art of Fighting console war between SNES, Genesis, Turbografx, and Neo Geo as your next episode?
Am I like the ONLY person in the world who thinks the Genesis version isn't hard?
YES
KAILOONE check my channel i did a full playthrough of it
Yet another awesome episode guys! Loved the little nod toward the future early on.
Finally! Been waiting forever! Keep up the good work!
The reason why Robin isn't in the SNES version is because it was going to be called Batman: The Animated Series, but the name change in the show resulted in the game being called The Adventures of Batman and Robin.
I love the Genesis game, but I'm not mad at your conclusion due to the rational arguments that were presented.
Any soundtrack by Jesper Kyd will always be top-notch.
Absolutely
Sega, NOOOOOOOOO!
I would have personally went Sega for graphics and gameplay, Nintendo for presentation and music. However, I can understand picking how you did.
Hold up fam I know this dude did not just complain on trying to beat a game in one sitting. That's how it was back in the day. That's the fun in it. Ain't nothing more satisfying than trying to beat it in one sitting. Try beating Streets of Rage 3 for the true ending on hard. That was satisfying
Been waiting so long for this episode, it just made my day. Cheers guys, looking forward to the next episode.
I agree with overall , but I dusagree with grafic reception - Gensis version have brighter color , grafic effects better n more enemy sprites
SNES! I'm 25 years old and this WAS my childhood...oh how time flies
Great video guys! This game is sooo freaking hard on the Mega Drive!!! Im excited to see PS3 x Xbox360 videos!!!!
Please do Rock N Roll Racing ! Loved this video, here i thought the Sega version was superior. You should have mentioned that the turbo option helps playing the Sega version.
And the fact that it is co-op
The Sound sucks on the Sega-Rock'n'Roll Racing...
Never played the Super Nintendo version, but I did play the Sega version with my brother back in the day. We never made it past the first level...
lol, it's always funny to see the dislike bar. Fans still salty over a 20 year old debate.
I personally like the Genesis version more, but let these guys have their opinion. C'mon guys =P
flashman92 I liked the Sega one more but it has less to do with Batman so I understand console wars reasoning.
While I disagreed with their decision here, it's still a good show. I wouldn't thumb them down for that reason. That is disrespectful since all of their videos are entertaining.
ironically a dislike can be consider an opinion...
Otto Waragon What else the composer has done is irrelevant if the music they have made for THIS game doesn't fit the game.
As long as the music is awesome it doesn't matter if it's different. Protip: Terminator CD.
Marcel Weber Still, in a game based on a cartoon show, I expect the game to have music from that show.
Otto Waragon
"(but not recommend to use the headphone lol)."
Why not?
Otto Waragon
Only if you play it on a shitty emulator, on real hardware there is no problem.
Boy...you guys were way off on this one. The Super Nintendo version was literally a mid tier beat em up.
Great episode guys!!
I can't help but wonder if the makers of cuphead weren't Loosely inspired by the Cheshire Cat boss in the Genesis game when they created Werner wormans cat robot.
LOL Loved All the Batman Products in the beginning XD
Another great episode!
Genesis version is amazing...with the exception of that gosh darn flying level
Hell yes new console wars. Thanks guys!
Should've been a clean sweep for the SNES version. The Genesis version can't compare, especially not in the sound category.
Can you guys do Shadowrun next?
1:35 just revisiting old episodes and a ps3 vs Xbox 360 hint for the future. Console wars will love forever!
Another thing to point out about the SNES version of the game is that it featured more villain characters from the show than its Sega Genesis counterpart, since the only villains who appeared in that version of the game were Joker (& Harley Quinn), Two-Face, Mad Hatter, and Mr. Freeze.
i have an idea.. how about TMNT the fighting game. Genesis vs SNES. both Konami like Batman, but totally different games.
Both are really good games as well.
Konami did not make the Genesis Batman game. Sega did.
Actually, Clockwork Tortoise made the Genesis game. This and the Sega CD version are the only games they ever released.
Even though the Sega version is brutally difficult I still find myself going back to it over and over. The two player mode is even harder since you have to share power-ups.
***** can't get enough of it.
I couldn't stand the Sega game to even make it through the first level.
guys, guys, GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUYS!!!! is not that the "character are smaller on the Segas", is because on Genesis they have a higher resolution than SNES, but all games play at 4:3 regardless, which makes the characters thinner.
E Tr
There is an massive amount less going on in the SNES version. The game was designed to be slow and have less going on in general, while the Genesis version is designed to have a shitload of things going on and to fuck your shit right up.
***** you right Sega genesis games to awful
CHI-CHI!!!! I LOVE CHI-CHI ^_^
Stumbled on your channel. Love the review. Super funny and you fairly judged both games. Subscribed and 👍. How long does it take to make an episode?
snoogans23 It takes a while, about a month. Its hard to meet cuz our schedules are so different. And now I'm sick so we're delayed even more. Still want to get one more out before the new year.
Wrong. It's better on the genesis.
09:04 WHATTTTTTTTTTTT THEEEEEEEEEEEEEE FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK???????????????
I've never been so disagreee with anything before
Doesn't have a cool original soundtrack???
Oh man, I declare war right now.
Oscar Chuquillanqui Yeah it seems they just gave it to sega to win at least something, i'm not throwing shit at the sega version, it's still fun, but has no chances against the nintendo version
Amen
i have both and the sega version is better by a long shot.the nintendo version isnt bad but not good either
*****
Techno baby
Agreed. They really dropped the ball on this one.
Was that 360/Ps3 argument some kinda hint? :D Love the Animated Series, used to watch it every morning on K-RTL back in the day. Sweet memories!
I beat this game when I was just a kid, & it was one of my most played games. The difficulty level means you get more value out of the game IMO.
I'm a Nintendo fanboy but I have to admit, the Genesis version looks impressive. I would have been blown away as a kid if I'd played it.
Why didn't you guys do gunstar heroes yet? Or comic zone?
How much should you pay for those games?
Perhaps because these games are so different they're just really hard to properly compare?
How would you choose which game won on an aspect that is really different but done well on both? Because one is closer to the show? and what if the games you were comparing licensed from a really bad show? would the game further away from the source win?
This was awesome can you guys do that 7up game Spot? or Ghouls and ghost?
Please never do PS vs Xbox stuff. Stick to the glory days of Sega vs Nintendo
If anything I'd hope Greg can come back one day, and they move to the 5th gen instead: Ps1 vs N64 vs Saturn!
That would be so interesting
batman returns had heavy influence on batman the animated series even theme is from burton's batman
There's a copy at my local video game store, at least there was last time I was there.
+Diego “diggarci” García It's not a fuckin Android game, idiot. Download SNES9X EX+ from the Play Store (it's free), put the rom on your phone, play it and fuck off.
Sorry Guys I dont agree with this one.
The Genesis version is a very nice arcade Style game with superior graphics and awesome soundtrack
You guys have to do Batman Returns SNES vs Genesis. Two different games who deserve a better look
Yes please.
"Let's not get into that yet...." can't wait until you do (though I love the classic war!).
J Venom One day...
Console Wars
I will look forward to that day! But until then, there is much retro ground to cover!
Keep up the great work guys.
I really want to own and play both of these games but they seem impossible to find nowadays.
You can find them on Tradera (european eBay), but they're PAL, though.
Captain Comics Comics I tried the Swedish Tradera a while ago and i have tried Amazon UK but cant find these games anywhere.
eBay?
CyberLance26 Yeah, I checked Tradera right now. None of the versions are there anymore! They do have many copies of Batman Returns, though (great game, too).
Captain Comics Comics Yea im planning to get that game in the future but its these two games i want the most so annoying that i cant find them anywhere.
5:37 "epishode of the show"
As always was very interesting to watch Your's video!^^,) Never played on SNES, but I beat it with friend on SMD and that was AWESOME gameplay!!!
Mad Hatter in this game is the best game boss ever seen..
Some of the character got the short end like Catwoman and Joker
hey guys, good stuff. this is one of my favorite things to watch. i've seen every episode and cant wait for more! ill be sure to mention you in my next video.
Really good content, with this comparison and review! Entertaining, concise, and the jokes had good delivery. Keep up the good work, ya'll.
Thank you!
Sega genesis all the way wins!! Super nes batman is BORING!!!
