I feel like adding coconut and pineapple extracts to the gelatin “water” would make it taste a bit better, and very tropical. 🏝
I'm no expert, but I don't think you can add pineapple to gelatin. The enzymes in the fruit won't let the jelly set up
ETA: I agree though, adding flavour would have helped
@@bennie1223 u can heat the pineapple up to deactivate the enzyme

Yep. And the way you find it is by choking to death on it. Lol, jk.

Imagine looking at the finished cake and realizing you forgot to put the gift in!🙈🤣
I'm tempted to make this only because I wanna put a couple gummy sharks in the water.
I thought of that too. But I was just thinking about how one would set it up so that the sharks are suspended in the middle of the gelatin?
@@jamesoliver9278 maybe if you did it in layers and had it cool, add the sharks then top it off w. More gelatin ? Maybe idk lol just a thought !!

Slightly off topic: bless you for mentioning that gentle bear of a man, Bill Alexander. I learned painting watching his PBS show in the 1980s. You can still catch episodes on UA-cam. He did indeed teach Ross.
I'd make this using like mango/pinneaple flavor for the gelatin and dried coconut powder for the mossy parts instead of crumbs
That is a great idea. Adds a little tropical taste with that chocolate. I think that would pair pretty well together!
Banana gelatine, like your shredded coconut idea!
I think the addition of a gummy shark in the “water” would have been cute!
Absolutely lol
I thought so too or any sea creatures lol
And sweedish fish
that would be a huge shark in comparison to the island. maybe a gummy whale.
It would be a megalodon...

A tip for anyone heating up something delicate in the microwave: set the thing to HALF POWER. It'll take longer, but you'll run much less risk of burning or overcooking. :)
Also, if you're going to do big gelatin project like this, you don't have to buy lots of little boxes. Plain gelatin is available in 1 lb jars - much cheaper!
how 🥺
@@juliaaajames1259 Every microwave has a button that adjusts the power level.

I imagine this cake falls under the category of: awesome to look at but a disappointing eating experience. Especially the “ocean” part where you get about two thirds gelatine to a third chocolate cake. It might be nicer to use actual jello or prepare the gelatine with a clear juice, lemonade or white wine instead of water.
i LOVE the idea of using (probably diluted) white wine! I'm also not a huge chocolate fan, and I bet you could do something with, say, lemon cake and buttercream icing instead of ganache? Make it smooth, rich, a little tart, a little boozy? YUM!
White grape juice could be another good option.
Idk but a tropical fruit flavor for gelatin is better.
@@benjwilliams5104 white ganache would work better than buttercream
@@videogame1291 Probably, texture/stability wise, but I like white chocolate even less than milk/dark chocolate.
I am convinced there literally isn’t anything Emmy can’t do.
I loved how honest you were reviewing your own work!
Business Articles need to pay attention to Emmy. She has mastered the art of catering to her audience. She knows that on a youtube cooking channel, people are only going to "see" interesting recipes. They can find realistic cooking recipes easily elsewhere. She picks out things no one would ever dare to cook and pics recipes that are visually and mentally stimulating and interesting.
AND she gives history or science lessons while doing it
This is what most marketing classes and websites teach already. When in an industry is saturated, find a way to make what you do within that industry be interesting and unique.

Great idea
Raspberry with chocolate cake? Hmm... Idk
Cnith TheOnliestOne raspberry would be good but blue raspberry often tastes very artificial cans sweet
Cnith TheOnliestOne maybe a lemon cake with chocolate gnash.
My husband knows you as "Jello lady". When I told him that you'd uploaded a new video, he rolled his eyes because he knew it would have gelatin involved and he doesn't like it 😂 I do though, keep it up!
Emmy is the absolute best UA-camr. Informative, kind, fun to watch and relaxing.
It looks lovely! I would suggest using some blue raspberry Jello with a little added plain gelatin for the water. It would give it a Knox Blox vibe.

Lol “take notes”
Oh you ain't seen nothing yet. I feel like sometimes her whole thesis for a video is "this sounds like it will taste terrible, I want to try it!" or "I would never have thought to eat that, let's try it!"
Who's a professional chef?

I was just thinking the gelatin doesn't have any flavor. Its a gorgeous cake though. Maybe coconut or chocolate orange gelatin.
The channel, SugarGeek makes these as well. She uses blue raspberry jello and adds citric acid to make it tart like gummy candies.
@@helpfulnatural Beat me to it, I was going to say chocolate and raspberry goes well together!
I was thinking maybe a mint flavoring for a mint chocolate cake.
@@stevecochrane9059 Hmmmm. I LOVE chocolate mint, but something about mint flavored jello just strikes me as 'wrong' and I think it would even if it actually tasted great. You know, like Jules in Pulp Fiction said, about how sewer rat might taste like pumpkin pie, but ..... (can't remember the rest, probably several curse words) LOL!!
@@stevecochrane9059 Another thing; I've experimented with various types of mint flavorings/extracts and found myself nothing but frustrated by how tricky it is. Namely, I make my own ice cream and have never been able to create a chocolate mint that even tasted as good as a cheap store brand. And apparently it's not just me --creating the cool-but-smooth mint taste in most commercial brands must involve some trick, either one or two of the other ingredients in the mile-long list, or just knowing exact version of mint flavoring to use. There's a local (regional) small business ice cream maker here in Mobile, and all their flavors are hit-or-miss. They have the best chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream I've ever had, but their chocolate mint literally tastes like toothpaste, and I don't even know HOW they think their pistachio is right --somehow it tastes like cherry cough syrup!
I don't remember another artist before Bob Ross's show, so I looked it up: Bill Alexander "The Magic of Oil Painting" and he did teach Bob Ross. From Wikipedia: "Ross also dedicated the first episode of the second season to Alexander, explaining that "I feel as though he gave me a precious gift, and I'd like to share that gift with you [the viewer]". "
He passed away in 1997.

I wish I liked gelatinous things. They’re so gorgeous, I can almost understand why people used to encase every food in jello.
Mocha same. I hate jello, I find it creepy, but it looks so pretty when it’s not moving.
Same, specially plain gelatin, it makes deserts look so pretty and fancy but it tastes and smells disgusting
It always reminds me of that episode of The Office
Imagine put some orange/red gelatin to make some vulcanic eruption, would be amazing too!
Good idea! And strawberry or cherry flavored jello would go really well with the chocolate.
THANK YOU for talking about how it tastes! These sorts of ideas look very cool, but I always want to know if they taste good too!
I love how excited you get. You have such a sweet personality. You make me smile 😊
Hope everyone had a great day and I pray we all have a great weekend filled with delicious food 😋
Fun fact: I saw Alexander doing a painting session at Yellowstone back in 1982. He was shaped like the penguin
I made this cake. I wanted to boost the flavor of the gelatin, so I replaced some of the plain Knox gelatin with lime and blue raspberry Jello (for color as well as flavor). About a half a box worth, so the color didn’t end up being too opaque. I also replaced the first amount of water with Baja Blast Mountain Dew (again for color and flavor). I used lime juice instead of lemon and backed off the amount a bit in order to add coconut flavoring. No need to add extra food coloring. It turned out to be a perfect shade of ocean blue and still transparent enough! :)
Thanks for this! I’m thinking of using Jello instead of gelatin and this was great to hear.
You are so calming and wholesome.

I can't help but thing the ocean should be mint flavoured, a nice spearmint flavour with chocolate cake is nice... :D
That sounds delicious😋
Mint actually makes so much sense for the ocean. It's a cool and powerful flavor like ocean water is cool and powerful. Chocolate and mint also work amazing together. Great idea.
Yeah, I think that would be better than lemony gelatin.
Such an amazing idea my friend! Also mint flavor is always represente with a light turquoise color and chocolate with mint work so good together!
That sounds like an awesome idea!! I love the combination mint and chocolate
I made one of these cakes for my birthday last week. It turned out to be mostly jelly and chocolate and not much cake. Use quality chocolate, don't be cheap. It took me about 2 1/2 days to make. I used 2 cake mixes, 2 packets of milk chocolate, half a packet of white chocolate, half a cup of cream and 1 1/2 litres of jelly. The jelly will be more of a gummy texture. If you aren't a fan of gummy jelly you won't like the cake very much. I bought aeroplane jelly and just added some more gelatine, worked well. I layered the jelly from deep blue to a light aqua so I had to do the separate layers about every 5-10 minutes which was time consuming, but worth it. It doesn't last long in the fridge without the mould. The jelly struggles to hold together because of gravity, it will start to split after several hours, so best to take it out and finish it off just before you serve it.
what brands are considered good quality for baking...and can you flavor the jelly, so it won't be bland.
@@kaozzzzzzzzz1 I used Cadbury because that's the best I could get where I live. I find store brand cooking chocolate to have a weird aftertaste. I bought 3 different blue flavoured jellys so I just had to worry about adding more gelatine.
@R. If you can source it at the moment, definitely. Cadbury baking chocolate isn't too bad to work with, just don't use the regular stuff.
R. If it worked for him then your wrong. Stfu nobody cares
@R. Dr Oetker has some good baking chocolates, I actually eat the 85% bars often since they're quite dark but not bitter, works well in cakes and cookies

Well the moon is made of cheese so of course Earth is made of cake!
The earth isn't flat or a sphere, its a cylander!
as cool as this cake looks i feel bad for anyone having to get a 70% jello slice u_u
I saw the original video but Emmy confirmed my theory that the gelatin part will be least liked because of the texture combination and now the taste itself. This is a great visual treat but if its food, taste is king! I look forward for someone to improve this concept. 😊
I guess it's possible to "lessen the amount of sea". Maybe have a thin layer on top with some deeper puddles here and there!
I think doing a flavoured pectin, made with some fruit juice or lemonade (that has as little colour to it as possible) and maybe adding a bit of sugar to it as well.
I don’t know if you can get the pectin to be set enough to hold its shape and still have a pleasant texture though.
And maybe change the cake flavour or at least make sure the sea and cake flavours compliment each other.
I think adding a coral reef of tiny pieces of strawberries and raspberries divided into individual or small clusters of segments could be both tasty and look good.
And the gelatine/pectin should persevere the fruit really well as well.
Yeah I think if the valleys were less shallow it might help but would be less dramatic looking.
This could be the top tier, and the bottom could be another round cake with a similar color icing to the gelatin
Your joy is inspiring!
Gorgeous Emmy!! Amazing job!
Imagine starting with a bundt cake and having a lake in the middle of your island :)
