My mom loves when I make her strawberry fruit sandwiches. Strawberries and whipped cream are her favorite but she didn’t like the idea of it on bread. She tried it though and really likes it now :) For me they taste best on sweeter white breads like Hawaiian bread.
In a lot of supermarkets now you can find loaves of brioche cut like white bread. That would be the best bet IMO. I'm no fan of whipped cream to be honest though but since its mixed with mascarpone that might be ok. I do like cream cheese and strawberry sandwiches though on brioche or potato bread.
These aren't meant to be replacements for a meal, they're a treat. And they're much lighter on sugar and carbs than cakes or pies or cookies, so it makes a healthier alternative while still satisfying a craving for a lot of ppl. That encourages people to eat healthier instead of giving up bc standard diet desserts or quitting desserts entirely are joyless and unpleasant to them. These are really helpful for a "sugar addiction," actually.
@@caemartin8032 As a diabetic who counts carbs, I would actually say that that's not necessarily true. Many people conflate sugar, calories, and carbohydrates, but carbs and calories can easily stack up in things like this without people realizing because it doesn't feel like a "dessert." Assuming you're eating the whole sandwich, there's about 40 carbs in two slices of bread this size (give or take) and then about 10-20 carbs in the fruit (strawberries have very little; oranges, grapes, and mangoes have a lot). The whipped cream/mascarpone with sugar adds maybe 7 carbs...altogether I'd estimate about 60-65 carbs for one of these sandwiches. That's the same amount of carbs you'd get in a reasonable slice of pie or cake. Yes, you get some fiber from the fruit in this, but white bread has virtually no nutrients and there's very little fruit in these sandwiches. They're very pretty and I think Emmy's talented, so no hate! I just urge people to not confuse stuff with less sugar as being low carb or healthier by default.

When I had an opportunity to go to Japan a few years back, I was a bit bewildered by the term "sando" when I kept encountering it as a foodstuff. In the Philippines, "sando" refers to a thin, sleeveless undershirt. 😅 Anyway, thanks Emmy! You help make my day whenever you post. Also, thanks for being an advocate for adventuresome eating. It helped me convince my young cousin to be open-minded about food and not just stick to hotdogs and porkchops all the time.
I saw these for sale in a sandwich vending machine in Japan! I wondered what the white stuff around the fruit! You did and outstanding job!!! So pretty!! 😀
I saw a shop in Japan that makes these and they use piping bags for the cream to make it easier to apply 😊 these looked so so good 🤤 and so smart to use the Texas toast bread
I just wanna tell you, that watching your videos makes me so happy, I have been through a rough time lately, and watching your videos makes me wanna stay positive and smile ❤️ thank you
The golden kiwi has a beautiful mild flavour, I’m not sure I want fruit in a sandwich but hey it looked pretty. When my song was a baby he wouldn’t eat a grape unless I peeled it lol he is 30 now and still doesn’t like a grape skin lol.note I do not peel them for him any more
Beautiful AND delicious! What more could anyone wish for? Years ago, I lived near Georgetown, Texas, where a couple sold, a the farmers' markets, their own bees' honey, the woman's homemade honey-whole-wheat bread, and in season, the sweetest, most delicious peaches I have ever eaten. I loved making sandwiches with those peaches sliced up on that bread, using only butter. I can just imagine how it would taste with the whipped cream and mascarpone filling!
The last part was the best… it felt real and it made me feel normal. Also: I think Japanese people would do that… 17:45… Seriously I really liked that dance… so unique and ofc. hilarious…

I've seen these sandwiches in other videos and have always found them fascinating. Now that I know how to make them I just may try it lol Thanks for sharing this ;-)
i never knew it was called shokupan, my host mother in japan always called it "tokyo-style bread" lol (which has made it WAY harder to find here, and would explain why I've only ever found it at Mitsuwa)
Beautiful, so satisfying! I love it when you’re happy and pump your arms 😃💪🏼 At first sight I thought these sandwiches were frozen. Must have been the appearance of the cream. Looks tasty!

Those are all so cute!!!! I've had one before from the market bakery and they taste amazing. I'm going to try this with my boyfriend. I'm craving them now
A local boba cafe has strawberry sandwiches are they are so lovely. It’s kind of funny how these Japanese sandwiches tend to use large pieces of fruit! I want to make it myself with thinly sliced fruit to see if I like it better that way. But the larger fruits are very striking and attractive, for sure.

They should be made into bluebells!
I eat whole oranges on a daily basis... what’s the problem?

That’s not an orange tho
I would’ve probably supremed the orange first.

Hands down, my favorite aspect and personality trait of Emmy’s is her excitement when her recipe comes together. So endearing and joyful.
She won’t eat kiwi skin but will eat some of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen 🤣🤣 you def need to make a video on you eating kiwi skin 🤣
Exactly what i thought! 😂 mango skin too
She doesn't like bananas but she's eaten a water bug and mealworms before, Emmy is a lovable weirdo
