Fun tip: if you're struggling to ice your cake without getting LOADS of crumbs in the icing, you can crumb coat it by melting a little ganache to seal in the crumbs. Let the melted ganache coat set and then put the rest of the ganache on. That was definitely learnt from experience :) This tutorial was so helpful to make the jelly taste nice, thank you!!!
I love the fact that you mentioned making the jelly “taste good”! This was by far the best island cake tutorial I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!
Omg! What a fantastic video tutorial! I had never heard of this. I made my first attempt at this cake and I made a few mistakes including I lost about half of my jello 😢 but it was fun to do. I'll keep watching and get it right next time. Thanks for helping to enhance my baking skills..👍
I swear I am gonna make this😍 When I first saw the jello island cake on trend I was like," eww...a jello cake is not tasty no matter how pretty it looks" But now I am making this😍😍 Thank youuuuu
It worked! It worked!! Thank you oh so much!! My saga began when one of our g-kids requested a sand crab for his 6th bday cake the end of September. Well, there was no way I was going to make a gross cake that would look like a giant flea on steroids..... Then I thought, OK, I’ll do Conor’s Day at the Beach and include some sand crabs. I was thinking about a pool cake I’d seen somewhere years ago with jello used for the water. Then the search/research began. Holy cow, little did I know it is the cake thing for 2020 😳. I made a rectangular shaped cake, built myself a cake collar then thankfully found one in a small local bake shop, ordered the acetate and away we went. I made Conor’s head out of fondant and “buried” him in the sand, kite stuck up in the dunes, sand castle, shark coming out of the water towards him, 17 minuscule hand crafted fondant sand crabs, lots of little details out of fondant on the shore. I used toys for in the ocean to save time. He was ecstatic, “Grammy, you remembered my sand crabs!”. You’re instructions were great. I sealed the bottom with white chocolate instead of chocolate ganache, didn’t paint waves/foam; just used buttercream, which looked great. The only difficulty I had was my gelatin mix got too firm and I had to warm it a little on the stove (no microwave). It is truly amazing when you take the acetate off and it holds its shape. Wow, wow, wow, thank you, thank you, thank you!!
This is lovely! I found this because I was wondering if it's possible to make these cakes TASTE good (like I know they look phenomenal but if I make this for a friend, I'd like them to enjoy it all the way around) This deserves so many more views and likes this is a wonderful video! Thank you for it :D You make very wonderful cakes! (I've only just found your channel but it's very lovely from the few cakes I've seen just in this video. I'll definitely be checking out more!

Thank you so much! Have you ever checked out our cake school? I have this tutorial that might be able to help sugargeekshow.com/class/animal-crossing-birthday-cake-tutorial/
I’m so excited to attempt this type of cake! Thanks for another fabulous tutorial your my hero😘 how far in advance can u make this and does it need to be stored in the fridge? How long can it be out at room temp before it starts melting or is it like a gummy candy? TIA
Happy Birthday Avalon! Such a cutie pie a day what an awesome Mommy you have! This cake looks amazing! It's the first one of its kind I've seen so I'm guessing it will be a favorite! Thank you for another amazing tutorial where you make anything appear doable!
Hi Liz! I’m 12 years old and I live in Gresham oregon. I love to baje and have been looking into your online classes. I just wanted to ask if you could give some more information about them. Thank you for your time and for always posting great videos!

Hi Liz. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm dying to try it and your tips are fantastic! Could you please tell me if I can freeze this cake with the jello? Thank you!! 💗🌸💗
So I have never eaten one of these and also not super experienced with cakes ...does the ganache stop the cake from going soggy? Can you use other types of icing?
I’m so glad I found this! I’ve been watching some videos on how to make them and I couldn’t see how they would taste good at all. If I was making this for a birthday party how far in advance could you make it? Is starting 2 days in advance too soon?
That's the whole point of those cakes thought, they're just for show, make an amazing looking one or stick with something that doesn't have that foul jello texture all together
Any tips for how to suspend gummy fish in the jello? I’ve tried letting it set and cutting the surface and pushing them down, which tears up the jello surface. I also experimented with letting some set a little, adding the candy, then pouring more jello, and I get a visible line where I do that. I’ve never really worked with Jello and I’m stressing haha. Thanks for all your content. You have really leveled up my cake making skills through the pandemic.
Yes! I did a tutorial with that technique for my daughter’s birthday cake. The tutorial is part of my cake school, you can sign up for a 7 day free trial and cancel right away if this is the only tutorial you need. 😊 sugargeekshow.com/class/animal-crossing-birthday-cake-tutorial/
I'm new to your channel and you are amazing at what you do! I'm a beginner at baking and I'm trying to learn to make my daughter baptism cake, can you do a video on that as a guide for me? And I wanted to know what vanilla extract would you recommend? I've tried different brands but none taste good
I really want to make this cake, but the recipe you're showing is different from the measurements that you're using. How much of the gelatin did you put in your pot? Thank you so much, it looks beautiful.
Brenda Dumas yes I know, the video says it’s a triple batch because it was for my daughters huge animal crossing cake. The amount you need for the 6” cake is what’s listed.

Do you think this is safe to make ahead a few days, or do you think the jelly anything in the jelly will get weird?
Hi, is the citric acid a must? If so, can I use lemon extract as substitute?
Nobody wants a leaky ring 😆 This is the best jelly cake I’ve seen so far!
Liz love you tutorials! Please help me why are my fondant decorations melting inside the gelatin?
Do you have a recipe to make a smaller batch of the gelatin..?
Is there something I can use besides the acetate?
I'm new to your channel and you are amazing at what you do! I'm a beginner at baking and I'm trying to learn to make my daughter baptism cake, can you do a video on that as a guide for me? And I wanted to know what vanilla extract would you recommend? I've tried different brands but none taste good
That's a nice birthday cake for A SURFER 🏄♂️DUDE 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

Can I use Italian Swiss meringue buttercream?
Maribel Millan yes you can use Italian or Swiss 😊
Do you think I can make this using agar agar?
Красота👍❤️
How much gelatin for the triple batch
Hi is it compulsory to use citric acid?
If I use blue flavoured jello do I still need to and flavoured extract?
Can I use pectin instead of citric acid?
Wow....🙏❤
how long can this type of cake sit out of the fridge before it turns liquidy or does it at all?
Yes I was wondering the same question?
Impossible to order anything online now when needing something within a few days. I guess I’m stuck with Knox
