I have a barred rock but mine is smaller and its barely started to lay eggs, just yesterday I found her first ever egg it was the cutest thing ever. I've had her since she was a chick long with another chicken I'm not aware of his breed but he's brown and it looks like he has a gray beard its adorable. My Barred rock is named peep, and the other one is named boop.
It has varied for all of our chickens, but typically around 18 weeks old or so they started to lay.. give or take a little bit. We noticed for many of them when they were about ready to lay their combs were darker instead of pale, and they would squat when a rooster tried to do his business, or if you tried to pick them up.
@@easystreetfarms9205 We have five roosters and five hens that are almost 17 weeks old and a new batch that are all hens about 4 weeks old. We plan to harvest four of the roosters in two or three weeks. The roosters are starting to mount the hens. The are protesting and generally run away, but sometimes just wait until it is over I was wondering if this was any indication that they are ready to lay.
Let's all take a moment to appreciate all of the hard work out girls do to bring us our delicious farm fresh eggs. 🐔🥚

Shud have let her cluck for the camera, too! A truly amazing thing to do. Let her brag!!!
hey, you go girl! that was awesome.
How old were they when they started? I have two that are just 5 months. They show signs that are ready to lay but aren't laying yet.
