Chickens are a little scary naturally to me. Then they get broody. And they’re even scarier. You can sense the rage radiating from every feather. See the way she stares you down.
It’s good that you get to her early on, because the longer you wait and let her be broody, the more hormones she will have build up inside her and then she will become more difficult to get out of that broody stage. And quite possibly become aggressive.
You should have left her alone with the golf balls lol. She would probably eventually realize that they aren’t real and that they aren’t going to hatch.
Your big buff is pretty good natured for a broody. I've had my chickens attack my hands, hiss and growl at me. My copper maran was the worst, the minute it warmed up in spring, she'd go broody. She'd often have to spend a few days in chicken jail to snap out of it.
My mom had hen, she used to grab them and throw them in the swimming pool to make them stop being broody, they just used to swim back and become normal...

You can cure hens from this..... My grandfather used to keep a broody hen with a wooden box placed upside down on it. It should be a big box with enough space between the wood. The hen still need water, air and light. Place a couple of heavy rocks on top and let it out after 3 days. In most cases this solves the issue.
we had a buff who was determined to brood. she would brood even with no eggs. Our only solution was to let her hatch them. She hatched them, & never brooded again. We still have her, she is ancient. She too would get very mad at us when we would kick her out of the nest so she could eat & drink water. Crazy to think they will brood themselves to death.
Mine used to do that. I have the same species of hen. I had to make her sleep in an old coop for 3-5 days until she forgot about being broody. I also had to not let them in the newer coop. But none of my hens are broody anymore. Thank gosh. 😂😂

She's PISSED. We had a hen that went Broody last year and I had to force her out to eat and drink. She pecked the hell outta me every time.
I had to keep putting her out so that she would eat sometimes I'll get pretty skinny if they are not forced to feed
