Battlefield 2042 is officially done with new content after Season 7: Turning Point, and has canceled the hopes of any further development. Perhaps it was for the best?

I think if they were to restart the franchise or go back to their roots, I think a new and improved battlefield Vietnam would be a good call. Nothing like it has been published within recent years it was a simple conflict to mimic into a multiplayer game
What a strange ride. The game was genuinely getting better but the fact is that they were basically having to rebuild the game entirely to do it, and it still never felt like it found it's own identity. A lot of the recent content was adding things from previous games while, ironically, portal was just completely shelved as an idea. The deja vu to V is not a good sign. It seems like they're even more desperate for COD's marketshare then when Riccitiello was pushing DICE to make a "cod killer" with BF3, except now that's even harder to do because so many other franchises are already established GaS that players are not willing to drop. Whatever shows up is going to be a product to recoup 2042's failure first and a good Battlefield second, if at all. Just a major bummer all around man.
I kept an eye on this game from launch to see how it was doing, I figured it would launch really poorly but eventually it would be a pretty solid game. It seemed to take this game a REALLY long time to get its **** together. I finally decided to start playing it and its been super fun! Surprised it lasted this long. I hope the next game is nothing less than excellent but my confidence is at an all time low and I don’t see them learning the right lessons from all this (as they didn’t from BFV).
I wish they'd do a reset. But wasn't there talk that they will use battlefield 2042 as a base for all upcoming games using the same characters and universe?
Stopped playing 2042 back in season 2, between game bugs and lack of content (as a single player "player" was really disappointed with no campaign, its refreshing to take a break from the sweaty multiplayer while still having a battlefield experience), went back to previous battlefields, although the campaign for bf3 was kind of all over the place, bf4s campaign wasnt far from bf3s, i still enjoyed them. i think thats why battlefield 1 did so well, i personally fell in love with the immersion of bf1s campaign, i find myself going back to play them over and over. Im hoping for a similar battlefield to bf4, so many weapons at launch, premium even though i dont like the idea of paying for dlcs, i still felt it was worth every penny, enjoyed every dlc especially the throwback maps from bf3, the progression felt like accomplishments, i felt good for unlocking the weapons and gadgets rather than spending a little extra to skip progression. Also the little things, such as easter eggs and the phantom project was just 🤌. Hopefully they bring back that same energy with the new battlefield. I definitely will NOT be preordering. Ill wait a bit to see what they offer.
All we ask for the best features of Battlefield bad company to Battlefield V. Jusr give us that and I'll swear ill give DICE/EA all the money in the world to play it.
Destruction, squad play, class sistem, grounded gameplay, balanced weapons, balanced gameplay between infantry and vehicles, server browser, NO MORE HEROES
It’s like putting down a family pet. It had a good life, got old, couldn’t stand up on its own any more. All you can do it’s take it out back and put old yeller down.
This feelsmore like a good family pet has been dead for years and you got the same bred/look similar but they are "not" the same....the Battlefield that we knew isn't with us anymore and whats present isn't Battlefield.
ideally if they could come up with some manner of a.i for detecting exploits/cheats/hacks that'd be amazing. It's the players that use that s**t that sours me for online gaming.
I just hope we get the class system back and completely ditch the operator gimmick in favor of individual character customization (e.i accessories and clothing items) that respects your class and faction that you are playing, so that classes are still discernible from each faction. Operators would work ONLY if they are battle pickups like in BF1 so their abilities are limited to just a handful of players at a time and they should respect factions, no clones.
Hey Flakfire I've only played one BF game and that was BF1 I only habe 24hrs on it I kinda got discouraged cause there was basically 5 snipers on the other side of the map killing me so I haven't really played much of it. Firstly there's a few BF titles that I want to see which are WW2,WW1,Cold War,Modern,Futuristic so I am aware that we got BF1 and I think the game is perfect I just want to have more stories for the campaign tbh but the chances of that are basically zero but for now I want... ● Modern Era ( 2024-2025 or 2026 ) ● Campaign with stories like BF1 and BF5 ( something like choices of a country to pick for example Ukraine and you'll then be able to play as a Ukrainian Soldier or have multiple choices of what kinda person or branch of Military you want to be in ). ● Zombies Mode ( I'm still kinda debating whether this is something I'd want to see but I have a feeling that it would be hated due to COD already having Zombies but I think it could be quite cool ) . ● Battle Royale Mode ( we got Warzone but that seems to be quite bad at the moment so this could be something that kinda surpasses Warzone and Firestorm seems like a really fun mode ). ● In terms of building the game itself I think development time should be 4yrs and then live for another 4yrs after release and have a season every 3-4 months meaning it would have either 12 or 16 seasons it does sound like alot I probably wouldn't be opposed to having a season every 6 months if that means we get more content. I would like to basically have 7-14 of different weapons at launch so basically 7-14 Assault Rifles to start off with and maybe have 10-15 maps at release. And then for each season they'd add maybe 3-5 new weapons and 2-4 maps per season too.
I think hit the nail on the head when you suggested that they needed to improve their development process. Clearly they were unable to devote the amount of resources necessary to deliver what the community had come to expect from previous titles.
I've played battlefield since 1942 on my dads computer. I can't properly express how disinterested I am in a Narrative Campaign and Shared Battlefield Universe. I just want a solid MP shooter. Mostly because none of the attempts so far have been particularly great, none of these campaigns would be able to survive as standalone games. I'll be happy if they design something fun and representative of Battlefield's unique MP assets, but if it's another linear corridor shooter with zero room for creative and tactical considerations, then I won't be bothering. I just want a solid, balanced MP.
just make BF 4.5 with the BF3 setting, customization of BF4, the athmosphere and epicness of BF1, and the movement/gunplay/vehicle/destruction/squad mechanics of BFV and we're done FOREVER. If DICE fucks it up, the i'll spend my life in the BF4-BF1-BFV bermuda triangle forever
I was one of the numbnuts who preordered the game because I rode the hype train on the way in. Took the day off work, stayed up all night playing on release day, etc. I still feel jipped about my preorder. More than anything, I feel jipped that we have had 2 battlefield games now where the creative direction that was taken, at least initially, was anything but the Battlefield formula. The potential of the franchise is way to big for mindless, ignorant managers to think they can follow trends and have everything turn out okay. Extremely sad. The community can't, and won't, take another loss
My biggest problems with 2042 were the Crossplay and No server Browser. DO NOT cross Pc with console players unless you have a m&k supported in those consoles. Crossplay between consoles is fine. Also...no server browser? No one should argue for a basic thing like a server browser, just like a scoreboard and no bugs...
Now they have one chance to get it right with Battlefield 6. If I could choose i want a full blown Vietnam with a gritty single player story in the vein of Bad Company 1&2, and a classic Battlefield MP. Nothing fancy. Just solid BF
The new ea/dice bf model goes like this. Release trash product, drag their feet getting it to a playable state, call it a day and move on. Sucks for us, the people who pay for it.
As someone who had been playing the Battlefield series since 2 I’m glad we got so many good ones and sad what it has come to. I don’t care about the next one as I feel that current Dice no longer knows how to build the BF experience much less how to improve it. On top of that EA won’t want to stop squeezing as much money as they can from the community that still wants to play the next BF game. Whatever the next BF game is (if there is one) I don’t think it will be worth the $70.
You know with how the gaming sphere is currently its extremely unlikey that it won't be just that...I really don't have hope for a good new BF game.(could be proven wrong but im not gonna hold my breath)
Played it Open beta. Game was so insanely broken, I knew it would launch poorly. I learned from Bf5 not to preorder, I waited to see the when the game launched, and man i glad i did. They had a free weekend not long after that, tried it 3-4 matches and uninstalled it. Then again at season 4 they had a free weekend..tried it again. Still bad and because of the launch and everything surrounding that, I knew then that i would never play this game again. Not only did this affect me personally from playing battlefield, but i stopped watching bf content creators completely. I used to watch you all the time. Havent seen a video in like 1-2 years. Game broke my bf spritit. And i have very low expectations for the new bf title
Yeah, unlike with BFV, I'm actually glad to hear this game's support is ending. It was so fundamentally flawed down to the very core mechanics that there was no way they were ever going to be able to make this game truly great. They did what they could to bring it to an acceptable state. I think (or hope) they also understand that they just can't make this game great unless they basically rebuild it from the ground up, and at that point why not just make a brand new game anyways.
Major disappointment as you could tell that it was suposed to be a battle royal and no matter what they did they could not change that i hope the next game is back to 64 players and a return to form
Wonderful video, and thanks for the thoughts Flak. I'm very excited for your 2042 post-mortem! This is great news to me as well. I uninstalled a week after S7 because I just couldn't take it anymore. Seems EA thought the same lol Anyways, hope the next BF game is good man! I really miss hearing all of my favorite content creators being excited about BF. Some day soon we may all enjoy a BF game together! 🤞🤞🤞
I played bf 2042 a lot but it just didn't feel like battlefield. No destruction. The maps were just bad. The vehicles were super annoying compared previous games. The class system ☠️. It kinda reminds me of WoW when they started to forget what made the game so good in WoD and onwards.
Just put bf to rest, do not tarnish the name...do not do same as with moh(making into vr)...just put those IPs to rest. Let us remember BF for what it was, there is no sense of killing all that bf stands for with 1000 cuts death
I'm not getting my hopes up on the new Battlefield after we heard it's going to get an F2P Battle Royal. If somehow that gamemode became successful, it's all over for the Battlefield we all know and love.
I ain't gonna lie B Battlefield is not surviving. I feared another performance like BF5 will be the end for its mainstay popularity, like cutting it short, bad launch. Bf2042 is just that
Quite frankly if the next battlefield game looks good, I'll buy it used just to spite EA. And that's if I'm really convinced the game is actually good.
Really dice and EA needs a home run on the next title. If they fail you can almost promise the battlefield will be dead and never made again year after year it has costed more to make not then what they made off of the game.
its a wonder they made this last 3 years but cut off BF V so quickly :Dthey said bf will be dead if after BF V is no success...well I woulndt call 2042 a sucess, and yet they make another one, so that is good for the franchise :)
I blame EA just like I blame Activision, there are people who don't belong there, who make terrible decisions and look at games as a business model ,and not a source of entertainment. People have lost touch with what makes a good game, the focus now is to monetize the living hell out of every facet. I dont know why it's okay to release a broken, unfinished and unpoloished game. The death of AAA titles is upon us.
This was EA's first good choice since Battlefield 1's release. Bf 2042 was always and will be a badly designed game which had an amazing campaign opportunity but the left out the only thing that could improve this game. 3:02 BUT WHY?!? The campaign was the only thing that could have been a good startingpoint in a Bf game. This shows how horrible EA is.
Stopped playing in S2 and never looked back. But honestly I don’t really trust the IP anymore. V was a mess, 2042 was even worse. I think the people that made the game feel like it used to have moved on, so I don’t think future installments are gonna get better until they sell the IP to Embark.
The biggest problem I saw with bfv and bf2042 is that at the launch there was a lot of Hate. And hate spreads like a disease. As a result, many more people hated the game. Just try to make something better when everyone looks down on it. We must restrain ourselves from the hatred of others and play the game ourselves. I liked bf2042 but all the hate made it hard to like. I hope things turn out well for the next game
The hate was deserved the game was a mess at launch and felt nothing like an actual Battlefield game. Devs shouldn’t be let off releasing a game in a poor state at full price. Even now the game has improved but it’s still not a great Battlefield game DICE has lost their way and lost a lot of the fanbase in the process.
Imagine just launching the game in a working state. This all could have been avoided. BF1 is arguably the high water mark of the series in my opinion, and although I enjoyed BFV…it’s been downhill since we left the trenches
Maybe DICE can pull out a BF1 type miracle for the next one... Glad I skipped 2042 after being let down by BFV. The next one needs to have the atmosphere and epic battle feel of BF1 for me. It was clear that BF1 was a labour of love and the last two games have felt more like cash-cows than a passion project.
@7:00 its honorable but people payed full price for a game that is in shambles for most of its life. Its their job to make a good product and they didn't deliver
That's just how it works out sometimes

I still don’t understand the narrative of this game 🤣
I dont know a single person that plays battlefield or even mentions its name its been dead since battlefield 4 unfortunately.
All we need is literally BF4 2.0, it's that easy. Screw these "Specialists" just give us the good old Battlefield experience.
I enjoyed the game in its later stages. As bad as the launch was, i like it now, I can only hope the new one is volumes better.
At 2:54 you said “The best battlefield title is Officially In Development”. That is such a stupid name for a battlefield game.
for real “Battlefield: In development” what is it gonna be fucking construction maps?
I still can't believe they ended support for Battlefront 2 for this crap.
Still mad that i spent so long trying to improve my FPS at launch that went over the refund playtime period. Still stuck in my throat
● Modern Era ( 2024-2025 or 2026 )
● Campaign with stories like BF1 and BF5 ( something like choices of a country to pick for example Ukraine and you'll then be able to play as a Ukrainian Soldier or have multiple choices of what kinda person or branch of Military you want to be in ).
They have to go back to the old classes, weapon upgrades etc. Just don't change something that's working, like in BF3 and BF4
I think hit the nail on the head when you suggested that they needed to improve their development process. Clearly they were unable to devote the amount of resources necessary to deliver what the community had come to expect from previous titles.
it would be quite a decent game, but they can't even make a good/simple map for it .
Never checked in after launch. Funny how this is the next thing I see about this game
Still playing warzone since after battlefield 5... hopefully the next title will bring me back, I really miss the old Battlefields.
I went in and played today just a little bit ago and there's no one online
just make BF 4.5 with the BF3 setting, customization of BF4, the athmosphere and epicness of BF1, and the movement/gunplay/vehicle/destruction/squad mechanics of BFV and we're done FOREVER.
It is like yesterday that you made video for bf5 ending and now for bf2042
We only thing that i hope is that EA gives time and Budget (and maybe BF1 remake with more content)
No bs live service battle pass then maybe i would play
You know with how the gaming sphere is currently its extremely unlikey that it won't be just that...I really don't have hope for a good new BF game.(could be proven wrong but im not gonna hold my breath)
If next years release is going to be smooth, the game better be pretty much done by now
Remember when DICE told us: "You have two choices: either accept it or don't buy the game" for BF5?
I do hope they'll wont dismiss Battlefield Portal as I think it deserves a second chance.
When jump shots aren't really a viable option and sliding from a barely moving standing position isn't a thing. That might reel me back in.
Oh yeah and also the "special operators". What happened to generic soldiers?
@@kittytoe139Generic soldiers are confirmed for the next game
My dream would be they go back and update battlefield 1 I know it’s a low low chance but it would be awesome
Always happy for your videos to release. Miss you
I honestly forgot this game existed.
Wonderful video, and thanks for the thoughts Flak. I'm very excited for your 2042 post-mortem!
This is great news to me as well. I uninstalled a week after S7 because I just couldn't take it anymore. Seems EA thought the same lol
Anyways, hope the next BF game is good man! I really miss hearing all of my favorite content creators being excited about BF. Some day soon we may all enjoy a BF game together! 🤞🤞🤞
Hopefully something like BF 1
Never pre ordering a battlefield tittle again. And ive been a bf fiend since battlefield 1942
Sorry if this comes off as abrasive, but where the hell are your sources? i couldn't find anything else about this
I played bf 2042 a lot but it just didn't feel like battlefield. No destruction. The maps were just bad. The vehicles were super annoying compared previous games. The class system ☠️.
It kinda reminds me of WoW when they started to forget what made the game so good in WoD and onwards.
I need Flak to make another video
Just put bf to rest, do not tarnish the name...do not do same as with moh(making into vr)...just put those IPs to rest. Let us remember BF for what it was, there is no sense of killing all that bf stands for with 1000 cuts death
I'm not getting my hopes up on the new Battlefield after we heard it's going to get an F2P Battle Royal. If somehow that gamemode became successful, it's all over for the Battlefield we all know and love.
Hell thats whats happen with the latest CoD, Main focus is warzone and all balance for that and not for the mulitiplayer side. :(
“Well that was fun”
I ain't gonna lie B
Battlefield is not surviving.
Thank god i got this on discount.
Right... now let's not repeat the same mistake of buying the next Battlefield. Let them cook for a while.
A good campaign and new compelling characters hopefully some well know actors
Well deserved hate. They earned it for turning BF into COD. This franchise is so screwed.
its hard to be excited about anything from this franchise.
Every battlefield since 4 people complained at launch and it always gets worked on over time
The one thing that would bring me back, is a new PC. mine can't handle bf2042...(((
@7:00 its honorable but people payed full price for a game that is in shambles for most of its life. Its their job to make a good product and they didn't deliver
I just want a better BFV, And by better, I mean REMADE from the ground up.
Wheres my BFV and 1 peeps at?
Dice needs to improve their live service bullcrap, 1 map every 3 months is insanely bad and slow.
