    Part of the mastiff family, they are intelligent & caring dogs that have been used as working dogs because of their guarding and herding abilities.

    I have a Cane Corso (Otis - 150lbs) about the same age as Zeus. Everything said about the breed in this video is 100% true. Whenever I used to travel for work, security was always something I thought about, but now that Otis is at home on duty I no longer think about that. He would lay down his own life for his family, and he is spoiled accordingly.
    This breed is so amazing. What an incredible family friend he has become.

    • @C-24-Brandan
      @C-24-Brandan 7 місяців тому

      @@taetrrtot6205 talk to people who train personal protection, research breeders who focus on hunting/personal protection lines. Romania and a few other countries have really good breeders, there are also a few in the U.S that breed actual working line cane corsos. But searching and doing research online and so on is the best way to start. Same with any dog breed you're looking for specific traits or working capabilities.

      You watched a 12 minute video and assume they don’t work their dog. How realistic in todays society is it to have a war dog anyway? Smh 🤦🏻‍♂️ cmon with the elitist attitude and the “true representation” bs .

    • @lp9476
      @lp9476 7 місяців тому +5

      @@Watts24fps what an odd response to a pretty innocuous comment! I didn’t mention “war” dogs (particularly as that’s a dubious snapshot of ancestry millennia past), nor did I mention “work”… was this meant to go on another comment, by any chance? As for elitism, if noting a dog’s deviation from a breed standard, whilst saying it’s nevertheless perfect as a pet, and the right dog for its owners, is elitist… then I’m sorry. My intention with my comment was to inform those unaware that this is not what these dogs are usually like, if bred to standard, because I have seen far too many people in my country giving up Corsi to rescues, pounds, and even PTS, because they were expecting a chill mastiff-type instead of a fairly intense working breed. If we’re going to make informative videos about breeds, then it should be our goal to give a fair representation to the public if we want the best for that breed. Again, though, I’m sorry if my comment seemed offensive; I’m just very passionate about “the right dog for the right home” as a concept.

    The dog looks more Neo and 170 is too big .big isn't always best but it seems everything in the USA is huge. He's panting like it's an effort to breath normally and because of his size it's going to put a strain on his heart. This breed was the most agile mastiff but I doubt it will be for long.

    To see the Corso at the dog park looking like a big powder cake dog just breaks my heart. Everything is changing for the worst though. These people want to take out the natural nature of these dogs to make them more marketable and it only hurts the owners. When the time comes for a real need for protection, these new "rescued" breeds will be as useless as a $100,000 car that won't start. Soon Cane Corsos will be at dog parks wearing tutus getting bullied by Chihuahuas.

    We have a constant problem where our large 170 lbs cane corso gets picked on by dogs. dogs scream when he walks by and their owners freak out at us and our dog never even locked at him. My hope is that people educate themselves, that not all dogs, regardless of size are automatically aggressive. Learn the warning signs, how to properly approach a dog etc. I know as a parent, that was one thing we did to priorities even before we got our new dog....ask, let the dog come to you, never approach from behind...etc.

    I've watched quite a few videos on large breeds. I wonder how many people in the suburbs are readily concerned about their safety and the need for protection (which seems to be a common theme and locale from my observation). I've raised a 75lb staffy and live in a city with many crime-related incidents. Still, I've never felt the need for my dog to protect me or my wife. (The dog's presence alone is usually an a-hole deterrent.)
    I look forward to raising a Cane Corso and understanding their protective nature. Still, I wouldn't want my dog needlessly in harm's way. I wonder if an owner harbors a fearful disposition if it unduly influences the dog's threat response.

    I would say I've had a few big mastiff that behaved just like yours until they hit 2.5 - 3 years and its like flicking a switch . Any strange dogs and people ad they are willing to react hower they see fit , can be a dangerous time for everyone involved. I alway tell people with immature dogs that who say "oh my dogs friendly" . Yeah hes friendly till hes not anymore, can train through it most of the time but you need to be ready for that first reaction to avoid tradedy

Socialisation is great but if and when they decide they are guard dogs it all goes out the window . Our current boy lunged at a random man in a pub one day whilst I was eating lunch luckily on lead but was inches away from disaster. Happens in the blink of an eye for seemingly know reason , from then on most strangers and strage dogs were a threat and training was difficult. It's normally at the point you think you've nailed training cause it's going so well with obedience and recall etc

Zeus‘ face has a bit resemblance with the Neopolitan Mastiff, that might explain the extreme weight. Zeus is a very cute boy, but from the Standard view a bad representative for the breed.
