Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz completed the 2024 NFL Draft with 9 selections and 1 trade and came away with great players. PFF, ESPN, The Ringer, The Athletic and almost every NFL reporter gave the Chargers draft grade an A.
The Chargers signed 21 UDFA after the 2024 NFL Draft and they were: Karsen Barnhart, Casey Bauman, Luke Benson, Akeem Dent, Jaelen Gill, Thomas Harper, Zach Heins, Savion Jackson, Jeremiah Jean-Baptiste, Leon Johnson, Jaylen Johnson, Robert Kennedy, Micheal Mason, Tre'Mon Morris-Brash, Tyler McLellan, Willis Patrick, Jalyn Phillips, Tyler Smith, Zamari Walton, Luquay Washington, Bucky Williams.
The Chargers drafted Joe Alt, Ladd McConkey, Junior Colson, Justin Eboigbe, Tarheeb Still, Cam Hart, Kimani Vidal, Brenden Rice, and Cornelius Johnson.
Brenden Rice was drafted to the Chargers in the 7th round this is the steal of the draft potentially! Cornelius Johnson and Kimani Vidal are also drafted in the 6th and 7th round but also keep an eye out for UDFA signings. @Michael...I give it an A as well. Once Marvin Harrison Jr was gone at #5, I was fine with Alt. Getting McConkey A+, Colson A+, Cam Hart in the 5th A, Rice A+ in the 7th. I 'm a Trojan fan as well as the Bolts and Rice balled out even when USC was caving in

A. If they had taken Nabors they wouldn't have been able to address Offensive Tackle and it would've gotten worse as the draft went on. They never reached and got a bunch of guys that had fallen. It was an almost perfect draft. They addressed everything oftentimes with multiple picks, everything except Center. But I had been calling for an OT in the first round, I would've liked to have seen a trade-down, but the trade offers weren't there. Masterful draft.
I was never disappointed with the first pick! Fans should be EFFIN FIRED UP!!! I'm old, I give us a straight A. We addressed a lot, still a lot more positions to fill. Full confidence in this regime.

I was not disappointed a lick with the Joe alt pick. The truth is receivers are a dime a dozen and are down way down on the totem pole as far as important to a team. They're like a bus if you miss one you can get the next one is coming by very soon. Somebody also posted all the receivers that will come available for free agency next year which is a lot.
However just think of how many teams struggled with protecting their QB's and how banged up the position has been recently especially ours for that matter. Heck the Giants have had an abysmal OL for 14 years now. This was the most important position pick for our team and I even have video of me at the time of the pic LOL.
Everybody likes the sexy picks but the fact of the matter is order of importance goes QB- OL- D and then receivers.
Think of it this way the quintessential model is the Tom Brady one and what did he have to make him successful most? That is protection -because without it he was as average as any other QB or worse actually. And who was he throwing to all that time? Really no one to speak of with the exception of 3 or 4 over his long career.
My initial reaction for each round of this years draft.
1st Round: "WHAT!?
2nd Round:"...OK."
3rd Round: "Alright!"
4th Round: "Not bad."
5th Round: "Back to back CB's, nice!"
6th Round: "Cool!"
7th Round: "Ohhh I see! Yeah, that Joe Alt pick is starting to make sense. Plus we got a steal out of the 2!"

I’d give them an A. I love the first three picks and I’m kind of excited to see Kimani this year. Lost like 7 games by a field goal last year so with this draft and this roster/coach I think they get double digit wins. Second easiest schedule doesn’t hurt either.

Harbaugh already said Slater is locked in at LT. Alt is moving to RT Hortiz actually mentioned he started off at ND as a RT but moved to LT.

I’ll be totally honest I was one of many that wanted either one of the top two WR’s with that pick 5th overall but with that being said I totally agree with our draft in all,and respect’s go out to GM Joe Hortiz and HC Jim Harbaugh ,I’m extremely excited to see our Chargers grow into a powerhouse with our MEN in charge and that includes the interior coaching staff Bolt Up my brothers ⚡️⚡️⚡️💪💪💪👏😎
I would’ve actually been bummed if we drafted a receiver first round.. even with the receivers we had, after Justin’s rookies season it was tough for him to get the ball to any receiver when he’s running around for his life. Imagine Justin having protection! He could put the ball in anybody’s hands
Nah a lot of the smart fans realized that the draft was 7 rounds and didn't throw a hissyfit just because we didnt take Nabers, Alt was clearly there right pick, however to many fans just wants a new shiny toy instead of an actual winning team
The teams that annually pick the highlight reel picks are consistently in the top-10 picks for a reason. Haven’t people learned that football games are won and lost on the line of scrimmage yet? Give me a gritty, pound-it-out team over a sexy explosive team any day. The afc north teams are always contenders because they have rough and tough teams that wear down their opponents. Run the ball and keep Herbert upright long enough to allow him to be a wizard. On defense, keep the other team from out scoring your elite QB. Good winning formula there. Love the OL pick.

@@addicted2fishing119 alt may be too tall and some of his pass pro (getting pushed back by bull rushers) worries me at the next level(upside: as a rookie he will hopefully be an improvement over pipkins who gave like 9 sacks)…. Ladd is a slot- not an x … we needed both x (to replace Mike w) and slot (to replace kenan) but I would prefer an x with that high a pick…and my biggest worry is that he gets hurt too much and lacks the physicality at the next level (upside: best case scenario he is Julian elderman Jr for us and makes clutch catches in big games) that’s why they are iffy
As bad as pipkins numbers sound the main issue last year was the interior offensive line… all 3 those guys sucked badddd… got Justin hurt and could not allow anyone to run consistently… so that said I wish they had gone 1. Malik 2. JPJ but hindsight 2020 they picked the players they picked and i gonna support them regardless 💯⚡️

Here’s one of my concerns, and why I’m not on the alt bandwagon yet. How much of his size allowed him to dominate in college? Does his size mask deficiency in technique or potential? Anybody who watched him regularly let me know what you think. I felt more comfortable with fuaga to be an immediate impact player. But at least the raiders didn’t get him

Look at who was picked at #11 and #13 in the draft. WE could've/ should've had or LEAST those two!! Or the OT from Oregon, Fatanau ( sp) if we weren't going to take 1 of the top 3 WR'S then WHY didn't they trade down with the Vikes!!! THAT'S ANOTHER thing that PISSES me off!!!
When you have a good QB you just need to keep him upright and let him work.
Remember, Chargers went to the playoffs WITHOUT Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. They lost cause 1) couldnt run the ball and 2) couldn't protect herbert.
There was no other OT like Alt in the draft.

Whoever was advocating for a WR in the 1st round doesn't understand football. Never take a WR in the top 5 picks, and definitely not when you have a chance to get the best OL in the draft. The Chargers had a good draft. That said, they will find a way to Charger it up. New coach, new GM, good draft, but you have the same old owners who will continue to keep the team mired in mediocrity. And this is coming from a former Charger fan who has been following the team since the late 80's.
Payton Wilson will be the best linebacker in the NFL soon and people will wonder how he dropped to the 3rd round. I still like Colson, but damn Wilson would be elite right away and have a higher ceiling under Jessie Minter.

I wasn’t happy w alt after one round but after the whole draft this was probably the best possible outcome we could’ve gotten. The WR depth was far better than the tackle depth outside of r1. Nabers isn’t all that and has character concerns and we got bookend tackles for the next 10-15 years now and 3 new wrs w 2 i expect to be great contributors. It was way better than picking rg in r2 when that isn’t even the problem position on the o line.

@@BratatoChip well technically all teams had a good draft. On paper lots of teams upgrade but won't mean shit till they start playing a good amount of players of chargers are going be a bust same with a lot of teams. Only a handful end up with a long impactful careers

Best draft? Exceptional? They haven’t played one down. I think the metric for success should be how the draft picks actually play in the league.
Joe Alt absorbs too much, he lets himself get pushed backwards right into the quarterback. Ladd McConkey is too fragile, couldn't hold up to the college game.
