The lid remover is good for people who have difficulty gripping lids. They may be able to grasp a handle much easier then a lid. My own grip is compromised due to physical injury and I can tell you that ANYTHING to help a person grip a jar and a lid is amazing. You still need the strength to twist but the actual gripping is what is helped. I've seen and used many items from like what you tried to a simple thin sheet of rubber and all of them have helped far more than you could imagine.
Yes. Also try to open a jar with slippery hands, which is much like a weakened grip. Great tool, been around at least 60 years from memory, probably more.
Exactly! This particular one might be low quality, but the type of grip needed for that handle is MUCH easier to bring to bear than grabbing larger jars. The twisting strength isn’t the issue, it’s the grip. Although if you need more twist you could easily add a lever extension to that tool handle.
Or even if it's just really stuck on there. Like a jar of jelly and some jelly got between lid and jar and it's been a while since you've last used it so it's somewhat glued on. If the lid is on there good enough your hand just starts slipping.
My wife has nerve damage in by her dominant hand thumb. Opening a jar is excruciating. One of the best things Ive given her was one of those lever type jar openers.

I'm pretty sure the jar opener make it easier to open because the force to open isn't centered on your tip of your fingers. So it will help people who have weaker fingers.
This. If you have arthritis, you're not getting that jar open with just your hands. That device lets you use your wrist and palm to counter the force of the seal.
Exactly it gives a much better leverage point. Not to mention that the jaws closing isn't gonna be enough force to compress the lid lol, it'll come loose long before it bends the lid

I need to tell you about that "A Jar Opener" thing. I'm 53 years old. My grandmother had one handed down to her by HER grandmother. That design is older than the hills, and it works by compressing the sides it touches, while deforming the sides that it's not touching, and breaking the vacuum seal on the jar. I think the reason you believe it failed, or was more difficult to use is because of the plastic handle on the thing, and the aluminum the rest is made of. The one that's been making the rounds in my family is made of steel from top to bottom.
Exactly people forget the vacuum seal is what keeps opening the jars the first time difficult. They can be on really tight and I've seen some straight out ridiculous lids that no person could have come up with(completely round with no groves). Sometimes it's a real battle to open a jar. I can see older people having issues for sure or if you have a really weak grip.
I have a jar opener similar to that, it really helps. I've got a fused wrist and limited function in my hand and can't properly grip things. It's a lot easier to grab a handle than lids. Jars are nearly impossible to open otherwise.

6:46 for future reference, when you only have 1 jar. you should've tried to open it without the tool using a very small amount of force. then try with the tool using very small amount of force. then try without the tool medium force. with the tool medium force. etc. until it opens
I used to manage an art framing store and we sold those types of hooks, they worked pretty well, though I never had anyone looking to do 150lbs, and I would’ve sold them something else. But one thing I can think of, very large frames we hang with two hooks from each side of the frame instead of from the center with the wire, because the weight pulls at the corners of the frame and creates gaps where the 45 degree is joined. And also any heavy piece would be wide enough that you would hang from the sides instead of the center just for ease of reach. So, you would use two hooks, and also the weight distribution is changed at that point. May or may not change the outcome.
Tyler the gherkin jar opening tool is not for people who have issue twisting the lid it's for people who have issue gripping onto the lid and twisting, so that Handel really will help tenfold with people who have those issues.
The fishie wiggle can opener works and is great for elderly people who can't use a crank can opener. But so does an electric can opener. My mom had one she loved it. I had one and it didn't last that long. About 6 to 8 months then the batteries die and you forget about it.
That Jar opener design has been around forever. I’m 57 and we had one of those when I was very little. That thing helped me get into our pickles with my little hands.
5:37: There are two problems with pickle jars, the first thing is that the large lid requires you to distribute your strength across a wider area, and the other thing is that the suction created during the canning process holds the lid in place more tightly than the threads of the lid alone. The device you were demonstrating looks like it has ways to address both of those problems, by pinching the lid inwards you can break the vacuum seal that's holding the jar lid in place, and while the handle does require the same amount of force, it also allows the user to concentrate that force with a (theoretically) better grip. At least I think that's what's going on; squeeze the jar lid, break the seal, use the grip and the handle for better leverage.

I have 2 of the hood pillows although mine are foam bean filled.. and we used them on flights and military field missions. The hood being attached to the pillow surprisingly works when you lay you head anywhere
The best can opener in my life ever we had in my house as a kid was the Black and decker gizmo. Tyler, you should absolutely put the gizmo can opener to the ultimate test. (They have been discontinued forever now) only to be purchased on eBay
in the original demonstration for the hercules hook, there were 3 50lb weights mounted on a rack that was supported by 3 hercules hooks. it seems that each hook can individually bear about 50lbs because the weight is evenly distributed, the wall and hooks can support the weight. there's probably just an advertising loophole for the claim that they can support 150lbs, because technically they dont claim that a SINGLE hook can support that much weight: just that it's possible for the product to do that
I have one of the lid removers and it is VERY useful. It can deal with nearly any stuck on lid, even small ones that you can't really get your fingers around. Great for opening jars with annoying lids.
i have a neck illow with a hood that I actually really like. its not a stupid inflatable one. but it works for me because the hood pulls down over my eyes to block out light (which if you are not wearing a hat, does come down more over the eyes). of course, mine has black cat ears on it, but hey, i like silly cutesy things lol i also have an automatic can opener. i have bad hands and cant really use a crack one. they are very helpful but ungodley loud
The jar opener might be easier for someone with grip strength issues. Turning force may be the same, but using with your hand against the handle may be manigablle with limited grip.
Tyler... The can opener worked perfectly both times... It's not cutting anything, it's squeezing the seal that was folded to separate the lid from the barrel of the can. You also don't need to be afraid of cutting yourself, there are no sharp edges. On the second can you just needed to pull a bit more to get the lid off.
Neither of those things are true. Those can openers cut below the fold rather than cut into the lid. They're less likely to cut you because you can handle the lid by the outer perimeter, but it's still sharp on the can and the underside of the lid.
I feel like it takes the right kind of person to like the hoodie neck pillow becouse as a ADHD person that loves her ears covered but hates long sleeves like hoodies this sounds amazing
I have one of the can openers, it works fine lol. Edit: The hooks have been around forever, my mom told me they were called "monkey hooks". They also work fairly well.

For jar issue with lids. If you got a jar and can't open it , take a butter knife or something safe and push it between lid lip area and jar . All you doing is breaking the air seal , Top of lid sometimes pop up when done right .So don't freak out , lid should be easy to get off now .
I think the jar opener is easier for people who have limited grip strength, which you are unlikely to have. The handle on it allows you to close your hand much more tightly than around that jar. It will also make it much easier to open a jar if it or your hands are greasy.
Could you test different types of denture cleaners for false teeth to see which is the best one? Blueberries are tough stains to get out. It would be nice to see which is the best for the money. Walmart brand, Dollar General brand against the Polident. There’s 3 min to overnight kind. Thank you.
My thought with the electric can open was omg so slow, I could probably open 2 cans in the time it takes for the one. Only reason to use this like the jar opener is hand issues.
The point of the jar lid opener is for people who lack the squeezing power in their hands to get enough grip on the lid (or mind the pain gripping so tightly can cause). Yes it still needs the same twisting force to open the lid but now you can do it (if working right) with a handle that doesn't also need the squeezing/gripping strength that opening one with just hands requires. So yes if twisting ability is the problem this isn't the right aid but you missed out on the point of it removing the need to squeeze a lid hard for grip.
The jar openers design is technically Easier for the elderly cause it’s a lot easier to grip that handle then a lid for the elderly. But yes it takes the same amount of force and could add more friction and difficulty based on it squeezing the lid into the jar!
7:55 to put it into better perspective. You yourself don't have to squeeze hard on a round surface. Instead giving you a grip that can't slip because instead of being a circle, it's a lever
this handle for jar opening really work, eldery ppl don't have problem with not having enough strength to open the raj, but to get and maintain a grip on the lid, this handle remove that obstacle
the jar opener would be good for someone with little hands I guess. A wider grip isn't as strong as a more closed grip. I tried that "Erase A Hole" on my father.... He's still here.....

in the original demonstration for the hercules hook, there were 3 50lb weights mounted on a rack that was supported by 3 hercules hooks. it seems that each hook can individually bear about 50lbs because the weight is evenly distributed, the wall and hooks can support the weight. there's probably just an advertising loophole for the claim that they can support 150lbs, because technically they dont claim that a SINGLE hook can support that much weight: just that it's possible for the product to do that
I really miss Billy Mays

Also you gotta bring back the dummy you destroyed hahaha
At the true value by my house there's a sort of glue for copper pipe. A "non solder" connection. I'd love to see you review that!!
How long does the erase a hole take to dry? Does it hold up? How big of a hole could it REALLY fill? Actually intrigued on the stuff.
The bottle opener is old school. Like from the 60's. The Hercules hooks are so old the guy on the box has been dead for years! hahahaha
Hey can you do more things in jars? I would love to see skunk essence for the liquid. Thank you.
The neck pillow with the hood would be great for a house without a furnace. It's cold without heat in the winter.
I got one of those can openers when I had hand surgery. It was so wonderful!
I love how Tyler determined that the stud finder was working! 🤣
My stomach hurts from laughing so hard. Tyler is hilarious. I just subscribed. 😂😂😂
The stud finder works!😂that joke had me crying😂
The point of the jar lid opener is for people who lack the squeezing power in their hands to get enough grip on the lid (or mind the pain gripping so tightly can cause). Yes it still needs the same twisting force to open the lid but now you can do it (if working right) with a handle that doesn't also need the squeezing/gripping strength that opening one with just hands requires.
So yes if twisting ability is the problem this isn't the right aid but you missed out on the point of it removing the need to squeeze a lid hard for grip.
I love having a hoodie pillow! I use one all the time. Great for napping on the couch
The jar openers design is technically Easier for the elderly cause it’s a lot easier to grip that handle then a lid for the elderly. But yes it takes the same amount of force and could add more friction and difficulty based on it squeezing the lid into the jar!
Yes the can opener worked, but it was painfully slow.
I wonder if his batteries were ok-although those openers tend to be slow anyway.
Man I’m glad I found your channel. I’ve watched a few of your videos and you rock man. Keep it up!
I love you’re videos but you should definitely make them longer if you got the time ❤️
