Before this, I was listening to a podcast by a very successful UA-camr whom I really admire, but I couldn't even make it through the entire hour. However, when I listen to Jay Shetty's podcast, I feel incredibly excited to learn. I find myself watching and rewatching his episodes because they're so engaging and insightful. You truly have a unique way of connecting with your audience, Mr. Jay Shetty, and your content is inspiring!
I always enjoy hearing Chris Voss speak because the tone of his voice is soothing. He’s also an excellent storyteller. Highly recommend his book: “Never Split the Difference”
Key Takeaways: - Empathy as a Superpower: Understanding and articulating the other party’s emotions is key to successful negotiation. - Collaboration Over Conflict: Reframing negotiation as a collaborative effort leads to better outcomes than traditional conflict-driven approaches. - Preparation and Perspective: Preparing by summarizing the other party’s viewpoint and using "no-oriented" questions can prevent conflict and build trust. - Value Alignment: Recognizing when values don’t align in relationships, whether personal or professional, is crucial to avoid wasted effort.
Wow this was amazing!!! I watched it late at night liked it so much I watched the next day to make notes. Then I watched it again to check my notes. I shared it with at least 8 people and they all had the same response Bravo.
I learned so much in this! I recently started following Chris Voss, and now I'm going to go check out your channel, Mr. Shetty! I'm very impressed so far.
I do agree to most what Chris is saying, but I do have doubts about what he is suggesting in 1:16:00 of the video. This time ‘how I’m supposed to…’ may be too tough for family relations, as it contains threat. Maybe as a last resort… Anyhow I’d suggest not to grab&use it without further and deep contemplation.
I am currently working for a company that doesn't pay me my worth. I've been considering leaving, and this was the confirmation I needed that it's time to move on.
OK sounds fair enough, but whatever you do do not leave your job without having found another job better than the existing one. Because there must be something in your personality that encourages your boss to underestimate you. Think about that this is not blaming. This is Self estimation Perhaps you have to elevate your mindset to a more positive one because even if you find a better job at some point, you will find that they are underappreciated you as well and that means a pattern of your own. What I’m trying to say. Make it clear to your boss in a nice way what you feel, but simultaneously and silently start looking for a job that is more rewarding in every way, and that will take a long time..
Saying that he “liberates” himself from the idea of logic/rationality when negotiating with people was a beautiful way to push back on Jay’s self-centric idea that he’s seeing things accurately and the other person is wrong. In reality, perfectly rational, sane-minded people can very frequently come at things from different angles and have had different experiences in life, so thinking that you’re always right doesn’t help you in a negotiation or argument.
When it comes to the FBI, they are known for their investigative work, solving crimes, and protecting the nation. It's fascinating to learn about their different departments and the kind of cases they handle.
Jay and team :) : you should interview Esther Hicks (and 'Abraham')! Just subscribed to your channels today, love your style. And also loved your interview on Lewis Howes. Really resonated with me.💖
Hey jay, i am waching your videos, its very informative and i am seeing your video to learn English, i am sure most of the indian is seeing your video for same purpose, could u please add subtitles in your videos if it possible. It will very helpful to us.
If you are Chris Voss you can take a hard stance on free consulting but as a startup CEO I get pitched by consulting firms 3 times per week and small consulting firms ALL look the same on paper because no one wants to give away a framework. Keep in mind, small companies don’t have the resources to steal your framework and successfully execute it (if the CEO is even mildly intelligent this is true). So, before you take the advice given here be sure you are a brand as strong as Chris Voss before playing the hard vanilla stance on putting a framework in place with some sense of how the deliverable can be executed.
May I allow myself to say this - Jay, you are an incredible motivator… As the camera is capturing your image - you would be absolutely spectacular without the beard. Why because your blue eyes will l make a much greater impact on the viewers; the beard usually shows your hiding - you a beautiful soul a very handsome man make this change for your viewers…❤❤
Love it! Thank you for such a great interview as always! I would like to hear more about relationships and friendships from Chris Voss. And I love how you both, Jay, communicate. Such a great collaboration I think😁🤍💚 (sorry for my English)
Superb conversation and great rapport. But Jay, you almost gave me a stroke with 10 minutes left of the podcast by repeating "value" so intermittently in a span of a minute or two. Keep up the good work!
The best negotiator will be AI, just feed it all the previous negotiations, outcomes and lessons learned. It knows how to speak any language and how to reference culture and country identities.. 👌
The answer about gender pay gap it’s so bad 😅 It’s known that women tend to ask for less and be less confrontational when negotiating, so if a women asks for 50k and you were willing to go up to 55k why would you do it if she is happy with what she asked for? After that you cannot compare yourself to other people in the company as there are too many factors that got you to where you are.
Respectfully, felt like Jay spent more time adjusting his shirt & looking at his notes then actively listening, seems a shame during a very active conversation with a professional negotiator.
About Oprah Winfrey luring people into an interview and telling him “I will always love you” she has destroyed more lives than anyone can tell… So I disagree that you have to give up her Winfrey as an example or maybe you should because her intentions are not that wonderful…
in 23:29 the interview he talks about an Instagram account, which is giving very positive vibes to people with only 36 posts. What is the name of the account? He said “hal tia” girl - but I couldn’t find any account like that.
Oprah being a reference is hilarious 🤣 All the interviews are staged and there is no authenticity in it like in most American media.. and Oprah is a narcissist that stepped on people in horrible ways to get here she is.
It’s not about God right here, darling - it’s about people helping other people overcome their anger in their rationality! God will not help you if you’re facing a deranged kidnapper… If you only remember that God works THROUGH you - not FOR you then you will know that you have to learn skills like this one so stop pushing Jesus Christ every time where it doesn’t belong
The interview was uninspiring and dull. Unfortunately, Voss did not come across as smart or empathetic; rather, he seemed somewhat arrogant and full of self-importance, which was quite a pitiful sight. The interviewer failed to ask interesting or thought-provoking questions, and I came away from the interview having learned literally nothing.
Chris Voss is the no-bs voice we all need. Please bring him more often!

This has to be the best interview anyone has done with Chris.
Tactical empathy coupled with abundance and gratitude is damn powerful in any aspect of life! This is a banger episode!
Chris Voss gives a masterclass in negotiating skills with all his podcasts. Thank you so much for your intelligent insights into people skills. 🎉❤😊

Really useful. Thank you very much
I've read the book and watched a bunch of videos with Chris. Even if this conversation repeats a lot of it, it was very insightful. Thank you all.
Two of my favorite people to follow. Thank you Jay and Chris for getting together, such a great blend!
I once had to negotiate a salary in a tough market. It took months, but in the end, standing firm on my value paid off.
Great to hear
Such a useful and beautiful interview! Empathy is the way forward!
Wow this was amazing!!! I watched it late at night liked it so much I watched the next day to make notes. Then I watched it again to check my notes. I shared it with at least 8 people and they all had the same response Bravo.
This is full gems. These tips work great with teaching customer service skills
I was thinking the same thing as I was listening!
Thank you so much for all this validation at once! (after a breakup from a narcissist).
Thanks!

How does someone know if they are an analyst or an accommodator? Is there a quiz or assessment?
Maybe try formula - ‘I feel …, when you/we… (do), because…’.
Voss is great, but I got so distracted by the shoe in the bottom left corner!
Listen to Jay's podcast is like in a therapy session.
May I allow myself to say this - Jay, you are an incredible motivator… As the camera is capturing your image - you would be absolutely spectacular without the beard.

Why don't you call Brian Tracey to your podcast😊. It would be great 😍
He reminds me of a nice brother of Mike from Breaking Bad

He's really losing me every time he talks about Oprah, everything we know about her now, he needs to pick another example.
