      @donnawest4713 Same. There are some presumably non-English speaking talented people with music only and often fast moving videos. I would rather hear a foreign language and put on subtitles. Or even no subtitles.
      This was an excellent video.

    THANK YOU! What a beautiful quilt and great instructions. I gravitate towards cool colors, however your colors are lovely and I wouldn't have thought of it myself. And you just freed me from stitching in the ditch and "awkward for me" spray basting. I like the quilting through the middle of the squares.

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  29 днів тому +1

      Hahah. I have always found the spray basting awkward too! But maybe I just need more practice at it....to conquer it :) Yes! Free yourself from any of the rules and do quilting your way! Thanks Carol! And have fun sewing :)

    Thank you so much for posting this!! I’ve had a million squares cut out for a quilt that I’ve had cut out for at least nine months but hadn’t started sewing it yet bc something just didn’t sit quite right, and then I saw yours and it hit me that my squares were too big. Also I like the 9 patch but then random the 9 patch. Just so sweet. Love it!! 👏👏👏

    I love this so much. I'm just starting to learn to sew, and I've found I'm really picky on quilt designs. Most look to busy to my eye, but this one is so looks so satisfying. There's enough going on that it's interesting, but not so much that it's chaotic.
    Looks like a fun one to make, but I definitely think I'll be doing cheaty binding. Hand sewing feels like the last thing i want to try to do.

    • @wendycadby6362
      @wendycadby6362 10 днів тому

      Hand sewing the binding is my favourite part. You look at your finished quilt. It doesn't take that long and .....ah ...... job well done.

      Oh thank you! I totally agree...I don't like really busy quilts. But this is busy, yet somewhat organized?? 😅😂if that makes sense. haha. It's the right amount of "chaotic" for me. And yes, you can totally do machine binding on both sides if you'd like! Thanks for watching Elysia! - Dana

    🎉congrats on your quilting journey! Getcha some of those HST there addicting lol your doing awesome! I’m recovering from emergency neck fusion long story short my left side kind of quit working on me, but it’s coming back, but it’s because I could stand not being able to sew. I’m a beginner as well. The need to sew has encouraged me to get up out of this hospital bed and just so and unconsciously I’m starting to use my left hand. It’s a good thing. I’m right handed, but my left hand still a little sleepy anyway I enjoy watching you and wish you the best in your quilting journey, watching from Yakima, Washington!

    Really pretty quilt! I like 9-patches alot, and this is the 2nd video of yours that I've watched, and I enjoy your straight-forward presentation. I'll have to look up more of your videos. I'd love to see how the quilt looks after it is washed, since you did not pre-wash. I was taught to always pre-wash, (kinda scared not to at this point) and I would love to see the end result (washed/dried) of a quilt that is made without pre-washing, to see if I think I would like to try that. Since you brought it up in the video, it would be great to see how much of a crinkly effect you get.

Still, he didn't care because he's nice like that, but for his next birthday I'm going to follow this tutorial and make sure everything's always neat and even!

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  29 днів тому +1

      I was worried about that, but the shrinkage rate was the same as the other quilting cottons in the quilt top. But if you're unsure, you could always cut a sample of both, wash and dry them, and see how they shrink comparatively. Hope that helps! - Dana

    • @MADEEveryday

      Oh that's a fun idea! You should watch my Ultimate Quilt Video, which goes over all the quilting basics:
      ua-cam.com/video/Eq3koiH4B8M/v-deo.html
      It sounds like you're thinking about a "T-shirt quilt"? I would just cut the shirts into squares and sew them together. Even though T-shirts are made with knit fabrics, some have more stretch than others. So just work carefully when sewing, that you're not stretching the fabric. I have a video about sewing with knits also here:

    • @rebekahchambers5683

    I'm new-ish to sewing. No reverse stiches for the squares??

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  27 днів тому +1

      Correct. You can do that if you'd like....typically in quilting you do not forward and backstitch to "lock" the stitch, like you do with other sewing (at least for most of the quilt). This is probably because you are sewing SO. MANY. PIECES...and then those pieces get sew into another piece, which ends up locking that stitch/seam. AND you often subcut larger pieces which end up giving you exposed stitching anyway....which is why it's important to handle the pieces carefully as you're piecing together, so seams don't come apart. I hope that helps! Good question!

    In your sample 9 patch, did you reverse the order of squares, e.g. some dark centre and some light centre? Using 2 fat quarters per colour set would give 5 dark and 5 light but if you used WOF, would it give more choice of pattern with that particular selection of colours?

      Ignore this, worked it out.

    On the pieced backing, shouldn’t you use a slightly smaller stitch length?

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  15 днів тому

      Sure you can do that. I think I used a standard 2.5 to 3 stitch length

    I'm curious why you don't backstitch?
    Do all quilters not backstitch?

    • @sarahkelly4026
      @sarahkelly4026 7 днів тому

      Quilters don’t backstitch because 1) all seam ends are secured in the next seam 2) it messes up the seam allowance where precision is more important in piecing.

    I don’t pin my strips. And I’ve made a lot of 9patch quilts. It my favorite block that’s why I watched your video.

    Why do we need to sew a scant 1/4” seam allowance?

    Omgosh, your hair is so long. I don't know what UA-cam has done, but I haven't had any notifications for your videos.

    honestly you need to make a video about your hair, how to have the genetics, what to eat, what vitamins, how to cut it, how to care for it, I don't know just, everything about it. my upbringing never taught me the simplest things like brushing, you know, just the basics you would teach a child...

    Scant is a little less, not a little over.

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  9 днів тому +1

      Yes thank you! I worded it oddly....I meant "over" in the sense of the presser foot being over to the left of where it would normally be for a 1/4". Poor word choice! Yes, Scant is less.

    scant means less not more.

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  28 днів тому +2

      Correct, just a little “over”…meaning a little to the side (less) of where the standard 1/4 inch seam would be. Sorry that was a weird way to phrase it😂

    How well do you like your 'Brilliant' sewing machine? (Be honest!)

    • @MADEEveryday
      @MADEEveryday  18 днів тому

      Haha. It's a great machine! I really love it. It's a good solid machine and does so much more than I actually need it for....so I could prob use a lower end machine. The Brilliant is at the top of the Genuine series, with lots of stitch options and extras. And I also have the Joy machine, which is an entry level machine in the Genuine series and that one works for my basic needs too. But....with the Brilliant of course I like the larger throat space (the distance between the needle and the right side of the machine)...this is ideal for quilting, so you have more space to maneuver. So I guess I'm really happy where I'm at with my machine :) You can find comparable great machines from other brands too of course. I've just been sewing on Baby Lock for about 12 years now. Hope that helps!

    Great quilt, but your stop and start sewing is driving me nuts. Try pressing that foot peddle at an even feel. Do you drive the same way? Even pressure dear!!!

      Have you tried sewing while navigating camera gear? 😅 I bet if you drove with a camera in front of your face you would struggle with perfectly even speed too 😂

    I don't mean to criticize but a scant quarter inch means Smaller than a quarter inch not more than a quarter inch. Look up scant in the dictionary.
