Love the recent Playtest Goliath changes. Having different abilities depending on the Giant race you are closest with. Love the customization of it. Great video as all ways!
Goliaths are fun! I’ve played one in the rime of frostmaiden campaign. I’ve built him to reduce damage with stone’s endurance, the heavy armor master feat and the hill rune from the rune knight fighter. The cold resistance also came in handy with that campaign.
I don't know where you get your lore from, but from the Races of Stone book (3e), Goliaths don't like Giants. The relation Goliaths has with giants in that book is when giants take Goliaths as slave workers, where every goliath tribe will go and save any goliath slave. The mind of a goliath is to always better oneself every single day, so the idea of working for someone else as a slave is very much against their culture and psychology. Goliath likes dwarfs, cause if they can trade with them then the tools are gonna last for many many generations, as dwarfcraft is very good.
The lore I had checked out for the goliaths didn’t have to much to say about the giants. Though giants are a very harsh people and pretty much are horrible to everyone beneath there station. The relationship with giants wasn’t something I really wanted to get into cus I’d have to cover the entire giant hierarchy just for a bases. Goliaths from the lore I had come across in 5e consider them selves apart of the giant linage. That’s really all I was willing to get into. Making a lore video is a considerable undertaking. There’s so much lore and on top of that a lot of it is interlocking with others, so I am considering doing it but it’s a lot of research, and the. Backlogging through older editions as the lore changes.
@@TheSinisterheroes wouldnt really say that the lore "changes" from edition to edition. more that lore is ripped away and not replaced xD 5e has been very bad at writing lore to replace what they have stripped from earlier edition. 3e had 1/3 of an entire book just for goliath culture, language, their own religion, society structure, etc. Volo's guide gave them 1 page....
Wait….so are goliaths like half giants now? They have different sub races for all the normal true giant kinds so does that like make em half giants? And if they sort can you just call em one and it would still work? (Time sensitive question need to know in 2 days or less)
They believe there close in kin to giants but they are not giants. They just believe it to be true and they tend to be more easily accepted by giants because of there larger stature
I really like my goliath champion fighter, simple in concept and character. He is described as looking more like a half ogre than goliath and that makes him look scarier than he is, he is unable to say i when speaking so he acts dumber than he really is to appear more friendly. I've build the guy to be a grappler with tavern brawler and unarmed fighting style. I litterally wrote under attacks, fist and fists in seperate spaces, big shovel for hands pack a punch. 😅
That’s really clever. By making the character ogre like it can fit as a physical deformity. The limiting of the language helps to make them look unintelligent, but it is a common thing to play dumb when your not. Being a grappler also makes alot of sense as a fighter and a Goliath who leans into that strength.
@@TheSinisterheroes Thanks! I like to imagine him being adept with every item around him, his wrapon of choice is a stump he picked up because it was a good stump to sit on, and his shield doubles as a hat and food bowl. Even his clothing has been turned into something useful, his vest us a sling from which i've shot our gnome wizard from. He us just a blast in general. 😂
Just the monocles has a really high strength save to break out of it, and you just kind put it on. It’s like old tiny hand cuffs. Shut down some casters pretty hard.
@@Alphatron-7 I am glad you watched, and happy you enjoyed it! I only ask because I am getting to a point where I am considering doing some lore videos so if that’s something more people are into I’d love to invest time and effort to do so.

Thank you! I always appreciate it!!!!
Which Goliath did you like best?

They are beasts in any campaign. They are a very strong species. That stones endurence is crazy strong
Making Goliath fighter right now. Just going heavy defense, starting 19 ac with shield level 1 with chainmale.
Ok the Goliath makes for a great front liner. And there tough love attitude really fits that commanding battle field presence.

Yes that is pretty on point. I do think they left it open ended so they can revamp it as they see fit. Kinda like how there dealing with the new Drow.

more good stuff; i've got a lot to go on now. 👍

There’s a lot of really strong mundane items you might wanna look into like the monocles.

only thing i think needs added is the skin marks they have. they arent tattoos they are a part of their skin.
If I start doing lore videos that’s something I would definitely cover. I think it’s so dope that this protrusions are also hard and stone like.
70% useful, should’ve known to just turn it off at lore explanation
Oh ok, thanks for the perspective. Would you prefer if I just separated into two videos one for mechanical overview, and one for lore?
@@TheSinisterheroes I was looking for a mechanical overview but don’t get me wrong it’s still a good well layed out video
