    Well I am Puerto Rican and a musician. Songo is widely used to play small venue salsa and latin jazz. He does a nice job implementing a simpler cleaner version of the rhythm, and also makes it easier for non Latinos to understand the rhythm so congrats to him. Great Job.

    Yes sir just like LuisShanom stated you did a very good job. I've been wanting to lear to play this type of style for the longest time! Seen every video on youtube tutorial there is for songo and none of them come no where near to how you have broken it down. Thank you very much, God bless!

    That's a mighty fine groove!
    I wish you called out how you were counting each beat.
    To me it sounded lile this:
    1 - trip - let
    2 - & - ah
    3 - e - & - ah
    4 - e - & - ah

    • @Jungleritter
      @Jungleritter  5 років тому

      It's kinda hard to explain it in counting. There's no triplets in this groove, it's all 16th note based. It's probably best to look for a few videos that explain the songo beat in slow motion. If you can't find anything let me know, I can write it down for you

    Constructive criticisms. I bashed you enough.
    1. You need to attack the snare the tripled and doubles are throwing you off.
    2. The cymbal is 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 nothing else is needed.
    3. Simple is best the cleaner the better. If not you throw the count off and it won' t long before you are looking for new gig.
    4. The bell of the ride cymbal is best to use while striking it with the side ice stick.
    5. The bass has to be aggressive.

    I don't think you understood the whole purpose of the lesson, it does exactly the opposite of teaching the "traditional" songo, it's all about Drum&Bass music here. The songo style is a fusion style, not that traditional at all. The same way the early songo drummers had the freedom to come up with something new I claim for myself to contribute to the style of Drum&Bass. This is not about being traditional, it's about trying to come up with something new. Btw, I'm not french :-)

    Very good video .. but lack a blow to complete the key Tumbao on bass .... in 3 and 4 if full but 2 will miss a beat in the third sixteenth note, in a nutshell. the same pattern of a quarter, is the same in the second half .... thing becomes a pattern of always Ostinato 4 and 3, in that ordem

  • @01eliseorosario
    @01eliseorosario 12 років тому

    Oh I understood and that the frustrating part. In drumming skipping the traditional beats set you up for failure in the long run. I play fusion jazz of all styles but I embraced the basics first before moving on. remember you are teaching songo to new people and dismissing the traditional beats ,concepts of songo. believe me I love fusion, however never ignore the basics it's playing clean that gets you gigs

    Ideas excellent. Got a lot out of this - thank you. (Of course your execution often not great - you kept losing the groove due to insufficient rehearsal time I'm guessing. Dynamics of individual hits were often inconsistent between iterations of the pattern.)

    • @Jungleritter
      @Jungleritter  8 років тому +1

      This idea is by no means an attempt to play an authentic songo, it's an adaptation for Drum & Bass music. This is as non-traditional as it can get. Changuito would be the best source to learn traditional songo as he basically invented the style

  • @01eliseorosario
    @01eliseorosario 12 років тому

    Stop teaching this as songo it is not songo you are French and not Latino so you have nooo idea what are talking. This is way too simple for songo. Hooorrriiiible

  • @01eliseorosario
    @01eliseorosario 12 років тому

    You are way too choppy to teach this style. You need to some newyoricans that is a new York Puerto rican. We came out with this style back in the mid 70's . By the I have been drumming since the mid 70's. Just when it was first coming out.. please play this beat with some Latino's b4 trying to teach it. You are doing a disservice.
