for those wondering i can also confirm this tactic is effective with lower league teams ive tried it in my save managing bangor 1876 in the cymru north despite prediction of finishing 9th i managed to win the league gaining promotion and winning the Nathaniel mg cup knocking out the mighty TNS along the way

I have used these tactics with my amateur team before and put all the technical tiki-taka type players in the midfield (all 4 players). When the false 9 (brain of the team) made smart drops between defense and midfield lines, we absolutely destroyed everyone we played against through the middle. We were always 5v3, 5v4 at the center. It took a long time for opponents to realize what we are doing and it was too late when they finally crowded the mid. If you have high passing quality-technical midfielders and a smart false 9, these tactics are like a cheat code in amateur level. You will create a lot of chances through the middle: open shots within 25 yards, 1v1 with goalie using through balls, leaving your wingers 1v1 with the full backs when you make a late switch etc.

The problem I have with this tactic at Barcelona is that it does not elevate certain player profiles. DeJong for example is arguably the most talented player in the team and is greatly underused as a DM on Defend. Its literally his worst possible role!

Really like this tactic. Similar to my 343 on my United rebuild. Went for a Busby style tactic in a 343 but I'm using wing play with a tiny bit more directness.

Awesome stuff. Really love the 316 shape in attack. Central overload and max width giving opponents a lot to worry about through numerical superiority. I know it’s a bit counterintuitive to trying something “different” tactic-wise but how do you suggest I can engineer a 316 shape in attack from a base 433 or 4231?
So you could do 433 with the left bk as a CWB attack and the right back IFB. Then two 8s like B2B or mezza or cm attack or even ap attack

You can't contain with only 3 men in defense in football, you will get destroyed in a real game. You need to make one of the midfielders to drop as a defender when you lose possession and make number 10 fall back as midfielder. That's how they used to play. You also need to play through the center using center overload with mids and the false 9 and switch later to wings or put through balls to half spaces left behind by the opponent center back following false 9. If you play with Romario as poacher, then you need to play with a classic no 10 rather than a shadow striker, otherwise you will lose numerical superiority in the mid which is the entire point of this kind of football. Also, the wingers can be inside forwards (if they aren't fast dribblers so they can't go all the way to the goal line) to even get extra numbers in the middle, when the defenders progress on the wing or when the center overload already worked.
Cruyff used the 343 against a classic 442 so he always have numerical superiority on defense. 3 defenders vs 2 strikers, and on attack Guardiola always

This is iconic tactically from Cruyff!! But its only tactics built on a 3 man base. Its an inversion of 3-5-2. Position?? Am I a second striker or covering into wing back?? Its fluid tactically
Is the diamond in the middle a defensive shape or an attacking shape during build up?
Well it's more for the attacking structure with Cruyff obsessed with angles
@@Trequinho if that is the case, why not 433 with a flat 3 midfield utilising a AP(A) /CM(A) with two no rotating roles in the midfield. Then in defence, we have two IFBs and a libero pushing into the midfield to create the diamond in the middle.

Or 4231 with IFBs and libero
You don't get the movements then also libero in FM won't do what Koeman did

They kept the ball so they didn't have to defend maybe 😂
Because these teams played with 4 at the back not 3. Koeman became a central midfielder when they had the ball, leaving 3 defenders and Guardiola behind.
Koeman and Guardiola also were tactically great. Werent great at man to man, but perfectly played passing spaces.
@@Dotsetc Those teams played 4-3-3 against one-striker systems or in big games. But use the 3-4-3 diamond against the 4-4-2 in La Liga. It was really a counter against the classic 4-4-2.
@@sld1776 No. Cruyff himself has stated this many times in regards of how the Netherlands and Barca played.
He has always and I mean, always played a 4-3-3. He even had to explain this to Dutch pundits at the time who often viewed his team as a 3-4-3 as well.
The reason why they sort of 'shifted' defensively vs a 4 man midfield, is because Cruyff in his own words:' I am way more defensive than people think I am,' stated that he mostly found it important to not be overloaded in midfield.
That's why the libero, number 10 and 'false 9' existed in his tactics. Basically at all points in time, you can have at least 4 players in every part of the field depending on how the ball progresses and you can stay in a '4-3-3' in this way no matter the formation another team puts out.
Basically its like this. 4-3-3 starting out the back, once the midfield is reached it turns into a 3-4-3 but quickly turns into a 3-3-4 when in offense with both the striker as number 10 being interchangable.
Ultimately it's a 4-3-3. Hell why do you think the Dutch became known for 4-3-3.
