Definitely worth trying. You'll just want to make sure that your defensive midfielders don't have roles that hold position (so they can drift over and support the wide areas when necessary)
Incredible video I must say! The way you thoroughly presents the data in a way that is easy to understand is a great quality. This video really helped me choosing a fitting tactic for my Nottingam-save. I will be using the 3-4-3 with short passing, to control the games vs lesser opponents seeing that this formation conceded very few xGa, but with a decent amount of xG. I'm expected to fight for survival therefore I will be playing the same formation against more superior opponents and away-games, but with a more direct style and moving the wingers in to the middle as you demonstrated. Hopefully Chris Wood can get me some headers on corners this way as well, seeing that more direct style will produce more goals on corners/headers. PS. Your data-driven/attributeless skin is really something. Sports Interactive should hire you.
That's great to hear that you've found it useful. I think it's really interesting to take a closer look at those areas that people take for granted. Like "Passing Directness" is such a self-explanatory term, that it's easy to miss some of those knock-on effects.
Whilst it's always been the plan (originally to coincide with the release of FM25), I've always wanted to make sure that I could provide value in doing so. All whilst not detracting from everything else!
Great video as always! It's refreshing to see something in FM that works like it says on the side of the tin. Also, I like the new logo. I assume it coincides with the inauguration of your Patreon?
There is something reassuring when things work as they should!! It's also interesting to see to what degree the tactic settings impact on-pitch performance. Yeah, been sitting on the logo/rebrand for a while. I wasn't happy with the previous one - mainly because I didn't test it enough for readability at small scale. Had this new one waiting for FM25, but might as well push on with it anyway!
@@mustermannfm Oh. Oh yeah. May as well have a new logo for when Godot arrives. And here, I mean the Beckett version. I assume the game engine is sticking to schedule...
@@martinwoolf3861 oh, oh my. A FM25/Waiting for Godot parody would be delightful. If not just for the amount of people who just wouldn't understand what is going on.
@mustermannfm It really would! But yeah, probably not the optimal way to grow your channel viewership. Which is too bad, because now I really want to see Krapp's Last Season too.
@@martinwoolf3861 there are many videos on the channel already that don't help grow viewership (no-one asked for a semi-animated Ajax mockumentary). There's a great location to film it near my house, too. The only issue is equipment, crew and acting ability. Those things are surmountable, right?
I have a hard time knowing which stats to look for in a central midfielder for a possession heavy tactic. Much easier to find a Defensive midfielder. What do you look for in a central midfielder?
Well ultimately it comes down to what you are wanting them to do. Not all possession heavy systems are the same. If you want them sitting behind the front line supporting the attack, then perhaps you want to look at progressive passes and open-play key passes, along with possession lost. If you want them surging forward with the ball to break the lines and then play attackers through once the next defender comes up to engage, then dribbles and open-play key passes. If you want them joining that front line and being an active part of the attack, then shots and open-play key passes If you want them attacking the box late to get on the end of crosses and cut backs, then shots, xG overperformance, high intensity sprints and possibly headers depending on cross delivery. Then whatever you expect from them out of possession. Pressures Attempted for those I expect to be harassing the opposition. Possession Won for those I expect to be mopping up loose balls. Usually they are one or the other.
good video and one i generally accept however you have people like endo who have traits like prefers short passes , and has lower vision , ie a long ball played over the defense by say szoboszlai and hits mo salah who has tries to beat offside trap and endo to salah in each systems would still be different so while yes directness increases forward passes but so does vision
Ah, you see that's the mistake you made. This video is called "How does PASSING DIRECTNESS work" and compares settings across consistent players to understand the difference between them. It sounds like you're looking for a video called "Are Endo and Szoboszlai different players" 🤣
@@mustermannfm lol but u can change the passing directness of players in their instructions which overides the setting in team instructions and a player who cant pass long cant pass long even if directness is long so when your doing your analysis of passing % so allo those tests you did if you did it with a team max 14 passing stats would be diff with a team max passing 16
“6% is 20% more than 5%”. Couldn’t it also be rounding? 5% may be 5.49% and 6% may be 5.50% but the game rounds the values to something more digestible. Therefore maybe there is no material difference?
That is very true, but could also very easily be 4.50 and 6.49. Whilst it is also possible that every single formation had a rounding that made the difference look larger than it really was, it would also be unlikely.

*me turning off the video at 0:16 * Loved the video!
You don't know how tempted I was to genuinely stop the video there!!
The notion that direct balls will help counterpressing led to Ten Hag being sacked, you should be careful Mr. Mustermann 😂
FM's pressing is just as inconsistent and uncoordinated as Ten Hag's!!
@@mustermannfmAnd I like exploiting that weakness so much 😂
Judging by this and prior videos, it sounds like I need to try a wide, 3-4-3 with shorter passing!
Really enjoy these vids!

My favourite tactic is a mid block with direct passing. Lots of willing runners to counter.
A nice way to have your forward players further up the pitch should you win the ball early!!

The next is pass into space.
Sorry to disappoint, the next will be pressing intensity; but we may get to pass into space eventually
I will from now on call direct pass + counter press as Zerg Rush Tactic
If there's one thing I'm good at, it's making up-to-date references!
Make a video on how to make a direct attacking football please 🙏🏼
The end of the video provides examples of two different ways to approach passing directness. One short system, one direct system.
