  • Easy 3D Printer Build (Vanilla) | Space Engineers
    Today we're building a 3D printer. An easy build that will let you automatically print your rovers, miners or fighters from blueprints in seconds!
    We'll learn about, and use, projectors, pistons, hinges, welders, rotors and we'll also program a control seat so we can activate the different stages of the printer.
    I demo the Build-Vision mod during this tutorial but is NOT essential.
    Also there is a short tutorial on using some useful Admin Tools (also not essential).
    Finally included at the end of the video are some ideas for expanding the system to allow for larger blueprints and some suggestions for fun projects/challenges for you to work on yourself!

    Anyone else annoyed with how simple this design is? There is no clang risk. Nothing that could ruin hours of hard gaming.

  • @src6339

    Cool, though I usually integrate a merge block into my design blueprints and put one on the printer so that I can detach it after the print.
    It's not really suitable for my 4000-block large grid frigate, though 🤔

    Good video, but since you have creative tools on, you don't need to add that many components in the cargo the welders only need the first component of each block in it to instantly weld. In complete survival mode, you would also need to slow down the pistons a lot more for this to work as fast, the welders do not insta-weld like with creative tools on. my first instinct would be at about 0.1m/s or even slower.

    In regards to the hinge, I’m not sure many have noticed, the marker your using to set which way you place it also happens to be =45 degrees mark. There is a center line on the hinge part as well.

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  3 роки тому

      You know I'd estimated it was 45, well -45, but because you don't sort of watch it turning then stop it, it didn't seem that much use. Honestly I think it's a bad design. They could have had text on the side of the hinge like they do with rotors. Indicating positive and negative angles? But! As long as you remember which way is which, it's not so bad. I like the features of the hinge. It's extremely useful, but just not such a good design. What do you think about the hinge design Torrent? Or the projector design too?
      Ah and thanks for commenting. I always appreciate the feedback and chat.

    This is very useful for the mid game on survival servers. You can make blueprints offline in creative mode to experiment, then use a printer like this to bring them into a survival server.

    And here I made two big walls of welders that were initially closed like a trash compactor, and then slowly start to open revealing the ship, but hell that took a lot of work, should have done this instead

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  3 роки тому +1

      Walls, floors, ceilings all covered in welders. Or 1 on a stick! Haha. Yeah it's a simple, quick system but not as impressive as 20 welders all sparking away then revealing a ship after they finish opening. I'm pleased you like it Pepito. Thanks for commenting!

    Could you just use landing gear or a magnetic plate at the top instead of the block? Then just push a button to detach the print

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  2 роки тому

      Possibly. I have a suspicion a landing gear won't grab the blueprint soon enough. If at all. Let me known if you try it out.

      @@TallmanBradGameplay that’s only if you have it printed on a piston and the welders is on the floor, then the piston pulls the projection out of the floor welding it

  • @ZachTheInsaneOne
    @ZachTheInsaneOne 2 роки тому +2

    I'd like to know how they made the pistons extend and retract automatically during the welding process, as it seems that system would allow for larger ships or rovers to be built, that the range of a single welder wouldn't cover. I believe that's why they spin the ship around, to cover all sides of it while having the welders remain in a single line.

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  2 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure how they made the printer in the background cinematic. It looks impressive but it could be just setup to look good for the video? The version I've made her is extremely simple but could be expanded on with additional pistons in parallel to the existing one, either to the sides or below. This would allow bigger ship printing, with a little projector adjustment.

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  2 роки тому +1

      Oh you can spin the projection in my example no problem. The projector is attached to a rotor. It just wasn't necessary with the size it was making in the demo.

    • @ZachTheInsaneOne
      @ZachTheInsaneOne 2 роки тому +1

      @@TallmanBradGameplay Yeah I don't really care much about the spinning part, I'd just like the welders to automatically detect when a block is built and continue backing up so that it doesn't collide with the ship. I'm thinking they did it with sensors but I'll have to figure those out. I'll scan your channel a bit for a tutorial on sensors, hope you've got one!

    • @FriedRicePlease
      @FriedRicePlease 2 роки тому

      @@ZachTheInsaneOne Actually the block isnt detecting blocks being built and backing up so what you are assuming is happening is wrong. He just made it extend slowly and because of the size of the car is small it builds fast. If you rewatch it you can hear him when he sets up the piston is just set to extend and nothing special.

    • @Gebunator
      @Gebunator 2 роки тому +1

      You can set up sensors to detect blocks and sorta have automatically retracting welder pistons. However, there is no option for sensors to know if the detected block is fully buil or not, so you'll have to have low enough piston speed that the welder can do its job

      If it's projecting the image, the piston is extending and it's networked to your containers will all the materials, then it should be working. I don't think servers will have any impact on this build unless they don't allow the use of projectors?

    Thanks, TMB, for the clear, easy-to-understand video. My first question *was* - what about flying vehicles. If you grind off the attachment, they'll fall and crash. Then I realized one could use atmo thrusters and a battery or two; or use hydrogen thrusters, an O2/H2 generator, then manually add some ice before one grinds off the attachment. Either way should work. Again, thanks for the wonderful videos, and for your time. We appreciate it.

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  3 роки тому

      You're welcome Gary! Yeah I'd load up flyers before detaching. Could be a fun project to have a connector on a piston that slides into place after welding is complete. The flyer then pulling H2 or ice then? Loads of options! I appreciate the feedback as always Gary!

    It's not even 3d printer, it is just a piston with welder, maximum i can call it manual one axis welding manipulator. 3d printer should be fully automatic, and all you need is to load a blueprint and push One button. Then it should build ANY project any size (within working table). For 20 minutes video i was expecting a nice Real 3d printer, but this ... just a waste of time.

    • @TallmanBradGameplay
      @TallmanBradGameplay  2 роки тому +3

      Add a few timers and it'll run with 1 button press. Build a bigger "table" and add more welders and it'll weld bigger blueprints.
