- This is a serious piece of history here. Mr Bungle playing at their high school talent show. Mike Patton is a young punk here, but already knows how to put on a good show!

I feel bad for the poor kid that had to follow that act.
yo didn't know you were a Bungle fan.
YOOO krinkels knows about Mr Bungle!
This might be the greatest high school talent show video in the history of ever.
It's too bad that everyone they went to high school with is dead...
nice pun there fella
Jayson TheDrummerandGamer
thats not what a pun is though
It is a double entendre!
And even worse...none of them knew they were robots....
Seager Huttz And they all ended up in 'The Bends.'
Mike Patton: Trolling since the 80's.
Why would you say something like that? Furthermore, why would you use a fuckin colon in that sentence?
@@flip65515 why you so fuckin mad?
@@flip65515 If you haven't caught on to Patton's trolling nature by now, you might not be the most socially-aware crayon in the box. Watch a couple of interviews with him, you should be able to pick up on it.
Mike Patton is a fucking leader. When I grow up I want to be a Mike Patton.
WHAT HIGH SCHOOL TALENT SHOW HAS EVER LET SOMEONE PERFORM FOR 19 MINUTES!?!
He was boning the principal Mr. Belding
@@eduardoscissorshands9510 You mean Br. Melding?
They actually supported the arts in California a long time ago . Cause this shit didn't happen in Texas
A high school with insufficient talent.
Well duh..... Its Mike Patton. Why wouldn't they.
Call me crazy but I think these "Mr. Bungle" fellows are going to make it big.
Franklin MacGilacuddy yep
They should reunite, like faith no more did in 2009
Mr. Bungle? Never heard of them. Sound kinda like Bister Mungle though
@@DeutscheDemokratischeRepublik They're doing a reunion tour for their first album.
@@Dyadactic i know, i got the news as well, just wish the tours weren't on a whole different continent
I would love to see a Mike Patton reacts video to this
My mind was blown when I saw they were actually calling themselves Bister Mungle.
Here is a track list with the artist(s)
0:22 Heart & Soul ( Hoagy Carmichael )
1:12 The Washington Post ( John Philip Sousa )
1:48 Howdy Doody Opening theme
2:22 Shout at the Devil ( Mötley Crüe )
3:30 Opi Rides Again ( Camper van Beethoven )
4:18 Balalaika Gap ( Camper van Beethoven )
6:16 Vladivostock ( Camper van Beethoven)
8:14 Skinhead Stomp ( Camper van Beethoven )
9:58 King of Rock ( RUN DMC )
13:14 Macho Man ( Village People )
16:59 ( Theme from ) The Monkees
Probably the only time you'll see Mike Patton hold a guitar.
Actually, if you didn't yet, you can see Mike playing the bass guitar in FNM's Making of Angel Dust video.
@@jaakkovahanen
...trying to explain that "Godflesh" sound.
He can play guitar pretty damn good
Only time I've seen it
@@jaakkovahanen not on stage, so doesn't count
Well Mike, you performed Shout at the Devil better than Vince Neil does now.
Well Mike Patton. You did it. Had a vision since high school and you make it happen for yourself. Incredible.
Best talent show of all time.
The kid that followed this played twinkle twinkle little star on the clarinet. Truth.
jmannxiiiaaron yeah, that’s totally something that mr bungle/mike Patton would do hahahahahaha......
Incredible how in sync and polished they are at such a young age
It really is impressive!
Yeah. Mike was always a very brilliant (and VERY rebellious) kid; he basically just has eschewed convention every single step of his life.
They all were really talented.
Eureka California never recovered thankfully.
California in general never recovered, when you look at things objectively
I remember going to this very show with some friends. I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now.
Holy shit! :D
Any further info you could share? What did the other students think?
And was Patton like back then
Were they in masks
I saw them at the Trade Union Hall the next year and they had horns and played ska metal. I hated it. The guitar had a horrid metal distortion that was painful.
My brother used to take me to their shows at the muni when I was an infant and they brought me up and had me sit in the drummers lap one of my very 1st memories.
Are you serious??? Holy shit that’s fascinating.
Is your hearing okay?
this is so awesome
Fact I've never seen Mike with guitar playing......pneumatic reggae!!!! Scandalous addictive band
I feel like I remember reading they wanted to play songs from the Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny, but the school wouldn’t let them because it was too heavy so they played a set of mostly (all?) covers. I like how you can see the wide variety of genres they would use in later songs on display here
Whoever taped this is awesome
Back in 1985 this VHS recording was considered high definition!!!
This might be the most unintentionally 80's video on UA-cam.
Even in high school, Trey was a rock star.
This footage is an absolute treasure.
Quite experimental from the beginning.
Indeed, and am I glad he is a fucking weirdo.
As a huge Mr Bungle fan, I can't believe it's taken me so long to stumble across this time capsule... This is a real treasure - thank u for uploading!
...And it would just so happen to be the year they're reforming - who would've imagined?!
I came across this a few years back and it blew me away. I went to high school with them and new Trey Pretty well. What surprised me about tripping over this link when I did was that I was in that meager audience but just can't recall ever seeing a video camera.
How the fuck does somebody even have this on VHS, let alone on youtube. Holy shit.
Most talented kids ever in a high school talent show. The kids in my school could hardly play ACDC
Man, the 80S' were awesome!!!
Someone out there has an amazing story about skateboarding on stage with mister bungle at their high school talent show and I would really love to meet that person lol
Everyone they went to high school with died
The skater adds a lot to the ambience.
I was in high school not that long after this, and I would’ve 100% had a crush on all of them. Especially Mike.
I wonder why Mike didn't want to display his incredible singing talents yet.
YOU GOT TO BE A MACHO!!!
Dave Bryan in his defense, he was quite young at the time, so he probably did not know what to do with his life....he was born a day after my dad in fact!
Flannery Monaghan-Morrs and then again, he has never been one for convention.
Probably because he fuckin hated high school and his classmates. I don't think he was trying to impress anyone. That was straight sabotage
Yeah I get the fact that they played the covers as one big Fuck You to the school.
Rad... this is a big reason why I enjoy youtube at times.
You too
Can't believe I didn't see this until now!
+John Bidochka they cant do that onstage anymore right?
Best rendition of "Shout at the Devil" ever played.
Easily the best version of Macho Man... ever
yes
I would love to have seen the teachers faces :)
Yeah...I bet they would've been like... "...the hell are we watching? Did these kids take LSD beforehand?"
Come to think of it, I think Patton would make for a great childcatcher in a revival of the stage version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Mike & Dunn friends forever!!
Never hate on anything. You never know what is ahead. Mike Patton and Mr. Bungle rule.
At 10:44 you see the guy who inspired Mike Pattons stage performances. He was a close friend of Pattons.
I'm surprised Mike had so many friends in HS. Popular kid
From this to the mad genius he is now, Mike Patton is the MAAAAAAAAAN!!!
Inspirational.
Wow, this is the best thing I've found on the internet this year. Thanks so much for going through all the trouble of sharing it with the rest of the world. Look at these kids....little Trevor Dunn makes me smile. These guys were destined to go all the way, you can hear the chemistry and the clever improvisations early on. I just want to see them live one last time...c'mon Mike and Trey, work it out! P.S. They are rocking the hell out of a crowd full of teachers and parents.
I say the same, but in 2020
What high school lets kids do a twenty minute set for a talent show, lol
Smack Bramhall lol my high school did, my band did a 4 song set.
Eureka High School did!
My friends had a band and the middle school let them play a couple songs for an assembly thing.
One that doesnt have a lot talent
That's what I was thinking! ha ha
This is a piece of music history! I cannot believe we are lucky enough to have seen it here on you tube of all places. This is amazing thankyou so much to the uploader, it is much appreciated! It's awesome for us newer fans of Bungle to get a glimpse into how they became what they eventually did. Thanks heaps...
I love this... These dudes killed it,even back then.
Just goes to show you should never underestimate the efforts of a beginner!!! 🙌
this is jed watts on drums and can anyone help me on the setlist here are the only songs I know as of now
0:22 heart & soul
1:12 stars and stripes
1:48 Howdy Doody theme song
2:22 Shout at the devil
3:12 death metal version of shout at the devil
9:58 king of rock run dmc
13:14 Macho Man
16:59 Monkees Theme
Any one feel free to help me out
15:17 > The first verse of "Baby Appeal - Red Hot Chili Peppers"
Gabriel Marques cool thanks for that
All the songs they play between Motley Crue and Run DMC are from Camper Van Beethoven's first album, Telephone Free Landslide Victory.
luis clavell can you give me the titles to all the songs they play from that album
3:30 Opi Rides Again
4:18 Balaliaka Gap
6:16 Vladivostock
8:14 Skinhead Stomp
its 2020 wow 35 years past since that talent show.
the perfect "before they were famous" video
The Village People would be proud of MP!
The skaters are awesome!
20 minutes!!! I love it! Can you imagine what all the parents in the audience were thinking?? You know someone somewhere is seeing this video and having a aha moment thinking -ooohh so that's why there was that explainable surge of private school admissions mid year back in 85.
All Hail Mr. Bungle!!
That bass player has Rush fan written all over him! You can hear the influence of Geddy Lee in his tuning and playing style =))
Justin Dohrmann Hahaha such an underrated comment
@Justin Dohrmann the Geddy Lee tuning I think its called.
totally lost it at "Macho Man"... lololololol, most amazing talent show entry EVER
entertainment value high already at such young age, damn
The kid at 10:44 did a pretty good slapstick performance.
"Alright listen fuckheads , you can't be in the band cause we're gonna be really big one day and I'm a musical genius but I let you roll me in on a chair sitting on skateboards!" Quote unquote!!!!He wasn't lying!!!!
They do whatever they want and that's why they are so good!!! Love Mr. Bungle. Amazing!!
Those were some pretty rad skateboard tricks
Yep. Zombie boy was pretty rad as well.
It's terrible to listen to the tape only, except when Trey solos - dude was already the best guitarist ever since he was a kid (and admitted to have lost interest in playing guitar by TWENTY!) - but WATCHING it is PRICELESS!!
That's Mr. Bungle alright!
That day in 1986 Mike Patton performed like Vince Neil in 2021.
This is still way better than Vince's 2021 "singing" 😂
As a loooong-time Bungle fan, this was a great video to watch; but the comments are almost as entertaining!
"do you guys like my shoes?"
Un f'n believable! Really incredible musical perspective/ absurdist understanding. Thanks so much for posting this, what a gem!
Bungle novitiate here. Now permanently on my radar. Nice shoes.
they really never change
I remember in 8th grade 89nor 90 and a friends brother brought the OU818 demo to school,it changed how we interpreted music forever, thank you for this trip down memory loss...ummm lane, awesome to see!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAMAAAAAAZING..Cannot believe you have this in full xxx
Wow- what a gem of a video! Thanks for posting this. I'm about Patton's age & my highschool was cool like that as well. My band never played at school, but we did play a few school functions. But my best buddies did a set of S.O.D. songs in the auditorium before a pep rally once (billed as "F.O.D." - Fear of Donuts). This really brought back memories for me, so thanks again mate!
Most SOD songs would get you cancelled nowadays. Good band though
@@aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasdf I'm pretty sure you're being sarcastic, but if not, S.O.D. stands for Stormtroopers of Death, a Scott Ian side-project, and System of a Down is S.O.A.D.
Thank you for posting this! I've had audio of this since the late 90s from Bunglefever. This is great. Also, thanks for the Braniac video uploads. So many memories.
They had no idea what they were witness to. So glad this was recorded and shared.
Holy fuck! is that really Mr. Bungle???
Thanks for uploading this, man.
@DavidWaterhouse100 it was '85 or '86... I forget. I was roaming the hallway outside, being antisocial... remember hearing this going on, but didn't go inside. I regret not seeing this in person.
I wonder if Bungle even known this exists!
its totally bizarre to me to see a high school talent show where somebody plays a Camper Van Beethoven cover. and that song had even came out the same year
The lead singer has huge potential
four Camper Van Beethoven instrumentals in there? I had no idea they were such a big influence!
Even back then, they were tight as hell.
So, I bet that's Trevor Dunn playing bass.
I wish I had been there.
Man, this is fooking killer. Ten minutes, and thirty seconds you can hear a girl say something along the lines of these guys are awesome (=
This definitely wasn't the video that landed Mike Patton the Faith No More gig....
There better have been some mighty proud parents in the audience.
Or absolutely confused hahahaha….
Mental. Love it.
And to think, these guys would go on to create the best produced, most epic album of all time: California.
best produced? it has lots of cool sounds but the mixing leaves a bit to be desired, at some points it’s so dense and brickwalled that the vocals/instruments are basically unintelligible
@@hypnagogue we are both answering to a 9 year old comment but yeah it definitely doesn’t have the best mastering/mixing. I find that to be an issue with a lot of pattons projects unfortunately.
Some of the tomahawk songs are basically impossible to enjoy at least in high volume because the guitars/vocals are extremely piercing
@@wm1573 i have since learned california was recorded analog then digitized, so i assume the sound issues are from de-noising the analog tapes. i hope someday we get an analog remaster if the original tapes are still around, as well as a non-limited vinyl reissue
@@hypnagogue possibly yeah. Usually analog albums are known for the warmth and good sound, but maybe the digitalization process harmed it indeed
This is why aliens won’t talk to us
I wish I had that much confidence in high school... took a little more time but I did find my groove... hang on First Watch I didn't realize this was not a mr. Bungle cover band but this was actually mr. Bungle... f****** incredible. Again I wish I had this conference in high school.. who knows where it would be now
future geniuses in the making
15:17 > Baby Appeal by Red hot chili peppers
Patton will never admit that he actually liked RHCP before the fued and was obviously influenced by Anthony Keidis. When Anthony said in a magazine that Mike was copying him, I don't know why he's never just admitted to being influenced by him at that time, rather than get butthurt and start this fued. He tries his hardest to be original and unique. I don't think he'd want anyone knowing that when he was younger, he was just like every other teen back then who liked hair metal. I love him and everything, but I don't treat him like he's God like some people.
They played Baby Appeal lmfao. Little did they know what would happen in a few years
14 years isn't what I'd consider "a few"
выступление суперское) спасибо
Банглы навсегда!!!
OMFG. This is awesome.
