The kit appears to have reasonable quality name parts however it comes with 1800KV motor. I note that other designs use 2400KV motors. I understand the KV is directly related to speed although torque is also a consideration. My question if 1800KV underpowered for a typical drone. From my experience, the p3's pitch is too low for my 2550kv motors, using it on 2400kv might not be optimal. Recovery is rather weak when i used the p3, although it did fly smoothly. The p4 is probably a better prop for relatively lower kv motors, or any prop with higher than 4 inch pitch. Great build bro🙌
@@Frozone. Gemfan is weird with their prop names. 51433 is not a 4.33 pitch as the name suggest but 3.5 so compared to other manufacturers 5040 its actually lower pitch.
Nice build. Good to see a budget build video done as well as this one. I have the Emax motors and they work well for the money. Plenty of power for beginners and advanced pilots. Great content, thanks.

For the VTX, in your video it only has 4 wires to connect to the ESC, but when I ordered the exact same VTX mine came with 6 wires to connect. Any ideas?
Awesome video. Lost my quad to dead goggles and a pond so I did this build but used xing2 motors, happy model ep1 elrs, and race ranger 1600mw vtx. I wanted to see what kind of distance I could get from this thing. This was my first built from scratch quad so this was very helpful.
@@LuisMendez-ck6dv I haven't gone for a long range fly. All I have currently are 1500mah packs, so I'd run out of battery well before radio link, but I've done a mile with lq still at 100 and still plenty of db of signal left. Expresslrs is like the combustion engine during horse and buggy times. Ive switched all my quads over to it. Check out Wezley Varty's videos. He's tested range and has gotten way out there
That’s really cool could you tell me more about your setup? I want to be able to do some kinda long range stuff but I don’t have the budget for digital so I’m wondering how much it would cost to get 1-2 miles vtx range?
@@Carl_L there are tons of 1watt+ analog vtx's out there for not a lot of $$$. AKK race ranger $25. Says it will do 1600mw on some stuff, 1000mw (1watt) on other sites. I tested with an IRC power meter and its between 900mw-1watt. Race Day Quads has their brand 1watt vtx as cheap as $15. I've used both and was really happy with them both. Rush Tank Solo tested good too. It did 1.4watt on the high setting but is a little more $ at $50. I have that one in my 7" long range quad. Besides a couple of tiny whoops, thats the only analog quad I still have. Ive since switched over to walksnail. what a difference.
Yessir that’s the main reason I went with it. Once the V5 has been out for a while and there’s more available prints for it I’ll use it for a future budget build 👍
Thanks for the video, I was wondering being a drone noob if you can answer a few questions bro 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 1. Built like in video, what is avg flight time? 2. What happens when drone goes out of sight? Even if just behind a building for like 4 seconds? Immediately crash? 3. Can you make a video of a budget fpv drone that has a gps chip and can turn back home after loss of transmission and/or rc power and/or push return home button. Me as a total noob like the idea of no need to be scared to lose it 😅 4. Ah yes, this build. Max distance?
Just bought all the parts except frame and vtx, gonna build it whenever it comes back in stock!! -found them on a different website waiting for tomorrow for everything to be shipped
Thank you for this great video! Can you show your betaflight settings (rates, pids, ...) for this drone? I'm starting assembly on these motors and propellers.
Just ordered all the parts from your link, I’ll drop a comment if I really get stuck building it. Really placing a bet on your setup, I’ll keep you informed how it goes !
The transition from the DVR footage to GoPro was SICK! I built my fist one with similar components! What go pro and stabilization software did you use?
Definitely a great video bro, you should do giveaways... we know you can't build em for everyone but great work. Im new to the drone world but your tutorial makes me feel like a pro. I know understand the brains just gotta get my kit. Thank you
It is! I've been flying it pretty consistently for the last few days playing with the PIDs a bit. Thing is flying awesome and survived its first good crash 💀
OK, two weeks later... I have all the parts. My SpeedyBee order just sat there for 4 days after "expected ship date." I emailed, "Hey? Any idea on shipping?" and I had an email within a few hours. Suddenly, it showed shipped and had left SpeedyBee. It took 7 days, but I have it now. Well, I have all the parts for the drone itself. I still need to order the controller and goggles. In the interim, I bought a Technicans Ham Radio License manual to study for the Ham Radio test. I finished it last night, so going to test this week ideally.
Hey man! I really appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and helping the community! I have a question: would the source one v5 work with this build too? Once again, thank you!
It did! But the screws that came with the motors were a little too short (they still work, but wouldnt hurt to have 1 more mm or 2 in length)@@Pistolpressure
Hey troncat. Great video as always. What kind of range are you getting with the elrs reciever? I want to use it on a race build so I don't need much but seeing conflicting reviews.
Honestly i'm getting more range that I thought I would, i'm not sure if its because I have the receiver mounted out on the arm or what. I'll have to do a true range test but I haven't had it failsafe yet. Since the receivers are so cheap I plan on ordering a couple more lol.
Yeah i was wondering the same as we don’t know what radio transmitter he uses if he can give some options for us, flight time has to do with the battery you using this one probably is about 20 mins flight time
this is a great tut for beginners like me and really goes in depth on what to do with each part and im glad you didn't speed through the process making it confusing and hard to understand one more thing, im terrible with manual and was wondering if I could tune it for stabilized movement making it so it has a locked pitch and yaw making it so it can't go past a certain angle.
Looking into building an fpv drone and this guide is super easy to understand and well detailed. Two questions I have though are: a) how much does it weigh? And b) what goggles/controllers does this build support?
I do not have an answer for the first question but the build's VTX card supports all analog goggles and the radio receiver is compatible with all ELRS controllers.
I couldn’t wait but I literally just did a similar build this weekend… but I flashed (or tried to) the wrong firmware so now I have to learn how to negotiate this problem.
I’m planning on ordering all of these parts, and I just wanted to say thank you! This will be my 1st fpv drone and I’m really excited as to how easy it is to set up! Again, thx a ton!
Thank you! Also, how much of the build quality was sacrificed to keep the price down on this budget build? How much worse is this drone compared to the one In your 2022 5 inch freestyle build video, and is that one worth the increase in price? Sorry for all the questions. I appreciate you taking the time to go through your comments btw. Thank you!
I built this drone as my first entry into the scene and have had a nightmare getting bit set up 🤣 I am using the betafpv 2.4 ghz literadio 2 se in elrs and have not been able to bind the controller to the elrs receiver at all.
Hi, do you know how much can this drone lift? (i need to know cuz i have other action camera) Pls answer, I will be verry thankfull. Have a great day ;)
TronCat, thank you for the walk through. Failed the first build, so I will have to go back to the drawing board. Capacitor blew the first time I plugged it in. Think the flight controller may be lost. Oh well.
Recommend a drone for hiking? Long-range flight (1-2 km overflights of mountain cliffs). Preferably compact or collapsible. Assembly speed on site is not important and not critical. I go to water trips, I want to core, but DJi is expensive for me.
Amazing video! Great tutorial!! I have a question I hope you can answer. Have you ever seen the capacitor soldered to the end of the battery plug? I seen a video of it done. Just wanted to know if it was a good idea or not? It seems like it. It is always up and out of the way.
The main reason I went with the V3 was because it was available while others were out of stock, plus since it’s been out for a while there are tons of 3D prints for it. V5 look solid though, I’ll probably end up using it on a future budget build 🤙
I picked one up last month a the 5 volt pad for the vtx out put full battery voltage and yes I no there is a pad right next to the 5 volt pad that is supposed to out put full battery voltage I soldered it up correctly for a speedy bee tx800 and it smoked it I thought I got a bad vtx so I hooked up a nother new tx800 vtx and smoked it.
how would this build compare to a nazgul 5 v2. also how much of an upgrade would you say is switching the antenna that comes with the vtx for the one that you used.
I'm not sure about how it compares to the nazgul 5. The stock antenna is good if you think you'll crash alot, otherwise, I would spend an additional $10 or so to get a more solid antenna. You'll get better video signal.
As a newbie to FPV this is a great project and awesome video when it comes to controllers could I use my dji controller then get some of your recommended goggles? Or would it not work
You should use manual focus so we get a nice and sharp image when you build it and move your hands. It would be an easy but huge improvement of your videos
The parts list for that drone will be released with the video. I do this to give all my viewers a fair chance at ordering the parts 👍 Keep an eye on my community page, I will give you guys a heads up before that video gets posted!
Loved the video and your flying skills. Some questions though :) : 1 - can the frame be 3D printed? to save some cash there :P 2 - would a Spektrum DX6i be good to pilot such a drone? 3 - what goggles would be good for this (budget inclined but to offer good quality)? 4 - did you have issues with the FPV camera transmission? Cause in the video it seemed to be jerky and after a while you just gave up on the overlay...
I was wondering if it would be fine to build the whole setup without the camera or goggles? I’m looking to build something like this but with non-fpv applications
I have spektrum dx8 transmitter that I use with hellis. Are there any receivers (that are worth a damn) that will allow me to use my transmitter with the boards you have suggested or should I, as a newb to fpv, buy a new controller that's better suited for the fpv world .
Hey, is your remote Bluetooth or something because I don’t know where to get the remote that you’re using. Is it Bluetooth or does it come with one of the things that you listed in the description?
I have no idea what just happened but I love it, I'm dabbling in photography and would love to know of you'd build one of these for so I can learn and get the hang of it instead of just buying one and destroying it
Great video! I found this very intresting even though ive never flow a fpv drone, would you recommended building a drone for a begginer or just buy something like the betafpv centus pro?
If you’re just starting out and have never flown FPV before, I would recommend a kit like the Cetus pro or Cetus X. Then you can use the controller and goggles with future FPV drones. Plus when you crash the Cetus is pretty durable, whereas a freestyle drone like this will break easier. Once you’re comfortable with the Cetus, then move onto a drone like this 🤙

@@Frozone. Gemfan is weird with their prop names. 51433 is not a 4.33 pitch as the name suggest but 3.5 so compared to other manufacturers 5040 its actually lower pitch.
YES YES YES YES 2022 VERSION IVE BEEN WAITING MONTHS FOR THIS!!!!
Nice build. Good to see a budget build video done as well as this one. I have the Emax motors and they work well for the money. Plenty of power for beginners and advanced pilots. Great content, thanks.
Now I feel like I can say that I know how to build a drone and show-off! And this is the first time I'm watching something like this.
This is how easy this video made it look like to build a drone.😍
For the VTX, in your video it only has 4 wires to connect to the ESC, but when I ordered the exact same VTX mine came with 6 wires to connect. Any ideas?
I’ve been waiting so long for this!
7:20 I thought my cat was making noise lol
just watched the earlier budget build video, and I'm happy to see you got a soldering mat!
What distance you got?
Ive since switched over to walksnail. what a difference.
finaly a decent accurate and good build seen in a way that most new people can understand
good job
Glad you liked it!
Simple and easy to understand is the goal 🙌
The source one has a v5 frame. But v3 has been very durable as still a community fav with loads of prints out there.
Yessir that’s the main reason I went with it. Once the V5 has been out for a while and there’s more available prints for it I’ll use it for a future budget build 👍
I broke so many V5 arms that i went for Rotor Riot hdo1 with thicker arms
Thanks for the video, I was wondering being a drone noob if you can answer a few questions bro 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Me as a total noob like the idea of no need to be scared to lose it 😅
4. Ah yes, this build. Max distance?
Im gonna build this next month.... thanks for da video ;D
glad the video helped you!
And are you done?
Done ,?
How's the build?
@@sirar0123 I'm saving the money for now... and this year mostly I won't be free.... coz I'm in 10th now 😢
Just bought all the parts except frame and vtx, gonna build it whenever it comes back in stock!!
Really placing a bet on your setup, I’ll keep you informed how it goes !
how much you payed ? more then 200$?
@@goldfire4827 total was around 660$ with batteries, charger, goggles, and everything else
@@goldfire4827 the drone itself was 220
The transition from the DVR footage to GoPro was SICK!
I built my fist one with similar components!
What go pro and stabilization software did you use?
haha thanks!
For this I used a GP10, 4K 30, Superview, ND16 with locked shutter. Didn't use any stabilization for that flight footage 👍
@@TRONCATFPV That's great! Keep at it, bro.
@@TRONCATFPV thats so smooth
Definitely a great video bro, you should do giveaways... we know you can't build em for everyone but great work. Im new to the drone world but your tutorial makes me feel like a pro. I know understand the brains just gotta get my kit. Thank you
That looks a sweet build 👊🏼
I am pretty sure it will
Hey did the v5 work with it ❤❤
It did! But the screws that came with the motors were a little too short (they still work, but wouldnt hurt to have 1 more mm or 2 in length)@@Pistolpressure
11:00 you can get mounting putty,(same as Blu Tack) at Walmart for like $2. But, then again, no one leaves their home anymore.
@@TRONCATFPV Nice. Will try them out as well. No antennas to mount.....the dream :)
What is the flight time and range for this?
Yeah i was wondering the same as we don’t know what radio transmitter he uses if he can give some options for us, flight time has to do with the battery you using this one probably is about 20 mins flight time
@@cybercifer8221you can get like 7-10 minutes with this setup max
this is a great tut for beginners like me and really goes in depth on what to do with each part and im glad you didn't speed through the process making it confusing and hard to understand
one more thing, im terrible with manual and was wondering if I could tune it for stabilized movement making it so it has a locked pitch and yaw making it so it can't go past a certain angle.
He literally answers both those questions towards the end of the video
I couldn’t wait but I literally just did a similar build this weekend… but I flashed (or tried to) the wrong firmware so now I have to learn how to negotiate this problem.
@UC6Ii3VLChDZdt0jtrJA6KBw Sounds good! I sent you a message on IG.
Most of those 2 million views are from Ukraine... :-D
I'm starting to get interest in fpv, and my first fpv drone is this one!
how’s it looking?
@@percyy_ good
I’m planning on ordering all of these parts, and I just wanted to say thank you! This will be my 1st fpv drone and I’m really excited as to how easy it is to set up! Again, thx a ton!
Just finished my first drone folowing your instructions. Thanks my friend! Fun project!
Can I swap in a digital camera? Which camera would fit best on this drone for the DJI system?
Yup! To upgrade this to digital you would need something like a Caddx polar vista or runcam link wasp. Both should fit this drone 👍

Thank you!
I built this drone as my first entry into the scene and have had a nightmare getting bit set up 🤣
I am using the betafpv 2.4 ghz literadio 2 se in elrs and have not been able to bind the controller to the elrs receiver at all.
Hi, do you know how much can this drone lift? (i need to know cuz i have other action camera)
Pls answer, I will be verry thankfull. Have a great day ;)
This will be my first drone build, the video is super helpful. Thank you!!🤟
What kind of charger do you have for the batteries?
TronCat, thank you for the walk through. Failed the first build, so I will have to go back to the drawing board. Capacitor blew the first time I plugged it in. Think the flight controller may be lost. Oh well.
What goggles wluld you recommend to fly woth this??
This is super clear
How far can the drone fly away from the controller?
1.5 - 3km
Can I get links for the battery strap and gopro mount? (I'm using hero 10)
Recommend a drone for hiking?
Long-range flight (1-2 km overflights of mountain cliffs). Preferably compact or collapsible. Assembly speed on site is not important and not critical.
I go to water trips, I want to core, but DJi is expensive for me.
I will shoot on gopro.
dose the dji fpv controller 2 work on the parts listed
🙂
I think this is going to be my 1 fpv drone this video is much more detail ed than the 150 dollar one
Amazing video! Great tutorial!! I have a question I hope you can answer. Have you ever seen the capacitor soldered to the end of the battery plug? I seen a video of it done. Just wanted to know if it was a good idea or not? It seems like it. It is always up and out of the way.
Not saying the v3 isn’t a solid frame but there’s a V5. Just built one and it’s a solid frame with 6mm arms. Been taking me crashing it like a champ.
Brother, you don't need to use F/1.8 on a top-down only video :) Autofocus was a bit wild. Looking forward to getting some of these parts!
I’m new in R/c drones, I going to build one of your drones, can I use an spektrum DX6 or DX 9 to fly the drones?, I happen to have these radios
how would this build compare to a nazgul 5 v2. also how much of an upgrade would you say is switching the antenna that comes with the vtx for the one that you used.
I'm not sure about how it compares to the nazgul 5. The stock antenna is good if you think you'll crash alot, otherwise, I would spend an additional $10 or so to get a more solid antenna. You'll get better video signal.
What is the flight time on this setup??? Could you get some mid-range cinematic footage with this quad??? Your videos are so helpful thank you
you could definitely get some mid range cinematic footage using this setup. Flight time will depend on your flying style and what battery you use.
As a newbie to FPV this is a great project and awesome video when it comes to controllers could I use my dji controller then get some of your recommended goggles? Or would it not work
You should use manual focus so we get a nice and sharp image when you build it and move your hands. It would be an easy but huge improvement of your videos
Awesome video, thanks! Also that hawk chase at the end was so cool 😮😮😮
Right? I never saw the thing when I was flying but was pumped when my girlfriend showed me the video she had gotten of it lol
which remote control and glasses do you need to have for such a drone
I would reccomend the radiomaster boxer elrs version and the fatshark scout goggles
@@WesleyChevez
can all glasses connect
What board are you gonna use for your cinewhop build?
The parts list for that drone will be released with the video. I do this to give all my viewers a fair chance at ordering the parts 👍
Keep an eye on my community page, I will give you guys a heads up before that video gets posted!
@@TRONCATFPV do you have any recommendations on other good AIO boards?
Loved the video and your flying skills.
Some questions though :) :
1 - can the frame be 3D printed? to save some cash there :P
2 - would a Spektrum DX6i be good to pilot such a drone?
3 - what goggles would be good for this (budget inclined but to offer good quality)?
4 - did you have issues with the FPV camera transmission? Cause in the video it seemed to be jerky and after a while you just gave up on the overlay...
1. the frame hell no haha, i mean you can do whatever you want but if this breaks basically your full drone breaks
Excellent video, very informative and useful information. Have just subscribed to your channel and look forward to other informative videos
TCMMRC makes the ultimate budget builds! Under $100 fully built 5in
I've never heard of TCMMRC but will look into them. I think for under $100 on a 5" quality & durability would be very questionable lol
Quality is not the greatest. Troncat's build is budget with a fair bit of quality. You could call it more of a... quality for less money build.
I was wondering if it would be fine to build the whole setup without the camera or goggles? I’m looking to build something like this but with non-fpv applications
absolutely! You won't need the VTX either 👍
@@TRONCATFPV great thanks
What would be a good way of building a film drone something like the DJI maverick ?
I was kinda wondering if JumperRC T-Lite V2 2.4GHz- T-lite ELRS radio can be used on this build.
yup!
Hey really enjoy the video, but when I bought the source one V4 frame I didn't know that I needed a micro camera, not the mini you suggested.
Hello i just made that drone and for my school project and i want to thank u this is my first drone ever.
Can you use the tx16s transmitter with this? I have absolutely no idea about any of this so any advice or tips is greatly appreciated!
yup! You'll just need a compatible receiver 👍
@@TRONCATFPV Thank you!
@@TRONCATFPV what kind of receiver would I need to get?
I have spektrum dx8 transmitter that I use with hellis. Are there any receivers (that are worth a damn) that will allow me to use my transmitter with the boards you have suggested or should I, as a newb to fpv, buy a new controller that's better suited for the fpv world .
I had the same problem with the T-Motor stack with BF 4.3.1......Reflashed 4.3.0 and the problems went away
interesting, I have the issue with 4.3 and 4.3.1
Maybe I'll have to try one of the later release candidates.
Hey, is your remote Bluetooth or something because I don’t know where to get the remote that you’re using. Is it Bluetooth or does it come with one of the things that you listed in the description?
I have no idea what just happened but I love it, I'm dabbling in photography and would love to know of you'd build one of these for so I can learn and get the hang of it instead of just buying one and destroying it
Just get a DJI to take pics, 1/10 the learning curve of this.
Is the GoPro just for collecting video footage while you use the smaller camera to see where you’re flying?
Nailed it!
Can you use the v 4
Ordered my first couple parts today! First build. Lol. Oh yeahhh
are there any other higher mAh batteries that are 4s that you know off? currently the 750s dont cut out for me
Great vid quality compared to the $200-250 drones I’ve seen
Great video! I found this very intresting even though ive never flow a fpv drone, would you recommended building a drone for a begginer or just buy something like the betafpv centus pro?
If you’re just starting out and have never flown FPV before, I would recommend a kit like the Cetus pro or Cetus X. Then you can use the controller and goggles with future FPV drones.
Plus when you crash the Cetus is pretty durable, whereas a freestyle drone like this will break easier.
Once you’re comfortable with the Cetus, then move onto a drone like this 🤙
@@TRONCATFPV thanks a lot ill look into the Cetus, also appreciate replying as not many ytbers do
Awesome Video man, everything very easy to understand.
How beginner-friendly is this drone? Can you start and learn FPV-flying with this one?
