Because he owed them a fortune and instead of paying just prosecuted all of them. Templar’s had extensive banking systems because they transferred money for people pilgrimaging to jureselum so they wouldn’t get robbed . They ended up with a large and extremely wealthy early banking system , the French king couldn’t pay so he figured he’d take them out and seize whatever they had left
The manner in which the Grandmaster met his end is the ultimate condemnation of the king and all of his cronies who had a hand in the death of those virtuous and pious men.
It was an informative and wonderful historical coverage episode about Crusaders' wars and templers. Hospitals Knights ,templeror knight struggled for Jerusalem kingdom ( holy land ) preserve, and templer Knights trials ...thank you 🙏(Real Crusade history ) channel for sharing
Philip IV was deeply in debt to the Templars, who were major financiers of the French crown. He saw the dissolution of the order as a way to relieve his financial burdens by seizing their wealth and assets.
Great video! Good to listen to while working. Slightly off topic, what do you think about Harold Lamb and his book about the First Crusade? Is it any good? Or is it horribly innacurate?
J. Stephen Roberts, your work for informing people on matters of Crusades and Medieval lives of our Ancestors is glorious and good work in the Eyes of God! God bless you and yours. +][+

Philip IV was deeply in debt to the Templars, who were major financiers of the French crown. He saw the dissolution of the order as a way to relieve his financial burdens by seizing their wealth and assets.
And his greed led to his downfall and death (heart attack on a hunting trip) judgement from God for what he did to the knights

What game is used for the 3D scenes? They look awesome.
I watched the movie the "The fall of the Nights Templar" It was good movie.

Was this recent videos on the innocence of the Templars a response to anything in particular?
