They actually sounded pretty close to my ears. The Fullbore is maybe just a bit "flubby" on the low-end for lack of a better term. I actually don't think either are "bad", people just like exaggerating in comments. If you gave me one and told me to record or play a show it'd be usable, but there's other pedals I'd use over either of them.
My mxr Goes dead if one of the screws Is tightened too tight I assume it Makes contact somewhere inside so I just loosen the screws of it. I don't remember which one it is. I recommend giving that a shot.
The Chug doesn't sound like that at all, it seems like the Chug is a bad pedal in this video but it's not, I think you're using an IR that didn't help. If you try it using the effects loop from an amp or using the IR froma Ola, it would be a huge difference, you definitely need to do that.
Do you happen to know where I can get the IR from Ola? That being said, I still don't think it's a clever move to design a pedal that is highly dependant from the IR. Ideally you should be able to compensate even a "bad" IR to a specific amount.
@@DomeNightbearer You get an email with the IR when you purchase the pedal. I have tried this pedal in different modes like using an interface... fx loop, in front of a clean amp and it sounds amazing. Obviously you need to change the eq depending on the way you're using the pedal, that's like a basic rule. IR's make a huge difference in your sound, no matter what you're using. You should give this pedal another chance by trying a different method.
The Chug didn’t sound bad at all, in my opinion. It had natural-sounding, modern amp-characteristic distortion and EQ-curve. The Fullbore, on the other hand… still stuck in the 90s haha
Sorry Ola - doesn't say much for the much hyped Chug, many people seem to conclude 2 often loathed pedals - the MT2 and the MXR fullbore actually sound better
Respectfully disagree. As an owner of the Metalzone, and as someone who invested hours into attempting this, there is nothing one could do to make the Metalzone sound like a real amp. The dual-gain clipping is just way too harsh. Sure, you can play with the mids, and the pedal actually has a ton of low-end, which could be used to achieve some scooped 90s tones, but the second you engage the pedal, people will know that it’s a Metalzone you’re playing through. The Chug, on the other hand, was designed to emulate tube-amp distortion, which I think it does brilliantly. As was shown in the video, it has a very smooth EQ-curve, and the clipping is much smoother than the Fullbore. Different pedals, built for different purposes. I don’t think one is objectively better than the other.

This is awesome, the graphing work is something I've been wanting to see somebody do with gear. Thank you so much
I literally have the same defect with my Fullbore, guess it isn't an isolated issue
Try losing the screws, mine goes dead if they're too tight.

The Chug sounds a lot like an amp, whereas the Fullbore sounds like… a 90s distortion pedal haha
IMHO, MXR Fullbore Metal is a winner in this test, but Boss Metal Zone MT-2W is the best🤘
nice t-shirt, guy. Where can I find a You Dirty RAT kind of pedal with control over bass built into it?
Check out the Plague Bearer by Lone Wolf Audio

Can you play a bass guitar through the chugg id like to hear the what it sounds like with the low gain all the way down
It would be intriguing to hear how Chug would handle the chainsaw if we stacked an Hm-2 into the Chug pedal.
I actually did a video on this topic ;-)
