I'm an anti-theist, religion is ok"
The Religion Of Secular Humanism/Atheism ... The Humanist Manifestos declare:
According to the Humanist Manifestos I & II: Humanism is “a philosophical, religious, and moral point of view.” - Paul Kurtz, in the preface to Humanist Manifestos I & II (Buffalo, NY: Prometheus Books, 1973), p. 3.
“These affirmations [in the Manifestos] are not a final credo or dogma but an expression of a living and growing faith.” - Kurtz, Humanist Manifestos I & II, p. 24.
A good way to determine whether a worldview is a religion is to look for certain characteristics that religions have in common. The framework set forth by Ninian Smart (Smart, N., 1996. Dimensions of the sacred: an anatomy of the world’s beliefs. HarperCollins, London.), commonly known as the Seven Dimensions of Religion, is widely accepted by anthropologists and researchers of religion as broadly covering the various aspects of religion, without focusing on things unique to specific religions.
The seven dimensions proposed by Smart are narrative, experiential, social, ethical, doctrinal, ritual and material. Not every religion has every dimension, nor are they all equally important within an individual religion. Smart even argues that the ‘secularization’ of western society is actually a shift of focus from the doctrinal and ritual to the experiential.
“Evolution is promoted by its practitioners as more than mere science. Evolution is promulgated as an ideology, a secular religion-a full-fledged alternative to Christianity, with meaning and morality. I am an ardent evolutionist and an ex-Christian, but I must admit that in this one complaint-and Mr [sic] Gish is but one of many to make it-the literalists are absolutely right. Evolution is a religion. This was true of evolution in the beginning, and it is true of evolution still today.
“… Evolution therefore came into being as a kind of secular ideology, an explicit substitute for Christianity.” - Ruse, M., How evolution became a religion. National Post, pp. B1,B3,B7 May 13, 2000. [Michael Ruse was professor of philosophy and zoology at the University of Guelph, Canada].

In regards to the divine hiddenness discussion, I would say that not everyone would immediately bend the knee if God revealed himself in a more obvious way. DW brought up how Satan and Adam/Eve, despite being in the literal presence of God and likely conversing with him face to face, still mustered up the ability to rebel against God.
A few more examples include Abraham's wife Sarah laughing at the physical incarnation of God when He said she would have a son and then lying to Him denying that she laughed.
The prophet Jonah who ran away from God's command and even after his experience with the whale, the repentance of Nineveh, and the plant that provided him shade, he still argued with God and was angry with Him.
Also in Revelation when God reveals Himself to the whole world it says that all kinds of people (the wealthy, the powerful, the slave, the free) hid in caves and wished that the mountains would fall down on them to hide them from the face of God.
And the list goes on. Point is, for a lot of people, their lack of conviction for a belief in God is not the deciding factor and is not the only thing holding them back from fully embracing God and his commands. I can't speak for everyone, but in my opinion the question of "Does God exist?" is generally an irrelevant topic. Whether or not God hides himself it would not impact people's allegiances.
Instead, I think the question of "Can a good God exist?" or "Is God good?" is the more important one and the one most atheist/agnostics usually mean when they challenge theism. (Hence why the universal objection to God is 'If God really exists then how come _________?' and fill in the blank with moral problem of your choice)

To possibly answer y'alls question around why there was such a change with Biden from the debate to when he was speaking the next day, if the speaking engagement was earlier in the day then he likely suffers from "sundowners". A lot of patients Ive worked with over the years have had it as its fairly common for ppl with dementia, alzheimers & even some that have had traumatic brain injuries due to gun shot wounds, car wrecks, aneurysms etc. Its a very noticable decrease in overall functioning, increase in forgetfulness etc in the evening time on into the night then when they wake up in the morning they will have a higher level of functioning etc. It's very noticable when it kicks in which again is typically in the evening time around the time the sun is going down, hence it being known as "sundowners". Im not a doctor but Ive worked in a few positions in the medical/healthcare/allied science field for well over 20yrs & that is far more likely the situation than there being that much of a delay in any type of med/drug they would try to give someone. Even if they were to give him something like Adderall he could have had an adverse reaction to it hence the mouth gaping, nodding etc (and if the person does have dementia etc/is sundowning its not going to magically give them more clarity etc it would just make them more alert) & its onset window would have been long passed by the time he spoke the next day. Especially for someone of his age who would naturally have overall decreased organ function so would have a much lower absorption rate, decreased motility etc

"No worshippers of YHWH before Abraham" is a fallacy. According to Genesis there were many true worshipers before but Abraham was the one chosen through whom the earlier promised "seed" (or offspring) would be born through whom all nations will be blessed, and the Serpent will be crushed 🥾🐍
Seed is promised to Eve (Gen 3:15)
    Offspring narrowed to:
    Seth (Gen 4:16)
    Noah (Gen 6:18)
    Abraham (Gen 12:1,Gen 17:7)
    Isaac (Gen 17:19, Gen 17:21)
    Jacob (Gen 25:23)
    David (2 Samuel 7:12-16; Psalm 2)
    Jesus (Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2)
Gal 3:16 - Offspring is singular - Jesus
But hypothetically even if there were 0 true worshippers at the time of Abraham, still God's purpose was being accomplished through those people to bring the Salvation to all nations, as promised.
Those people are the ancestors of Abraham ➜Isaac➜Israel➜...➜Jesus; and also their enemies, and God is glorified even in his enemies, so it really makes no sense to say "It was meaningless" from the Christian perspective, even if hypothetically 0 true worshippers existed at that time.

That is a good reminder that people like to unintentionally strawman the opposition when they reach conclusions.
His point was that he does not belief in God because most people belief what their culture says. From that he builds up the argument that in Christianity and Islam, God sends everybody to hell who is not a believer. Which means the free will of the people is not the significant factor of what brings us to heaven. That is immoral and therefor he doesn't belief in that God.
What are the problems of that argument:
      1. He got that entire chain of argument from the secular German atheism. So based on his own logic, he didn't reason to it but instead just came to it because of where he grew up.
      2. Even in the Bible there are non-Christians who are saved. I'm not sure about Islam, but there I find it confusing what causes someone to be saved. So this argument is a strawman.
      3. Both Christianity and Islam have versions where free will is not really that relevant in the first place and God is the major or sometimes even the exclusive deterministic factor. So that can't be brought up against those two religions as a whole.
      4. To the best of my knowledge, Atheists can't be defenders of objective morals. If he says it is immoral according to the Christian or Muslim world view then he first has to show in which way it is immoral.
      5. Let's assume he successfully argued that this God can't be moral and therefor there is an unsolvable internal contradiction in those theologies. Just because those two specific interpretations of Christianity and Islam are faulty doesn't mean Atheism is the logical alternative. He didn't actually bring any logical argument for why he doesn't belief in God. Perhaps he brought the emotional argument why he doesn't belief in God, but if that is the case he shouldn't say he came to it through reason.
Or in short he build an argument on strawman premises, just claimed that they should reach that conclusion without showing it and then ends up with the same opinion as the culture in which he grew up in.
If we want to build our world view on logic we should be careful to not strawman the opposition, even if they are Muslims or Flat earthers or whatever.

I wanted to be an atheist not because I'm bad person. I'm person of strict values(never did drugs, nor smoke tobacco, never been drunk), but I was born nonstraight. The only reasons why I often felt bad in church is hypocricy and evil of another members and homophobia. I couldn't tolerate harming others for no reason. Despite I wanted to be an atheist I couldn't be because of my logic. I have such strange experiences in my life that I'm sure that God is. I had many problems with believe in good God. My problem was that I identified Almighty with miserable wicked people. He is pure Love, Wisdom and Good. Still I'm upset on hypocrites without values and bigots, but I started to believe in God so much. I'm opponent of protestant fanatics, islamists, militant unreasonable atheists, new cultists. I support wise people who differ wrong from right. In my opinion it is possible when someone open on Holy Spirit. I'm roman catholic myself and defend my faith, despite many so called 'catholics' attack people born nonstraight.😢

I think that the reason majority of people in Muslim countries are born muslim, remain muslim, and will die muslim, is because there’s no room for doubting, questioning, or what’s even worse, no challenging or refuting, and if anybody dares to question, he or she can be considered an apostate, which carries a death sentence.
As far as I’m concerned, countries like Pakistan, live in the Middle Ages where the Catholic Church used to control , religion, science, and politics, and the inquisition was implemented to control, intimidate, and eliminate detractors.

I completely understand an skeptic mind and not blindly believing anything someone else says just because they make it sound good, however after many years of going over these things with a sober mind and an open heart, when I hear someone asking why not more clear miracles so that more people would believe (because even still ALL would) people would believe, my thought goes to:
    - Adam saw himself as the first man ever created, the woman created from him and for him, in a perfect Eden talking to God directly, and still sinned.
    - Moses and the Hebrews saw the most amazing things before and after leaving Egypt, and even way after already in Israel through the prophets, they still sinned and went to other "gods".
    - People with Jesus saw countless miracles from him and his disciples, fulfilled prophecies and they would still ask for more signs and many still didn't believe. Peter himself saw the transfiguration of Jesus and still denied him.
    - Jesus died and resurrected, appeared to hundreds who spread the word and kept performing miracles - I would say the most debated subject in history (correct me if I'm wrong), and still many didn't believe.
    - There are still many supernatural things happening today but now we say it is all made-up, fake, a trick or are still asking "why not more miracles, why not on camera, why not something I can see and be sure is not really fake?
... my take is we should not ignore reason at all nor avoid any kind of research, we need to be open to the possibility and look at the evidence with an open mind to the supernatural being that the subject itself is based on it.
Either way, I love these conversations and have learned a lot from these channels. 😸

APs makes a lot of claims in that video based on his personal experience whilst simultaneously saying people only believe in the religions they were born into due to emotional reasons and personal experiences. Thats one heck of a biased claim based on his lived experience. He assumes that all people think the same way. Or pick and choose religion in the same way. Or that they dont have the tendency to actually research their religion. I left atheism after years because of the cosmological and evidential arguments for God, the historicity of Jesus, the historical reliability of the New Testament, biblical archealogy, then when I considered that the 300+ fufilled prophecies of the Old Testament through Jesus fully convinced me. That plus experience after with The Holy Spirit but that was after the logical reasoning lead me to a point where I could be open to it.

      Arguments for God:
      1. Necessity
Whatever exists that does not have to exist requires an explanation.
The physical universe does not have to exist.
Therefore, the universe requires an explanation.
The explanation for the universe is, by definition, God.
      Therefore, God exists.
This is a better version of:
Premise 1: Whatever begins to exist has a cause.
Premise 2: The universe began to exist.
Conclusion: Therefore, the universe has a cause.
There are a few main objections:
The first is that there is an infinite regression. However, an infinite amount of contingent beings cannot account for the existence of one contingent being. Any more than an infinite amount of boxcars explains why a train is moving. You would then have to explain why the regression is there in the first place. Does it explain itself? The answer is no.
The second is that there is no such thing as nothingness. Basically, that the universe existing is a brute fact. Now, I could retort that God existing is a brute fact. But besides that, by saying the universe is a brute fact, you would be saying that brute facts exist, so anything could be a brute fact.
      For example,
      1. Socrates is a man
      2. Men are mortal
      3. Socrates is mortal
Premise 3 might just be a brute fact that has nothing to do with premises 1 and 2. Meaning that you would have to devolve into extreme skepticism, which is neither practical, nor probable. You would essentially have to distrust all logic, which I don’t see why I would. Considering that logic always seems to be right, when properly applied.
The third objection is that there is another necessary being besides God. For example, the universe. However, I can imagine the universe not existing. It does not explain itself. A critic could retort “I can imagine God not existing”. However, something you can imagine isn’t necessarily true. For example, I could imagine an unsolved math equation to be true, but it is either necessarily true or false. A Definition of God is: “That which no greater can be conceived.” Therefore, God cannot not exist, or He would be lesser. God exists by Definition, or explains Himself by Definition. The universe does not. For example, fire must be hot, but it doesn’t have to be blue. Likewise, God must exist. In fact, God would be the most fundamental level of existence that holds everything else in existence. God is essentially: ipsum esse subsistens, or His essence is Exitsence. So, God is existence, or Esse. I Am What I Am. Likewise, some use matter and energy/movement. However, they don’t explain themselves. Could you imagine a different form of fundamental matter making yo the universe? If so, it is not necessary. God again, cannot be different by definition.
A fourth objection is denying things such as great and greater. I don’t understand this much, but J would just argue that existence doesn’t make sense without this definition being true, and therefore it must be true.

I agree with Woody that.... the existence of God is a separate question to the justice of God and that it doesn't help to combine them.
I agree with AP that... the (NICENIC) doctrine of Divine Judgement is messed up. Of particular concern is the conflation of punishment with judgement. Here's some reasons not to automatically conflate what Scripture says about each. Do the judges of a talent quest punish contestants? - no. To be 'righteous' must parents must punish their every child for every sin? - no. The problem in Christian soteriology occurred after the Church was institutionalised / secularised / after the Council of Nicaea. So, AP, first decide that God exists - only then sort out other things about God, including judgement.
There's only one great evidence that proves God exists - Nature. Nature is both fantastic, mysterious, complex and awe-inspiriting. It also can't be self-creating (would go completely against the First Law of Thermodynamics - the conservation of energy + matter) and it can't be eternal (the Second Law of Thermodynamics implies the universe would already have died a 'heat-death' if it was eternally old). Therefore... God! (Rom 1:20)

2:52:36 The issue with this line of argument is that it assumes that mere intellectual assent is all that is required for heaven.
    Read James 2.
AP is performing an internal critique of Christianity. But he isn’t taking the full philosophy of Christianity. Even the demons recognize THAT God is true, but they do not put their faith in Him.
Clear and obvious proof could even be considered to remove the ability for genuine faith.
Also, when AP is performing an internal critique, a lot of his complaints can be “well wouldn’t this be better?” Two things
    1) He is neglecting the fact that God’s values may differ from his.
    2) God knows what would happen in all possible worlds. (Matt. 11:21). Under the Christian worldview, the physical world is substantiated through His mind. If His mind substantiates reality, there is no reason to assume that ours is the only reality (yeah… like a Christian multiverse).
If this is true, our world doesn’t have to be the best possible world. Just one where the good barely outweighs the bad. (God substantiates all worlds where Good is better than bad, no matter if by a lot or barely at all)

AP claims that the evidence for Christianity is not clear because many people disagree with Christianity, and because if you gave these people the evidence for Christianity, most people would continue rejecting Christianity.
But AP also claims that most people believe what they believe for sociological and psychological reasons.
    He is clearly contradicting himself.
If it is true that most people's beliefs are formed for sociological and psychological reasons, then we would not expect most people to change their beliefs when confronted with evidence they are wrong, since their beliefs are not arrived at through evidential reasons, they are arrived at through sociological and psychological reasons.
Hence, if people's beliefs about God are primarily formed through sociological and psychological reasons, then we would not expect most people to change their mind when confronted with evidence they are wrong. We would expect most people to continue believing what they do in spite of good evidence they are wrong.
As such, AP's claim that the evidence for Christianity is not clear based on the fact that people continue in their beliefs in spite of evidence for Christianity is demonstrably false, by his own standards.
The fact that people reject good evidence for Christianity is a problem with the people, not with the evidence.
This is what David was repeatedly trying to explain to him.

@@hooligan9794 "Most people forming their beliefs for psychological reasons in no way even suggests that most people would not respond to evidence." - Yes it does, because it reveals that most people do not care enough about the truth to take the time to investigate things seriously. And if most people do not care about the truth very much, then they aren't going to be compelled by evidence very much. They will be compelled by non-evidential reasons in a far greater way.
This is, again, what David was trying to explain to AP. The sociological pressure of conforming to your groups beliefs will be a far greater influence on most people than a sound evidential case for the truth of a different position, for example.
"It would be downright odd if evidence played no part in what people believe." - I never said evidence plays no part in what people believe.
"People routinely change their mind based on evidence." - But what people consider to be "good evidence" varies based on their sociological and psychological influences. You can show two people exactly the same evidence, once person will say it is virtual proof, and the other will say it is no evidence at all.
AP was claiming that something can only be considered clear evidence if most people agree that it is. And that is obviously false, for the reasons I have listed.

You are very like by Christians with the work you do on Fighting the cult of Islam that is no good for everyone world beliefs in peace with what Islam believes in. If God was not real I would be an Atheist as only truth matters. Im not interested in believing in lies even if it’s good for human kind of a good peaceful religion ? To me I see that life is not a fluke it so clearly intelligent design the next question is does any religion have it right? To me Christianity ✝️ has the Historical Evidence to prove that. Many that eyewitness where prepared to go to there deaths in what they saw. People will go to there deaths in believing what ever but not if they are the source of a lie. But the real belief comes when you turn to belief in pray 🙏 in Jesus that’s then things start to happen that you see it can only come from God in your life. But thats takes a choice of putting faith in the belief before that can happen. When you find that God of the Bible is real you understand how important Salvation is to all people. I will never believe things of life is a fluke as is put out in mainstream. Only Truth Matters and there’s different views on what is truth but if you never have tried to put faith in Jesus then you will never know ? It takes asking in good will to be shown and if shown? And Putting faith in Jesus for that. Randy Kay has a good channel of people who believe there had near death accounts of Heaven and Hell. Also Daley dose of Wisdom is another good channel talks of Christian Evidence. I enjoyed Standing For Truth Channel of Debate as well as Modern day debate that you have been on. I like it when a debate happens of people with backgrounds of areas of debate on different sides of the views that are in that area of work. And not just a Joe blow view that has no background ground in science of the debate. Every thing needs to be able to be tested to proved by the test not just take a word for it.

But all believing Christians live in a world where we know such a God is constantly watching us. So is it better that we Christian’s DONT know that about God? Obviously not. I can promise I go about my daily life knowing that God is always watching me yet I still fall into sin. I don’t see David’s logic there. When you're contemplating your place in the universe... and you're considering more than your own ego and perspective...
you're talking about dimensions that are beyond your understanding.
There is an order to things that keeps the universe balanced.
So, when you're talking about these phenomena which are so much bigger than yourself that you can only relate to them through yourself as a point of reference...
you're realizing that you don't have the words to define anything except how it all relates to you.
So you ask the questions... what is "I"? What is "God"? What is "belief". It's all relative.
If you only began to exist after so many other things have existed, then the universe doesn't relate to you as much as you are just a momentary part of it.
The big bang doesn't relate to you then.
You're using language and ideas that relate to you... trying to explain something that is unrelatable to you because it's outside of your own experience.
That's why Jordan Peterson is reverse engineering his words.
Now, I find the man insufferable.
I can imagine him watching a movie having to deconstruct every aspect of the film, using the world "proclivity" several times always enunciating the "t" to make the word sound more like clit somehow. Anyway, I guess you have to take the bad with the good.

@1:26:29 Not all religions are based on 'belief'. Correct action is much more typical, and it seems Islam is actually more like that. But in the case of Christianity, 'belief' is better translated 'trust'. The formula used by the apostles is 'publically confess Jesus is Lord and believe Jesus rose from the dead', where Jesus' resurrection is considered as divine vindication of his message, and his appointment as Lord over everything, including judgement and resurrection. There are very few actual ritual observances in Christianity. No one is born a Christian; anyone who just drifts by as a Christian is a 'cultural Christian', not one according to the bible.

I think it is tragic to base your personal eternal destination on statistics about how likely someone is to be a certain religion based on where they were raised. I understand the argument, but this claim takes zero account of an adult’s ability to question, think, or research just like AP did. Perhaps for children this argument stands better, but I believe God takes children’s situations into special consideration.
Also, AP’s materialism leads him to blame genetics, location, and other physical factors for everyone’s choices while his own testimony stands in contrast to that. The people coming to Christ today in non-Christian majority countries, or hostile-to-Christianity-countries, are also a problem for the idea that environment is the greatest dictator of religious belief. Because he doesn’t believe in God, there is no room to account for people turning to Christ in underground churches, under death sentences, etc.
As Winger has pointed out, people often say, “I need evidence,” when they mean, “I need proof.” Sure, there are some things we can know empirically, but we’re still depending on so many factors beyond the material to know these things.
There is a ton of evidence for Christianity; I think AP holds up an unfair standard of perfection for Christianity and doesn’t hold that same standard up for materialism or skepticism. He’s taking what he thinks is a safe position because he was broken by his belief in Islam. I hope he will one day see that the God who made him gave him that ability to reason, as he does with others. Whether he ever becomes a Christian or not, I hope he can be honest with himself that his real reasons are personal and emotional, not logical and based on a deep review of the evidence. It’s good to have both; it’s always good to recognize that one does.

4:21:33 AP, it is very easy to change your belief. Just go to a country where they belief in Buddhism and you turn Buddhist. Go to a country where they are Christian and you turn Christian. That's how your argument goes, right?
I'm joking here, but I still think there is something to it. If you actually lay out your entire chain of reasoning with all the premises and then you also do so with another view, then you are more clearly able to see why you think the way you do and why the other view is the way it is. If you now then surround yourself with that other view then it is possible to open up to it and over time your views may change as well. I don't think that works 100%, but I do think there is something to that.
Also if you want to you can do the opposite. You can hide the premises of your view and claim they are just the facts. And then you lay open the premises of the view you oppose. And then you show how your view is just the logical conclusion while the others builds on mere assumptions. That is a very neat way to convince a lot of people and it is regularely being done by all sorts of people who call themselves rational.

@@rossini55 "In the beginning" implies that Time itself is a Creation. God tells us many times that He is "Beginning and the End" (Isaiah 44:6, Revelation 1:8, 22:12). If He exists outside of Time, Space, and Matter (whatever that would mean) He is not subject to our puny imaginations of what the "God" should be. I get that you may not believe the Bible but understand that the God we refer to is NOT some wimpy Cosmic Sky Daddy.

1:00:00 the issue raised here is relived with the following. Orthodox Christianity believes that the lack of acceptance of God, wether by Atheism or another religion boils down to a sickness of the soul and not mental capabilities. People of all ranges of IQ become orthodox/stay orthodox. Different levels of argumentation are convincing using the mind, heart, and soul. So it is not an issue of intelligence. As for people who simply do not think to accept a new religion, such as buddhists or Hindus etc, there are two angles to look at. Firstly Christianity has been spread throughout the world. As such, there is no excuse not to explore it. Secondly however, there is no blame on the one who based on whatever circumstances, cannot come to the right conclusion, for any number of reasonable reasons (including tribes who have never heard of Christianity due to isolation). There is a saying “to whom much is given much is required/expected”. And for the issue of “good reasons” for each religion doesn’t work. There is an element of cognitive dissonance (a spiritual problem) with those who don’t leave their morally bankrupt and oppressive religion. Then there are contradictions that must be addressed from religions who claim to continue another, the foundation and basis of morality for atheism (among other things), as well as evidence of truth that other religions lack.

I don't care if AP converts to a religion. It's his own choice. And no one has to decide for him whether he believes in something or not. Is it really that important whether someone is a theist or atheist? We're all polarized enough as it is. Let's not look at our differences but see what unites us.

Because it is about AP's soul. We Christians love AP and pray for him to know the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Jesus doesn't force people to believe in him. He gives people free will to make the decision to follow him for themselves.

1:08:58 Its about arguments and experiments. Usually you start with a hypothesis, then thing about an argument that you use to measure the consequences of your hypothesis, and then if the experiments are convincing then you have a theory that still can be falsified.
How can the existence of god as a hypothesis be falsified?

David made a very stupid statement about the convincing arguments of flat earthers (flatening the contrast to arguments for god) because his own arguments for god would come down to similiar unproven claims (I believe, I prefer). Very weak.

No, he is attacking AP's logic. AP's claim is basically 'multiculturalism, therefore I can't believe in God. ' This is bog standard. The proper conclusion is: just because everyone around me believes X, doesn't mean it's true. It also doesn't mean it's false. Duh.
