    Lowkey is a force of nature just like Akala. This song along with part 2 and 'Ahmed' are a must watch that make so angry that these songs have to be made still today. I watched Lowkey's Ahmed shortly after watching The Levellers - Shame, both songs very different but both are heartbreaking and have lived with me since I watched them. Good work Rod.

    I think the fact that no charges, no reprecussions, nothing come of this and these people were essentially murdered thanks to shit building code due to the materials allowed to be used and approved by the council (which more than 1 member was tied to the builder) and they all got away with it scot free. Just so infuriating and heartbreaking even from the other side of the ocean.

    This is the only song that unless my channel were to get deleted will never get taken off of it. The power, emotion, story of this I think is a lot like Dave's performance of Black at the BBC awards, it should be heard, should almost be required listening.

      I feel you there homie, and you have been talking Lowkey for a good amount of time. Starting this channel, he was definitely one of teh early ones I wanted to add, and knowing about this song made it the first I wanted to hear as well. Required listening should be required for sure!

    Lowkey lives in this neighberhood and was an eyewitness to this horrible tragedy. I think that's why the song is so heartfelt. Great reaction as always! Edit: I think all the people in the video are from the neighberhood as well and some even lived in the building. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

    Many of these people were never recovered,any families had no bodies to bury. The inquiry is still ongoing, a complete white wash and nobody charged or arrested. It was and still is utterly heartbreaking for the families and local residents......the tower has now been covered but it's a mass grave looming over the community.

    • @RodJReacts

      Yes, and such a sad tragedy on all taht has happened around this event. We recently saw something similar to this in a collapse that took place here in Florida and it has been already quietly pushed out of the news when there are still so many questions to be answered, and investigations that need to happen.

    • @lizbeighton2662
      @lizbeighton2662 2 роки тому +1

      Exactly - hence the end when they asking the council where they are as they haven't been recorded as dead as they didn't recover their bodies and weren't listed as living in the flats - they were under the radar, friends, family members etc. Its so incredibly sad and watching it on the news still haunts me

  • @lizbeighton2662
    @lizbeighton2662 2 роки тому +2

    The council cut costs and clad the building with what they knew was flammable materials just to make it more visually attractive to the wealthy residents who could see it. Many many flaws with safety of windows, doors, not enough sprinklers or alarms. The fire spread from floor 4 to the whole building in about 20 minutes. Justice has still not been given to the people!

    • @RodJReacts
      @RodJReacts  2 роки тому

      Wow, such a tragic event that could have been minimized if not avoided it seems if all had been constructed properly. So many lives lost and affected by this, and there will never be full justice because those lost can’t be brought back. 😪

      Peter, yeah, I felt like these were definitely some of the people affected but didn't know for sure. @@RodJReacts answer is the government got cheep cladding on the outside of the building and there was an enquiry into how safe it was it literally said what is it going to take to prove the cladding is dangerous and they replied with mass deaths and that's what happened but none of the government has been charged with anything even though they knew it wasn't safe

The more I think we put in our mind then the more we can relate to items that we come across; my biggest regret nowadays is not reading enough still.

    Possibly the bleakest example of the class divide in the UK - a rich neighborhood ask for a nearby tower block to made more presentable to preserve their property prices. The authorities don't care about poor so they use flammable materials, install them badly. 😢😢

      Such a sad situation but can't say I'm surprised. Here in the states, we see situations arise with these types of things as well with shoddy materials being used especially for lower income areas. Some places around the states even struggle with having basic things such as drinking water. Goes back to the C.R.E.A.M., cash rules everything around me.

But music has always been a love and passion of mine, so it's great being able to have fun here and digging these artists that are so much more than many of the studio artists that get pushed out. They bring me back to the humble beginnings which make it that more fun, and also great to have you on board from Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. I had so much of a fun time being at WVU when I went to school and the saying is true, Once a Mountaineer Always a Mountaineer. I hope to get back in the fall even for some WVU games and visit.

      @@RodJReacts WV is an awesome place great place to live ... Outside the precarity of course lol. My best friends went to WVU, & even though I went to Bethany College to play ball - I ended up spending a ton of time in Morgantown in the offseason. Almost transferred bc I enjoyed it so much.
      As far as the music, I was actually going to do something like this. I've seen soo many people react to artists like Lowkey, Akala, RA the Rugged Man, Vinnie Paz, & Immortal Technique because they have a basic idea that the things they're saying are touching on fundamental truths, but I haven't really seen too many that add the context of history &/or who's writings are being referenced. It wasn't until I really started reading that I realized Vinnie Paz rapped Howard Zinn's "People's history of US" through 4 songs/21 mins or so, or that bars from Lowkey come directly from the writings of Rosa Luxemburg, Edward Said, & Franz Fanon. Akala quoting Dessalines, Malcolm, & Chairman Fred w/multisyllabic rhyming, great delivery, & energy. These guys are geniuses & I'm glad someone out there is sharing the deeper contexts to these works of art.
      I really enjoy your reactions, so keep doing your thing bro!

      @RodJReacts  3 роки тому +1

      Denzel, I hear you there and think that as well. From what I had gathered about the situation it was that 70 number that was the so-called confirmed at the time., which were probably the bodies recovered if I had to make a guess. With the event that took place in Florida here and the collapse that took place here, this is what pretty much happened as well and I believe more were lost than what we have been told too.

      @@RodJReactsMany of the people in the building were undocumented workers so the crooked landlords didn't want the authorities to know this. There were many more deaths than those reported. It was a disgraceful cover up & no one has been held to account 8 years on.

      Iam, yeah, I think it can depend too on where you live here in the states as there are some diverse areas, but a majority are segregated by choice or lack of opportunity. Some just aren't able to get out of their areas and some just don't feel as safe not being around what they consider their own. It's pretty sad when you think about it.
