- I had a 1982 Honda Goldwing that was parked for 2 years. Pull in the clutch lever, shift it into gear and it learches forward and stalls. Clutch is stuck. In this video I gets it unstuck.

I've been having the same issue with a VFR that's been parked up for 2 years. I tried a couple of methods suggested to me, but neither did the trick, so I was resigned to pulling out the plates. I then decided to have one more look to see if there were any other suggestions........and this is where you came in. After around 5 attempts it freed it up, so thank you so much for this video, it saved me a couple of hours work 👍👍👍
I love hearing these stories 😀 and glad it worked out. I did a lot of hair pulling to figure it out myself. My next project is a 2000 VFR800 that I am looking forward to. I mean, V4!!!

Check the oil, warm up the engine, clamp the clutch lever to the grip, come back tomorrow. Do it again if it's not freed up.
Is that only for hydrolic clutches or will it also work with a cable clutch.
I know of a similar trick with hydrolic brakes.
Exactly where I'm at and the video I needed to see I've looked at so many videos and searched but nothing and seeing this gave me so much confidence in everything so far I've done and what I need to do to free up the rest of the clutch and pressure plates pack on mine.... I'm so stoked right now I'm finishing my coffee and will be first test ride down the road my this afternoon.... Thanks man! Woooo😎🤙🏻
Enjoy the ride 🛵
Great thought on how to unstick a clutch that's been sitting a long while. My bike is having the same issue. Can't wait to try your method.
Bro, you saved my bike from new clutch plates, therefore you saved my wallet. Thank you for your advice
Thanks for the follow-up on your project. I have the same problem right now and can't wait to fix it. Your videos have always been an excellent to make decisions on my project.
Fantastic! Best of luck with your clutch
Thanks so much it worked first time. And I was about to take the clutch apart 😂
Glad it worked!
Just did this on my tuned 1989 gsx-r 1100 and it worked. Thx for this hack! 😁 👍
1989 gsxr - classic !👍 Glad to hear you're keeping that on the road
@@HooptieDoodle Thank you. After I bought a gpz900r a gsx-r 1100 was the next step, I like "old" bikes, so. Bought it 2012 (took me almost 2 years to find what I wanted), sold it 2021, bought it back a month ago. 😂 Also got a mint Xj 750 seca 1982!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This helpt me with my xt660 ❤🙏
So basically run the bike in gear for a while until the clutch frees up?
I’ve got this exact same problem with my ‘86 Kawaski Elimator. Had the same problem last summer too, but managed to rock her back and forth a few times till she cleared. This time I’m struggling. Any suggestions for what to do if I don’t have a hoist?
Probably too late now, but a rear axle stand does the same job.
Put a reusable zip tie on the engaged clutch lever overnight instead .. works better then possible basket damage
Hope that works m8 just put one on: cheers.👍
Thanks! I will try this on my 1988 Honda VFR 750
now how do i get the results without a hoist
This almost fixed my problem, I was hoping you might have some advice for me. I did everything in this video but it does not stall with the clutch in, accelerating, and stomping the brakes. Yet in any gear with the clutch in, it still moves forward. When I accelerate with the clutch in, the forward movement stops and I'm able to rock backwards. I've tried adjusting the cable tighter and looser than it should be, no dice. I've also adjusted the cable to spec, still moves forward in gear with the clutch in. It's also near impossible to put it in neutral with the bike on. If I turn it off, it goes into neutral easily. Sorry for the essay, just trying to give you as much info as I have. Thank you!
It sounds like you have a stuck clutch - except for your sentence "When I accelerate with the clutch in, the forward movement stops.." - this I do not understand. The bike both moves and stops moving with the clutch in?
@@HooptieDoodle Correct. I'm going to try changing the clutch cable. I feel like I've done everything else at this point but open up the clutch and check plates and basket.
same issue, bike has been rebuilt over 2 years and engine left untouched. now clutch says nothing even when i get good pressure to slave cylinder.
Have a gixxer k1 been sitting for over 15years was fine on paddock been going through gears on it just moved it changed the oil and clutch wont fully disengage: can see the edge plate moving through cap hole.
Im trying it on my CBR600 f4i im hoping it works 😬 this gave me hope
you got a new sub
Yeah!😀 Welcome 👍
I don't know much about motorcycles, but what is that green glass bottle with a line for? And your videos are great!
It's a Jagermeister bottle being used as an overflow tank for the radiator. Not standard equipment 😀
Are you holding the clutch while revving the bike up?
Yes. I am holding in the clutch lever while simultaneously reving the engine and then pressing the rear brake.
i wanna try this on my bike but is it damaging at all? my clutch is stuck from storage
There are worse ways to free a clutch. My father wanted me to hold a rope while he towed me down the road with the truck. I didn't like that idea 😀
@@HooptieDoodle that would work but go into second
Thanks for the tip 👍
Could a person put some kind of solution in the oil that would work to free the frozen parts? Or maybe even drain oil and add some kind of fluid like Liquid Wrench just to get things freed up?
There are probably products marketed for that, however I am not aware of what they would be...
Hello sir, did the bike gave you the same problem after this fix? I have the same problem on my honda cb125 1981, yesterday on the first test ride after 20 years the clutch was great, today is completely stuck, I would like to know if i will have this problem all the times
I don't know. The full story is that this bike was stored for two years, the clutch got stuck, I unstuck it, rode it a few times, then sold the bike. I wouldn't anticipate it getting stuck again as long as it's ridden regularly. Maybe there is something else going on? The clutch cable may need adjustment, there may be warping in the clutch plates or damage to the clutch basket. Good luck 🍀
@@HooptieDoodle thanks for the answer sir. It's so weird, on Tuesday it worked like charm, I was so happy restoration finished, then brought it in garage. This morning I turned it up, and there is the problem. Nothing changed since Tuesday!
I'm thinking that some of the old oil was stuck on the clutch disks and after using it the first time, the waste warmed up and then, after cooling down, it stuck the disks...
I am quite literally new to the motorcycle scene, what brand is this if I may ask? 🔥
It's a 1982 Honda Goldwing ua-cam.com/video/aUAsJKB8YFU/v-deo.html
I had the exactly same thing happening and then bled it at the banjo bolt, and now it goes in gear, but the rear wheel doesn’t move at all. Any idea what I should do? Should I try this?
I am uncertain what you are describing. The brakes have a bango bolt, not the clutch (at least on my gl1100). Check out this video on rear brake drag and see if it makes more sense: ua-cam.com/video/y6yZVy7vkGo/v-deo.html
@@HooptieDoodle ahhh okay, it looked kind of like a modded gl1200 to me so I didn't quite know. The clutch for my gl1200a has a full hydraulic clutch with a master, banjo bolt, and all that jazz.
@@DaRealPianist that makes more sense 👍. I have more questions though 😀: so you had to bleed off hydraulic fluid (&pressure) in order to get the bike to go in gear - is this after riding? Was the fluid warm (like it would be from riding)?
Now that it is in gear the rear wheel is locked? Like, no movement no matter what? In theory you should be able to rotate the rear wheel with it in gear and you would also be rotating the engine, which with compression would be much more difficult, but doable.
@@HooptieDoodle It is very difficult to move it by hand haha. This is not after riding, though. It hasn't been ridden for years and the old master cylinder was cracked so I have a brand new OEM one, but bleeding everything has been terrible. Now it actually can shift without me even pulling in the clutch, and there is no power to the rear wheel. This is while the bike is adequately heated up. I am utterly lost if I'm being honest haha
@@DaRealPianist it almost sounds to me that there are multiple issues. You replaced the clutch master cylinder and bled the clutch system and now the clutch acts like it is disengaged from the engine even when you aren't applying the clutch lever? This sounds like there is another issue with either the clutch hose, or slave cylinder that is preventing fluid from returning to the clutch reservoir. The rear wheel not moving would seem to be a separate issue and might be brakes. You could try removing the rear caliper and see if that makes a difference. Good luck!
1:25 that wear on the wheel. oof
Are you in neutral doing? Or is it in first gear?
Secure bike, raise rear tire off ground, start engine, put in first gear, increase engine rpms, apply rear brake. That's what I did.
I tried this but my rear brakes are bad. Would replacing the whole clutch solve this problem? I will be replacing the rear brake line too.
@@joehtwe3418 sounds like you've got a bit of a restoration going and it might be wise to replace the clutch regardless - which would most definitely unstick it.
Let me know if you want to sell!
I do! 😀
I'm in NY right now at my dad's place trying to sell it. There's someone coming over this afternoon to look at it
