QUICK FIX for Motorcycle Clutch Stuck on Yamaha XT250

  • My Yamaha XT250 sits more often than it should - and the clutch has been getting stuck. Pulling in the clutch does not allow for shifting, or putting the motorcycle in gear. The bike stalls out as soon as you kick the gear shift down - even with the clutch lever pulled in. There is a fix for this that is quick and easy to do at home (with proper protective gear). In this video, I demonstrate how I get the clutch freed in our 2015 Yamaha dual sport. #dualsport #xt250 #motorcycle #purplecollarlife
Step 1: Put on the appropriate protective gear (helmet, gloves, etc.)
Step 2: Get the motorcycle to a downhill grade, somewhere safe with lots of space and no traffic. I find a yard works best.
Step 3: Start the motorcycle in Neutral, with the clutch pulled in
Step 4: While seated on the seat, push the bike forward and let it start coasting downhill
Step 5: Move the gear selector into first or second gear. Make sure the bike keeps running and does not stall out.
Step 6: Once you have some speed and momentum, make sure the clutch is pulled in and press down fast and hard on the rear brake. Note: The bike will come skidding to a halt abruptly - maintain your balance and stay safe.
Step 7: Repeat this process until the clutch starts working properly.
Step 8: If this process does not work for you - contact your local motorcycle repair shop.

Very similar to starting an engine with a manual transmission. (If the starter is bad or the battery is dead) Or freeing a stuck engine with a manual transmission. Very informative! Thanks for sharing, Chad! Great to see Olive so active again! 🙂

Olive definitely was having a good day! We're glad she's being so active. Granted - afterwards she was able to just relax in the house and sleep for quite a while. :)

Busy watching this because my XT500 is doing the same however I rode the bike yesterday in the bush and possibly messed up the clutch

That happens because you have burned your cluch. You need to change clutch disk (only disk nothing more) and you don't have that problem anymore. If you don't burn it again. If you get smoke out from your clutch it will be stuck again regularly.

That's an interesting thought. I wouldn't think the clutch would be burnt at under 1000 miles. But I suppose with trail riding- it could be possible.

Same here mine is a 2024 with 25 miles on it. Sat for a few months freezes up all the time. Not happy at all brand pos new bike.
Never happened with my Harleys that sat for 6-12 months.

My 2024 POS does it with 25 miles on it.
So every time you wanna ride you have to do that. Not acceptable.

That's interesting Chad. In nearly thirty years of riding I've never had that happen. Maybe it's just a dirt bike thing?

    • @PurpleCollarLife
      @PurpleCollarLife  Рік тому +2

I've never had it happen with any other motorcycle. I think it's really just a sitting around thing. There are probably stretches of multiple months where I don't even start and move the bike. With previous bikes, I rode them more often. I'm also curious if it has to do with HOW the bike sits. Previous bikes I've had have always had a center stand, holding it straight upright. I'm wondering if since this bike only has a kickstand and is always leaning one way, maybe that has something to do with it. Thanks for watching!

Ride on the road to do that🤪 Tearing up grass solved momma bear 😊

Rather than ruining the grass which seems to make the wife rather unhappy, one can lift the motorcycle on the stand so that the rear wheel can turn freely, and do the same.

Interesting idea. I wasn't sure that it would work without the ground force pushing the tire/wheel/drive system.

get a new clutch for it

It only has 900 miles. That clutch should last for thousands of miles.
