    Just like you don’t remember being born you are not going to remember when you die. So instead of being anxious of death I live life to the fullest & let my family members know of my wishes.

    I’m 61 and just stopped working fulltime for per diem work ( in health care ) as I babysit my first grandchild . I love your advice and have started on some of it already especially getting healthy , exploring my spirituality and religious practices , saying No and spending my energy on what I want to do . After dedicating the past 8 years to helping my aging parents who have now passed along with my developmentally disabled sister , I need a break ! It’s ok to put me first while I spread love and show compassion to others . Be well lovely you !

    Priceless! Hard to do for women in their 60s. I love your content - I found you during estrangement from my son - when he married - he and his wife cut all contact - 2 years later he was in ICU with multiple organ failure - alcoholism/addiction - we had one hour with him already intubated eyes taped closed and unconscious - I know he knew we were there - he passed the next day - 10 months ago. You’re videos have been so helpful in many ways - I blamed myself for everything - people that know me and knew him kept saying not to but as his mother - you know? I made a decision last week to take a break from all my friends - I’m usually sociable - being alone is lovely for now. Good food - exercise - healing meditation. You have created a wonderful sisterhood ❤thank you Margaret.

    My profession was teaching around the world. I maintained a condo in the US but most of my friends had moved on. My retirement made me realize I needed to find my tribe in the area where I now lived. My hobby of quilting brought me to a nearby church where they have a quilting ministry. Three years later I joined the church proper. Many other volunteer projects follwed as well as a strong feeling of purpose. Meanwhile, I also teach part time in a poor area of town. Life has been full. I discovered gal pals (which I never really had in my younger days) as well as a market for some of my quilted items. I no longer have much of a social life outside of church and I miss traveling, but overall, life is good and I am thankful to be healthy.

    You just confirmed what I was thinking just recently, that at this late stage of my life it makes sense to prepare for the next stage,
    whatever it may be. Yet, how to prepare for the unknown? I think meditation is an obvious path to take. Perhaps it's time to unload from
    all worldly matters and remain peaceful... emptied out, so a new inspiration may arise from within.

    I love your channel, Margaret. So real. Lots of food for thought today. On the point about staying social, I am in a new city, having moved to be near adult children. I imagine others are in similar situation. Making new friends is a challenge. I have made efforts, and a few connections, but it all feels like a struggle now. I do keep up with old friends to a degree, but I’d appreciate ideas for making new friends at this age. I’ll be 72 next month.

      We have written a lot of articles on this topic. Just check out the website and search for making friends after 50. I think getting involved in the community, volunteering mentoring community centers just doing the things that you love that’s how you meet the people that have like-minded interest, go to bookstores, go to knitting groups, Sports groups, meditation groups, whatever you love

    Good list. I work 20 hours as a supporeorole now in what was my career I was a lead in. It’s great. Have Dad at 88 so 1 1/2 days a week with him and doc appts and do his finances. Wrestle with wanting a man friend. I don’t want to live with anyone or get married again. Need a dessert man for travel partner, wandering the back roads. I don’t want a full time job taking care of a man.

    Margaret, you are spot on! I retired at the age of 60 a few years ago. At the same time, my husband and I became empty nesters after raising four daughters, and we moved from CA to Washington State! 3 big transitions within a year time. All the elements you mentioned have either been my focus since these changes into my next chapter, or ones I would like to develop. You have a way of helping me make this ambiguous chapter more concrete and therefore adding clarity to the uncertainty. This is invaluable! Thank you!!!

      Hi Catherine. I’ve been posting videos every day on Instagram and also TikTok and a couple on UA-cam. What I normally do is upload short videos every day to those channels and then at the end of the trip I sent pictures of all the different destinations we visited on UA-cam, uploading videos to UA-cam while on high seas is hard. Much easier on the other channels that explains it :-) I’m totally fine.

    Thank you so much. I’m retired at 62, married 42 years, and even though I’m very thankful for my husband, I have been completely lost. It’s not what I thought it would be at all. I’ve put my focus completely on taking care of other people and mundane housework. This really inspired me to try harder and to put myself first. I knew I should change things, but just hadn’t figured out how. I focus only on “bad” things…. grown son who was/is my whole world but doesn’t have much at all to do with us anymore, losing both parents after being caregiver for 15 years, regrets are always in my mind, sadness, loneliness, wondering who I even am, and the list goes on. I am truly going to try and change to put myself first, say no, get out and find some friends which I really need, and try to live life. Where I am now is definitely not what I thought my life would be like at this point. It’s a daily extreme struggle. I suffer from nearly crippling anxiety which really makes it hard, but thanks to your words I’m going to try my best. I really needed to hear this.

    • @doloresaquines1529
      @doloresaquines1529 3 місяці тому

      Melissa. There is much truth in the saying that you need to love yourself first in order to healthily love other people. Perhaps the anxiety you mention had much to do with the place where you now are. Only a suggestion, but It could help to seek help for the anxiety, which is shackling you. I wish you well.

    • @melissasprayberry5047
      @melissasprayberry5047 3 місяці тому

      @@doloresaquines1529 Thank you for your comment. I have gone regularly since I was 22 for therapy and I take medication for it. It seems to have gotten worse as I went through menopause and never let up. I’ve always taken care of everyone else and I love with all my heart. I’m going to try my best to change and live life even though the anxiety never leaves. I’m a pretty extreme case. I appreciate you acknowledging me and for your advice. Hopefully someday it will ease up. It’s ruined most of my life. Thank you again.

    I had lunch last fall with a former work colleague that is several years older than I, in her mid-80's. I had not seen or visited with her in a while. As I admired her eye glasses after a hug before we sat down, she said in a playful, sassy manner "I'm old enough to do what I want!" That stuck with me since I've been retired for four years now. But in reality, in addition to self-care reflected in my friend's declaration, all the things you list are so very important in this chapter of life. I want to prioritize tasks that will make our passing easier for our daughter and not saddle her with unanswered questions, a lot of excess belongings, and undetermined arrangements. It's tough enough to lose your parents, let alone deal with those things, so indeed it is time to get those tasks done, have the conversation, and check that off the list, and live life to the fullest. As always, thank you for a very helpful and thoughtful video, Margaret.
